I traveled from Melbourne to Tokyo to be at the two performances where this was filmed on the 28th and 29th of January and I can tell you that being there for this performance was absolutely spectacular. This was the opening song of the show, and it is also the opening song of the album, so it is intended to be atmospheric to set the mood for the rest of the album. During the show, they immediately went from the end of this song, straight into Divine Attack, which also follows it on the album, and is a much more high energy track. While this song may be have been a bit more slow paced, the rest of the show was not; it was wall to wall high energy songs for the full 90 mins with only Monochrome as a less frenetic interlude (in which we got all the feels when Su hummed the melody and got us to pull out our phones and turn on the lights). You're not the first people to comment on the change in sound from Babymetal, and lament that they don't sound like they used to, but I think that for Babymetal, probably more than most other bands, evolution was both inevitable and necessary. Although we all love the kawaii metal they did as kids, it's just not feasible for them to continue to do that cutesy style all the time when they are now grown women in their mid 20's. The very fact that they have physically matured, must, by necessity also mean that they must change artistically as well. Being adults now, Su and Moa are in a position to exert creative influence over the direction of the band, and we have seen that to some extent already, with Su being credited as vocal writer on Divine Attack, which is a first for her. In recent years, both Su and Moa have spoken in interviews about their desire to 'present a mature form of Babymetal' which speaks to an awareness and desire on their part not to stay the same as they have been before, and if you watch interviews with them, you will find that they are not people who seem very interested in dwelling on the past and are far more focused on moving forward rather than looking back. Babymetal has, from its inception, always been a band that is highly experimental and always trying new things, and so this latest experiment in creating a concept album with a grander more cinematic kind of sound is just another evolution on their part. Babymetal fans often say that the band defies any conventional definitions, and Babymetal themselves reject any categorical definition for themselves other than 'Babymetal'. They are Babymetal and they are unique, and that's all you can really expect from them; if you go in with any preconceptions about what they are going to, they will defy them and show you something else you didn't even know you wanted.
After an absence of two years and five months, the girls returned to the concert. The concert started with this song. They sang loudly and the audience became one. It was so much fun😁. No need to smile as the Queen encouraged the soldiers who were going off to win their freedom. 😁. The next song of the day was a fiercely choreographed three-person romp into "Divin Attack"!😊😊😁
Good reaction ... from Alaska at least🦊😉'Metal Kingdom' serves a couple of specific purposes as it is the opening track from and intro to their 4th album which will be released on 24th March. Of course they used it for the huge, theatrical opening number for the concerts they played at Makuhari Messe just over two weeks ago and this was filmed at those - as the video was released less than a week after filming they have used the studio audio .... but it is still epic.🤘🦊🤘We will have to wait for the DVD for the live audio. I'm sure some of those fortunate enough to have been at the shows will explain how much more spectacular the actual intro followed by this song and performance were than we can tell from the video ... and how this just isn't one of the songs where they will have the energetic choreo and charging round ... they put on a whole show, there are other songs for that sort of performance and they make sure there is some variety and contrast from one song to the next.
Nice reaction. It is unfortunate that you find this boring. However, I am thoroughly enjoying the video and music. At 25 and 23 respectively, SU-METAL and MOAMETAL have now matured, prompting musical and performance changes. I am eager to witness the full concert after having viewed this video. I am also really interested in BABYMETAL's continually evolving genre.
Thanks for this reaction. Because of the pandemic I've not recently been to a Babymetal concert, but it was always great to see kids at these shows, for example 8 years old with industrial ear protection on the shoulders of a parent. I think it's the opener of a show/album, that is for a concept album, my guess is it works best in context: being at the show and knowing how it all fits together.
They have evolved and changed over the years. That's the thing that keeps them interesting, never exactly the same, always something new from them . All the people at the show i have heard from said this was epic. Can you imagine joining in that chant the stage, which is made of video screens in the middle of the walkway rising up, and that song was followed by Divine Attack then some new songs and old favourite . Little bit more involved than walking around waving a stick in this show . 🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
I didn’t read the comments yet, but I have to give a shout out to your daughter and your educating her. PS- As an overweight American male in his early 60’s, no one, I mean no one wants to see me in their outfits. However, having attended this concert and seeing all the beautiful cosplay, I’m in for a little more Lady Beard, (or whatever his name is). This is a fun group and their fan base is outstanding. Enjoy life; it’s too short.
