    Albert my brother, Quad, new radio, Interstellar, Leaf, tennis. How much more cool can you pack in a video? I don't even have a complete quad yet. I almost ordered a build just like your Martian ii build, but have chosen a little different parts here and there. Between you Joshua Bardwell, and Darke Peake, I feel like I have a great start on the whats and hows. Thanks! PS I tend to watch your videos at 1.5-2x speed and the piano piece sounds amazing at 1.5.

    What's the difference between sbus and ibus?? Please answer

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SBUS and iBUS are both serial UART protocols... One major difference is that SBUS is an inverted signal while iBUS is not. Otherwise fairly similar and both are much faster than PPM.

    Can not get an arm switch to show in beta flight, not sure what I’m doing wrong I followed along with your video, but still won’t arm, everything else works pid, all other settings are good, but won’t light up an arm switch in modes on beta flight, I think it might be a mapping issue but I’ve tried to rename channels, still know luck.
    Any friendly advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for all the great videos.

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not that complicated. As explained in the video, you set a channel to a switch and it should show up in Betaflight configurator. If that isn't working for you, I don't know what the problem would be unless I had all the equipment in front of me to diagnose it.

    Price is a bit high for a joypad style Flysky compatible transmitter , range is more important to me, ill see if i can grab a review sample as its not worth throwing money at something that falters.

    i came from your other video; i use mission planner for my pixhawk autopilot. so this will not be good for me or does it have nothing to do that.

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, I don't know anything about how to setup pixhawk, sorry. If you watched the other video, just setup one of the channels on any of the switches and you have to configure that channel for arming in the pixhawk. I just don't know how to do that for that FC.

  • @MARLEYMATRIX
    @MARLEYMATRIX 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was a good video. Could you make a video on how to install this RX to your FC. I currently have s spektum radio that I'm get rid of for this new evolution it would be very helpful to have step by step video. Thanks for your help

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are hundreds of different FC's out there. So you would need to know where your connection to a UART is on your particular board. All you have to do is connect the signal (SBUS) pin to the RX of that UART port. Then connect 5V and GND anywhere on your FC, the source of the power doesn't matter.

      @AlbertKimTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you asking which is the best receiver for the Shuriken 250? It already comes with the XSR receiver built-in... are you asking what Flysky receiver to replace it with?

  • @lahawtho
    @lahawtho 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Albert, Great video! Considering switching from Taranis to Evolution.
    Should I get the FS-A8S to solder inside my QX90 F3 Board or should I just get the Banggood iRange 6CH Flysky Receiver? pros/cons?
    Also, isn't having no trim buttons make flying a complete pain? Say I'm flying my QX90 inside with horizon/auto level mode and it's drifting. I would think trimming on the touch screen while controlling sticks would be disastrous or almost impossible. Currently I have to trim almost every time I fly the QX90. The no trim buttons seems terrible, can you correct my thinking on why it's not?

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the iRangeX Flysky receiver is the one I tested earlier and had failsafe crashes, I would not get that one. If there's another one out there, then I have no experience with it so can't say if it's good or not. I have about 10 of the A8S receivers and so far all are working OK for me. However, be aware some people are having issues with that receiver so there might be some bugs to be worked out. YMMV.
      I don't use the trim buttons on my Taranis and don't need them. Most people probably should not use them in my opinion. It's fine for airplanes but not useful for multirotors with a flight controller. I recommend trimming the flight controller using Cleanflight stick commands instead. Search google for this, you'll see a lot of tutorials on it. This is the only way I will trim and also set level point on the accelerometer and the gyro. Once you do this, you'll find the quad won't drift anymore. Using these proper techniques the trim buttons have no purpose for multirotors and I for one am glad they are getting rid of that kind of airplane stuff that's not needed for multirotors.

    • @lahawtho
      @lahawtho 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One more question on the trims. Do you think the sub-trim feature could allow the evolution to be used as a decent fixed wing flyer? Assuming you can take 1 or two flights to dial in sub-trims and then have a straight flying craft. Is it naive to think this is possible?

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Luke Hawthorne Possible but not recommended as this would be very tedious. Also if the trims change later you will need to retrim again

    thanks for the video. I have question. I followed your steps for setting up failsafe but it doesn't seem to work. when I turn off the tx the motors continue to spin. is there something else that's not covered in your video?
    thanks again!

