Not only a fabulous drummer, but also a wonderful human being. I remember playing with his son as kids in South Bend, In. He was one of the kindest people that I have ever met. He is missed!!! Rest in His Arms, Mr. Nicks!
I'd call Billy one of my favorite musicians before I call him one of my favorite drummers. I mean that as about the highest compliment I can give anyone.
For someone who’s so powerful in his playing he’s so dynamic and so graceful! And his hellacious single stroke rolls is unmatched still to this day! Billy Cobham will always be my drum hero!
BILLY COBHAM one of the best ever,a true Master. Tama Babinga is the best sounding and looking kit he has ever played. Although I did like the Clear Fibes.
I love all the bad ass drummers out there. There is a big list. But for me. It started with you and it will end with you. Only another drummer can really tell the difference. Ego aside. your a monster. Love Ya big time.
Billy’s the man, one of the many legends I look up too. Him and Simon are two of my favourites 🥁 also these Star drums sound fantastic, very expensive but worth it. I watched how they were made and was extremely blown away with the craftsmanship, it made me switch back to Tama. Glad to be part of the Tama fam again, I shouldn’t have left in the first place.
He is a left hander, very much like Ringo Star of Beatles and an Indian drummer Sivamani. All three left handers do wonders with open hand playing style and the other right handed drummers have to practice immensely to play in Ambidextrous way.
This is way different for sure, I like the album version better. But he still delivers! OK. I guess I enjoyed the album version because its chill. This version is crazy. Awesome.
I've been listening to him for decades, but have never seen a video until this. What's up with the setup? Is he left-handed (open), but right footed? This is one of the craziest setups I've seen.
+Redeye Percussion From what I understand, he plays from both sides using a right handed drum setup like most of us. He is equally adept at riding with either hand. In fact he has ride cymbals on his left side, and as you will notice, he plays his hi-hat with his left hand instead of crossing over. In my opinion, that's how all drummers should learn to play from the first time they sit behind a set of drums. It's so much easier than the cross-over technique mos of us use. I remember when I was studying, how the drum manuals would always say to practice with both hands leading - for example, play a passage or set of bars starting with the right hand, then switching and starting with the left hand. This is what Cobham and a few others have learned to do. More drummers should be able to play equally well from the left or right side. it's not easy though...hehehe
+joe jewhurst - Thanks for the reply. I am familiar with the open-handed style and I knew he used it, but the tom setup is what threw me off. The thing that looks odd is the rack toms going in a different direction than the floor toms. I suppose if you played like this long enough, it would be natural, but it still looks crazy.
+Redeye Percussion yeah, I agree with you. it does look like a crazy setup, but boy, oh boy, it sure works for Billy though. The guy is just an amazing drummer in my opinion. I remember hearing and listening to him way back in the early '70's when I was in high school, and just getting into my musical career and playing drums. Back then I didn't know about Steve Gadd and Dave Weckl, and Vinnie Colaiuta and some of the other world's greatest drummers. Of course like all of us, I knew and loved BR, the master who all drummers aspire to I think. Anyway, enjoy chatting with you. Keep your sticks close to your heads and your feet firmly planted on your pedals. Just have fun!
This version actually seems to be on "Palindrome". There are many studio versions of this incredible composition! Also check out his latest album with "Frankfurt Radio Big Band" called "Broad Horizon". That's my favorite version so far.
But he has a signature snare drum in Yamaha Drums, why he came back to Tama? ....and if he could other drummers can return with Tama like Dave Lombardo?
Monster player and a pioneer but these drums do not suit his style. The toms don't cut at all even though, no doubt, they are great shells. Could be the heads.
Not only a fabulous drummer, but also a wonderful human being. I remember playing with his son as kids in South Bend, In. He was one of the kindest people that I have ever met. He is missed!!! Rest in His Arms, Mr. Nicks!
Wicked Drumming

Cobham has always been in the pocket from Day 1 keeping it varied and still in the groove no one plays like him unique great Drummer
Been listening to Mr.Cobham since 1969! He is such a joy to watch and listen to! Thanks for all you do!
This is drums art. Creative and musical at the highest level. This is an excellent example of how to become old. For me nothing compare.
This is the man you never hear off brilliant drummer 👏
I'd call Billy one of my favorite musicians before I call him one of my favorite drummers. I mean that as about the highest compliment I can give anyone.
I'm sure he's honored to receive your highest compliment you can give anyone.
For someone who’s so powerful in his playing he’s so dynamic and so graceful! And his hellacious single stroke rolls is unmatched still to this day! Billy Cobham will always be my drum hero!
This is one of my all-time favourite jazz musicians drummers and more one of the best! BT
Such a legend and inspiration.
God bless Billy Cobham
No matter what kit he plays,he is a great musician, drummer and inspiration! Thank you, master Billy Cobham.
My favourite drummer - always has been and always will be...
Great sound, great set and great playing. Varied, musically and in the pocket. I have heard this version a few times now and I enjoy it every time.