I'm happy to see all the comments sticking up for them not sounding like they did as younger girls when they first started. As has been said, they've grown up, so it's only natural for the music to do the same. And with the more open sound, I immediately realized it was just an opener song. I'm pretty positive the rest of the album will not be only this. As for Alaska watching the Karate video over & over, I feel that. It's my favorite song by them to this day.
Welcome back to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐 Now this is kawaii metal reaction UwU🤘 Is always nice to see old BM fans and reactors coming back to hear more of them, this time returning with a more mature sound and a new BM side we've never seen before. This is why BabyMetal have no match among any other Japanese artists, top notch worldwide. You're not the only one finding Game Of Thrones resemblance on this stage setup, it looks insane. The ten prophets are holding crosiers with "The Other One" logo which is similar to the infinite symbol "OO" and is the title of upcoming 4th album. The girls are carrying some kind of trident similar to the Spear Of Destiny, if you know MoaMetal you know you got be careful with her. 🔱 This is the opener of the live show and first track of the upcoming new album. Here's some official info about this song: METAL KINGDOM (THRONE) _It is a powerful anthem ushering in the beginning of a new era while also representing the power and courage to step forward into uncharted territory. The track conveys imagery of one rising powerfully from the throne of silence, with a suitable fanfare announcing this new beginning._ At the end of January at Makuhari Messe they held two great live shows returning to the stage after almost two years. and by far they meet up my expectations with this epic live performance and top notch production. SuMetal and MoaMetal showing why they're a queen and princess deserving their thrones. The cinematic drone shots are just insane. We were expecting this live proshot version but we'll have to wait next month for live sound. We got so many big news and announcements, a new official member is coming (most likely Momoko Okazaki, the one who has been performing with them all these years and latest live concerts) next live shows in April 1 (Fox Day) when returning once again with another headlining shows at PIA ARENA MM Yokohama. Also they performed with a new BM mirror unit coming from another world of this metalverse, so we're guessing maybe some of the older kawaii metal songs they don't play anymore will be back with this new unit, so stay tuned for more but like always OTFGK. You can find the official lyrics pinned in the comments but here's the lyrics translated for you in my next reply. Thanks for sharing this and don't forget to put your kitsune up!🦊🤘👑

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 This video is from Makuhari shows on Jan.28 /29. I witnessed both shows at the venue. You saw one octagonal movable / elevatable stage but actually there were two identical stages for more surprising production. Several drones with camera were flying around all over the venue. Once this opening song by Su and Moa got started, I had goosebumps all over my body. The show was held after the almost 2-year long hiatus after all. Seriously many of audience were moved to tears and/or dropped their jaws when the gigantic fox wall opened and the thrones came out. Yeah! I chanted all through the song. ♪ Oh oh oh o o o ♪. What a happy experience!! The Kami band was playing on the east stage that was not captured in this video. After this grave opening, 3 girls performed 12 songs (including playful songs) with Momoko Avenger. Did you see 3 (not 2) thrones at 04:10 in your video? Yeah, BM will change. The official 3rd girl is going to be unveiled in the next shows in Yokohama on April 1/2. Yes, at last ✌ ps. I luckily managed to get tickets to the shows in April. 😍
Nice reaction. This song gives off a deep feeling, majestic and strong charisma, reminds me of "Within Temptation - The Reckoning and Supernova", Babymetal is the best Japanese band, it's on another level and Su voice are amazing, long live Babymetal long live Queen Su...
I like this one for what it is - the first song on a concept album and the theatrical opener to their first concert in years. Not every song (by any band) will appeal to everyone, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. 😊While I do like their crazier stuff, I also like the rest as it shows how they've changed with their ages. By now they're 25 and 23 and I'm sure if they were still bouncing around in tutus people would holler for them to dress age appropriately.
This song should be compared to In the Name Of. It is an opening ceremony song and is extremely similar to In the Name Of (which is very boring musically but is all about the spectacle of the performance).