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @BryanPoteet67

      Albert Kim
      I found the problem. I'm using an f303 XRacer v2.1 flight controller running BetaFlight 3.01 and to fix the issue I had to use sbus instead of ibus. Strange but now failsafe works!!
      thanks again for all you efforts!
      cheers

    Hi
    Could you please advise, Have changed back and forth from sbus to ibus and output from ppm to pwm ,still cant get the stick movement on betaflight all the switches respond. What am i missing. Thanks

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, could be so many things. I don't even know where to start. Perhaps the most likely case is that you are connecting the signal from the receiver to an inverted pad on the FC. You might want to try a different UART and pad that will be uninverted.

    • @madforit9661
      @madforit9661 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlbertKimTV I will let you know, its strange as I say , all switches work , and you can see movement on the tx when the sticks move, the slides on channels move but not on \Betaflight

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's some more information needed here. What kind of flight controller? What kind of receiver? Did you check that it is actually bound? Did you try IBUS instead of SBUS? Usually IBUS works better. Is your flight controller configured properly for serial receivers and you have the correct protocol selected?

    What do u mean by inverted signal? Is sbus generally better than ibus

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are basically the same type of signal, just SBUS is inverted... inverted means that in a normal signal like iBUS, when the signal is low, SBUS is high (the opposite or inverted). That's the best way I can explain it. Beyond that, it's technical stuff I don't know about or care to know about. You would use one or the other depending on what equipment you had and that would determine what is "best" or most appropriate to use. For FlySky receivers I recommend using iBUS since it's the native protocol on that receiver. You can also use it on flight controllers that don't support inverting the signal on UART like the old Naze32 F1 boards. The newer F3 board support signal inversion in hardware.

    • @jackadactyl5590
      @jackadactyl5590 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Albert Kim so say I use a kakute f3 flight controller with the turnigy evolution then ibus should be fine? Also if I fly with other people that are using sbus, will ibus interfere with them?

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jackaroo21 sbus and ibus won't interfere. I dont know about the Kakute. It probably supports ibus but you should check with the manufacturer

    Fantastic, answered lots of my questions.
    Is the S-BUS inverted like FrSky receivers?
    I'm connecting to naze32 rev5, which I don't think accepts inverted sbus, so I'm hoping not.
    And I'm really curious to see how often you reach for your taranis instead. Obviously in a different league, but how often are those extra features worth there weight?

    • @AlbertKimTV

    Albert,
    Can you tell if the TGY i6s firmware update will work on the Evolution as well? I would really like to see an extended menu with rates and throttle curve features like on my Flysky i6. Thanks

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually it does not. I tried to connect it and the updater doesn't recognize it. We'll have to wait for Hobbyking to bring out the updater. FYI, if you're a multirotor pilot, I recommend you adjust rates and throttle curve in the flight controller. If you're trying to use this with a fixed wing plane, this radio is not designed for that and I don't even think they will include any fixed wing features in a future firmware update.

    • @amrunner4
      @amrunner4 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Albert Kim
      I am using it for multirotor models,and I have heard the arguments of adjusting rates, etc through the FC software. But I like to be able to adjust things out in the field as i get used to a new model. It surprises me that the firmware isn't recognized, since the TGY i6s otherwise seems so similar

      The one that comes with it. It has also worked with the taranis on this FC. I have even turned on Air mode and turned the evo off and air mode just keeps going. Also Is there a way to turn of the up switch warning when turning it on?

      I think the X6B will be the one most likely to fit however, I don't have the Shuriken anymore to test if it will fit in there or not.

    It is not Flysky, It is Turnigy!

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, Turnigy is a rebrand and they use the FlySky protocol. I can bind the 2A FlySky receivers with this radio and can also bind the Turnigy receiver with my FlySky FS-i6S.

      If that is true, why there isn't Flysky evolution (or what ever). My question is how do you know that tgy is copy of flysky? What if it is opposite?

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never said it was a copy of a FlySky. HobbyKing worked with FlySky to develop the Evolution. It's a Turnigy product for now. At some point the exclusivity contract will expire and FlySky will release their own version. The same thing happened with the i6S. This is totally normal for the industry.
