  • Installation, low speed testing, and some high speed testing! Recently I installed the "EPIK TREK" Spring Under Axle Suspension kit from Trail Tough. Here is a little overview of the install as well as some initial testing!

I pieced together a simple spua set for my stock 1987 with the OME springs and DrZ shackles,, I even bought his missing link shackles for the front, which give me better traction without lockers by keepin more wheel contact to the ground. I can now easily get past rutted parts where I could not before. I use my Zuk like you,, nothing too extreme just trails and local roads.

Sick! I was really close to going with the Dr. Z setup and similar to what you did. I really wanted to be able to 'lock-out" the drop out missing link part of the shackle which is the main reason I went this route. In retrospect, it probably makes no difference haha. I'd love to do a side by side comparison of Dr. Z and Trail Tough SPUA lifts, where are you located roughly?

@@samuraiszn true, I saw lots of concerns about them opening up, but they stay put till they need to open. I'm in Globe Az

Shock tuning is everything for high speed running in a samurai. Are those shocks rebuildable/tunable?

    • @samuraiszn
      @samuraiszn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

That is something I have come to realize. These shocks are not, next round I will go with something with more adjustability for sure!

So iy looks like the front shackles preclude the installation of any aftermarket bumper?
And how does it handle at highway speeds?
    Thanks for doing this.

Hey Mr. Jeeper, great question. You definitely need to consider front bumper options.. You could probably get away with running a stock one still but you would need to heavily modify it by cutting and making some new mounts for it. I wanted to keep the stock one but it was going to be more work than it was worth - I ended up using this as an excuse to do something new. Highway speeds are great so far, I did a trip that was about 5hrs each direction and it was smooth and easy! I also noticed the leafs have gotten smoother and slightly less lift now that things are broken in. Keep in mind that is with the Spring Under (SPUA) configuration, I cannot speak to how the Spring Over (SPOA) setup rides.

Great video n setup . So you have disconnected the front sway bar completely? How about highway high-speed driving. Doesn't the car sway too much ? My LWB zuk is my daily drive , so wondering if I should go with this setup + install a detachable sway bar setup in front that can be easily disconnected when offroading.

What pod mounts are those at the bottom of the windshield

Hey Rodney, we actually just welded light tabs to the stock windshield frame mounts. I'm not sure if anyone sells something like that but it is a great spot for some lights!

hey Colin, most definitely! I want to make sure I do it right and have time to pull them out as well as redo the mounts.. I'll likely get to that this summer

Did you have to use rear leafs up from for this build?

No, the video shows complete replacement. Never cheap out and do RUFF… the amount of money and time might as well go YJ’s and missing front links.

Did you go for lifted springs or are they stock YJ height springs?

Hi Caden, to my knowledge these are stock YJ height springs

The bolts sux. I opted the purchase stainless and never put them in. They are fine for the street and have not opened, best I can tell while cornering but if you act stupid I guess they can.