I have been a huge BABYMETAL for years now, and I‘m sitting somewhere in between Johnny and Nathan on this. I do miss the more playful facets of their music (and appearance), and I‘m not very fond of them drifting towards „standard“ Metal. Having said that, new BABYMETAL is still the next best thing after old BABYMETAL, and there is still a lot that ensures that they remain unique. This is the opener of the album and also the opener of the show. So it seems like it’s going for the epic impact rather than the relentless energy. I haven’t been at their recent shows, but I‘m confident that the audience got their fair share of the latter over the course of the program. I wouldn‘t agree that there is not much development during the song, though. But I actually did think like that after the first listen as well. The frequent use of the chanting part may attribute to that. But the more I listen to the song, the more I notice that it‘s constantly developing. That part about 2/3 in has a great impact, in my opinion, the rhythm and vocals have a pretty inspiring effect, like a call to arms.
hey sleeveless guy, it is exactly what you said that makes them keep changing, thank you, they are not kids anymore, and we have plenty of video evidence how awesome of kids they were, but now they are awesome ladies. You are insulting them and us who still love them, they are way better now. btw Alaska-Metal is cool kid
And, Marty, we haven't seen what the next song they played looks like live. I'm betting it develops the theme from the opening track, and as Divine Attack is a heavier song, I think it will pair fantastically with Metal Kingdom. Also, I bet that 'sleeveless guy' (that's funny) isn't aware that this is the intro of a concept album, and this is going to set the scene for the theme going through it. However, to be fair, I think sleeveless guy is entitled to his opinion. He wasn't rude, obnoxious, or disrespectful. He might come to appreciate the song after another listen or two, but if he doesn't, that's fine, he might just have to wait for Babymetal's next album.
This is an important point. Just because music doesn’t hit one person the same as another, it doesn’t mean the opinion is disrespectful. Music is a personal relationship and to assume everyone should feel the same about every song actually cheapens the art.
I swear a couple years ago someone, I think it was Su, said something to the affect of, when fans start defining Babymetal, saying Babymetal is this or should be this, that is when we know it's time to evolve into something else. That's an extremely rough translation of a vague memory so I could be full of crap. Either way, I don't get the feeling this is a band that wants to be put into a box. That is a big part of their charm imo.
In typical BABYMETAL fashion, they give us something we don't expect. I really like this song as a show/album opener, I think it creates an epic atmosphere with its use of space, chanting and Su's vocals, and then we go straight into divine attack cant wait to hear the rest of the album.
I get what Nath said.. its missing the "babymetal vibe".. but somehow i really enjoyed the song. Maybe its the Chord progression.. thats what stood out for me.
Every single time I hear them I can't stop seeing anime characters flying around fighting each other in my head. Apparently that's just unavoidable for me.
As we now know, it was the end of an Era. The last Su and Moa concentrated songs. The last times the old Kami Band performed. And efore the start of a new Babymetal, that finally replaced Yui, we t zo South America and dared european and UK Arena Tours.
THESE ARE GROWN WOMEN ! I THINK THEY'RE TIRED OF BEING BABYS ! IT'S STILL A GREAT NAME ! BUT THEY DEFINITELY WANT A GROWN UP SOUND ! AND THEY CERTAINLY DESERVE IT !
for the METAL KINGDOM genre in my opinion is metal country. seen from the stage and the beautiful, loud, high and shrill su-metal vocals. This vocal style is often used in Japanese and Chinese theatrical performances. do you understand now why the stage, vocals, lyrics, instrumen and attributes are like that.
This comment section is wild, and how crazy some fans can be sometimes is beyond me. A song isn't going to resonate the same with everyone, so just respect eachothers opinions on it. Great reaction as always, and it was fun to see your daughter on the channel too!
Your daughter seems adorable and yeah I agree about the lack of contrasts and highlights in this song. However as I'm writing this a year after this reaction I would recommend-for your own edification-viewing their 2023 performance at the PIA Arena of this song. There's just something about that performance that again infuses this song with what many of us look to Babymetal for-link follows: th-cam.com/video/xd-lswJ2e3k/w-d-xo.html
Omg! Pls bring back Alaska! She is the most adorable heavy rocker ever 🤟🏻🖤🩷 love you guys. Husband discovered you guys through your Electric Callboy reactions, and I've followed him, falling down the rabbit hole of your channel. Keep up the epic work!