Billy is so in pocket on this Beautiful grove.
the grooviest behind a kit no matter what kit he plays.
Sempre bellissimo lo stile é il groou del mitico maestro👌🏆👍
Watching this every day...
Nothing but love!
Finally Billy Cobhan understood that this huge drums needs a few extra cymbals!
Inspirational. 😊
Being a star kit of that size it probably costs more than my house.
love his cymbal allignment to his right.

Билли Кобэм ЛУЧШИЙ!!!
I'd like to hear a duo featuring Billy Cobham and Bernard Purdie.
That roll at the end....god...
OMG there ain't nothing about his playing I don't love, how/ why the left hand on the hi-hat ? Billy you're just so damn good!
He is a left hander, very much like Ringo Star of Beatles and an Indian drummer Sivamani. All three left handers do wonders with open hand playing style and the other right handed drummers have to practice immensely to play in Ambidextrous way.
素晴らしい!!
Tama build the best drums and Billy is one of the best. A logical combination...
Super !!! Tama bubinga ?
This is way different for sure, I like the album version better. But he still delivers!
OK. I guess I enjoyed the album version because its chill. This version is crazy. Awesome.
Billy Cobham monstro haha
Let’s get a drum ensemble going with Billy Cobham, Dennis Chambers, Carter Beauford, and Simon Phillips.
They learned (tried to learn him) and copied Billy Cobham.

Check out Bobby Jarzombek, he does the same thing on a (slightly) smaller kit,,,
Billy C. is actually right handed, his unique format of playing is a result of an insane amount of practice. He is AWESOME !!!
Mestre!
Those are some big arse drums
YES
One question: ylliB, how come You gotta play backwards? Its tough enough trying to play your fills normally.
He's a left handed drummer playing right handed therefore his toms are set for left hand.
JAZZMUSIC! DRUMMER GREAT! (BC)! OF JAZZMUSIC! AND TAMA JAZZMUSIC!
Did he just... Are his tom toms (biggest to smallest) tuned to high to low
well - hez the one !
Hey could anyone please tell me which song this is and from which album? I'd be very appreciative.
Sam Clarke, the name of the song is "Mirage" and it's on the album "Focused".
Thanks mate!
This version actually seems to be on "Palindrome". There are many studio versions of this incredible composition!

1:32 ONE(1) IN A MILLION
Is this a Bubinga kit?
Maybe the 14" snare sounds a little bit Cobham.
Who are the others musicians ??
This guy is pretty good. I think with some more practice he can be something great some day.
6:20 wow...
Who is a saxophonist?
Dennis Chambers is SO much influenced by Cobham... even the odd faces... but a little more steroids... :) Two masters though. Respect! Live long!
André De Lemos Cobham and Gary Husband too!
Billy is just another league. He's more tasty and musical.
But he has a signature snare drum in Yamaha Drums, why he came back to Tama? ....and if he could other drummers can return with Tama like Dave Lombardo?
***** I know that my friend, I hope Dave Lombardo return to this company, I think he still using tams hardware on his concerts
Maybe has to do with the fact that Yamaha moved their production to China and their high end kits are not built in the same way anymore
Carlos Leiva Not entirely. Yamaha still make their most expensive drums, the PHX series in Japan.
fuzzylogiceire
fuzzylogiceire , Not the same shells though, they could be better now, who knows???
Love this track, but if this is recorded track, why is the bassist always late? It's making us look bad....
what?? song?
국거리용멸치 Mkrage from Palindrome and Focused
Converse

My. You"ve been milking those same few beats for 50 years.
milk is pretty damn popular
pocket
Shells made in Japan, but you get corroded Chinese hardware. Might as well just get a Starclassic or a cheaper Chinese set.
Un-fuckingly-reachable by any one.....
Monster player and a pioneer but these drums do not suit his style. The toms don't cut at all even though, no doubt, they are great shells. Could be the heads.
I think its a result of poor engineering, the sound in general is poor, the hole set sounds lifeless including the cymbals.