Haha truth is we just thought it was a beautiful name. But the older she gets, the more her likeness to Alaska the state is apparent. Beautiful to look at, but don’t underestimate how cold and harsh it can be 🤣
I think this song is what it is pretended to be. The intro of the album, a song that says "This is gonna be diferent". It's not my fauvorite, but an awesome song that i think it wold be better live, that just in video.
there are some important things for those of you who have reaction content before reacting to other country's songs. For example, this Japanese baby metal band they like to mix several musical genres in every instrument and song. including: 1. understand the lyrics, if necessary, interpret them one by one because that will answer your complaint why the vocals are like that, why is the title like that, why are the instruments like that, why are the costumes like that and why the stage like that. 2. Don't look at them from a band name and title. because they made their band name and title there must be a story. that's all more or less thank you if anyone wants to add please. greeting ijime dame zettai ( no more bullying )
@@nathandjohnny I'm just giving a suggestion. because you give advice to them then I give advice to you. because you and I are the same listen audience.
I'm with Nathan. Fans who liked Yui or Kami Band would have left, and many would be sick of their management, gimmicky musicality, and over-the-top presentation. It's like watching a theatrical performance, including the way she sings.
Its a live concert! over the top presentation is selling the live concert, making it a must see live show. That is why every concert for babymetal is by lottery because so many people want to go to see them. Fans who liked Yui? I dont even understand what that means...they like her but not the others? Seems really weird but whatever. Kami Band are still doing their thing, they were at this concert that was shown in the video, just the audio isnt live. They are older now, they dont want to do teenager stuff, if you want to live in that world, then go elsewhere and jump off this bandwagon boy!

This is an important point. Just because music doesn’t hit one person the same as another, it doesn’t mean the opinion is disrespectful. Music is a personal relationship and to assume everyone should feel the same about every song actually cheapens the art.

Awww Alaska is adorable ☺️.
🥰
Good reaction.
Okay, that's your opinion... mine is that Metallica died before the guy in the Metallica shirt was born. Well, that's more a fact. 😁
🤘🦊
Sounds more like an opening track to an album rather than a single, interesting stuff
right on both counts
So cute! My heart
I get what Nath said.. its missing the "babymetal vibe".. but somehow i really enjoyed the song. Maybe its the Chord progression.. thats what stood out for me.
So cute daughter, subscribed haha 🤟🦊🤟
Thank you 🤗
Every single time I hear them I can't stop seeing anime characters flying around fighting each other in my head.
Alaska is so adorable! Mini rocker/metal head learning the guitar already ☺
Gotta raise them right!
Luckily you can keep watching old videos of them Mr nailpolish...☺
Should check out Ankor - Prisoner or any song by Infected Rain off of Ecdysis
Alaska looks like her daddy!
The poor thing
have you seen the new bm mv light + darkness?
We will! Thanks for hanging
This should be in eurovison they would have won
starting with babymetal..... i still cant play smoke on the water properly
Hahahaha!
Johnny, what's the story behind your daughter being named after our 50th state? Was she conceived while mommy and daddy were vacationing there?
49th 😊
@@britbanana8412 my apologies to both Alaska & Hawaii (the states).
what sort of question is that?
Haha truth is we just thought it was a beautiful name. But the older she gets, the more her likeness to Alaska the state is apparent. Beautiful to look at, but don’t underestimate how cold and harsh it can be 🤣
I think this song is what it is pretended to be. The intro of the album, a song that says "This is gonna be diferent".
It's not my fauvorite, but an awesome song that i think it wold be better live, that just in video.
there are some important things for those of you who have reaction content before reacting to other country's songs. For example, this Japanese baby metal band they like to mix several musical genres in every instrument and song.
including:
1. understand the lyrics, if necessary, interpret them one by one because that will answer your complaint why the vocals are like that, why is the title like that, why are the instruments like that, why are the costumes like that and why the stage like that.
2. Don't look at them from a band name and title. because they made their band name and title there must be a story.
that's all more or less thank you if anyone wants to add please.
greeting ijime dame zettai ( no more bullying )
Or… just let people watch, listen to and enjoy music the way they want, because it’s THEIR experience, not yours.

I'm just giving a suggestion. because you give advice to them then I give advice to you. because you and I are the same listen audience.
I'm with Nathan here, it was a bit boring, not bad. Let Alaska replace Johnny 100% 😂 Wholesome stuff guys 🙏

I agree with Nathan, I found the song (and video) quote boring.
