I made this tonight as I’m putting together some hampers to give to family for Xmas with some homemade goodies. My husband nearly lost a finger trying to grab the pieces as I was chopping it up. It was so so so good! I’m worried I’ll have to re make this as there won’t be any left by the end of the weekend. Thanks for such a great and easy recipe for the holidays, you’re a life saver. X
You are better than an "okay" baker!! You are just human...we all make mistakes now and then. But you know your stuff, and have lots of helpful hints for those of us who actually are "okay" bakers and cooks.
In the video you say to use peppermint extract - NOT oil; however on the video overlay, it reads to add 1/2 tsp peppermint oil. This is a fantastic recipe and I an so glad I actually listened to the audio. Guess a suggestion, you may want to edit so during the video it reads that you are adding peppermint extract. Thanks for sharing this great (and simple) holiday recipe.
John, you said “I’m an OK baker.” WHAT DO YOU MEAN! You are 10 times a better baker. I’d love for you to launch a Preppy Kitchen cookbook because I love to cook and I dream of going to culinary school. Your treats are fantastic, eye catching, and sound great goo. Keep filming and blogging. Love your channel ❤️!
First of all John, I've made several things from your videos and loved every single one! I made this last night and tried to buy the best quality chocolate but had to settle for the white chocolate chips because the bars were sold out. It was super easy and I think my mistake was not letting the dark chocolate set enough before adding the white. It was a bit hard to spread the white chocolate out evenly over the dark and after letting it set overnight, the white and dark chocolate kind of separated during the cutting process. It tastes wonderful but the pieces didn't cut as cleanly as yours. Any advice for next time?
Last year, the action of cutting the bark caused the layers to separate unintentionally because it's too thick to cut. What happens for me (might be my knife) is the thickness causes the knife to rock side to side as I press down and it shears the white chocolate away and it looked terrible!!! To fix it, I used a casserole dish instead and made the bark thinner so it was easier to snap without needing a knife 😀.
Just made it, and I kinda messed up but I’m so excited to try it! I forgot to let the chocolate cool before adding the white chocolate so it just fell into the chocolate. I swirled it a bit in there so it won’t have the pretty layers but I’m sure it’ll taste delicious
It doesn't matter how many times I've watched your videos...I watch them over and over and it always thrills me every time!! If I had one wish...it would be your Sous Chef for just one day!
Just a money saving tip: Around the holidays candy canes are super expensive. But you can easily buy the smaller round ones like the ones they give out at restaurants for so much cheaper!
Thank you so very much for the tip on the blow dryer. I had to do that and it worked perfectly! I love your channel and have been looking for your book. Thank you so much for all the recipes!!!
Once, I found a Dove candy bar wrapper all chewed up on my kitchen floor, sans the chocolate. My Schnauzer, Jimmy, some how found that chocolate bar and devoured it. It was LATE at night, and I was frantic. I called an emergency vet's office. They gave me a 1-800 number to get the remedy. Of course, I called, in a total frinzy. They would not give me the antidote until I gave them a credit card number. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME??? Here's the antidote... Force three tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide down your dog's throat. Take them for a walk to stimulate the antidote. I was told that Jimmy would vomit up the chocolate. Well...I did what they told me. Jimmy and I went on a walk at about 11:00 p.m., and he never vomitted. He must have a cast iron stomach. That chocolate never fazed, him but that's very, very unusual. I was one of the lucky ones. Remember! Force three tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide down your dog's throat to induce vomitting. It's better to be safe than risk losing a dear member of the family.
@@ameliareaganwright2758 It's a good antidote, and I've used it a few times over the course of dog ownership. It's so important to educate ourselves: your dosage is only correct for dogs of a certain weight. That much would kill one of my small dogs. Dosage varies depending on the size of your pet, and there are some chemicals that you DON'T want to bring back up. A handy guide is here: www.pethealthnetwork.com/dog-health/dog-toxins-poisons/inducing-vomiting-your-dog
I have read that too and my vet said his dog eats chocolate all the time. He said each dog has different ways of tolerating things. I'm not trying it to find out if mine can or can't. I love mine too much!! (My dog...not the chocolate 😂)
@@kateamarlow Thank you for the info! The vet antifote site did ask what size Schnauzer I had. He's a miniature Schnauzer. Based on that, they told me their recommended proper dosage.
I love this video! Thank you! Also, I have been struggling with Bavarian Cream for years. I try to make Danish Rum Pudding, which is essentially a rum flavored Bavarian Cream topped with raspberry sauce, but as I never saw my grandmother make it I have been trying to learn from videos. We sometimes end up with a sauce rather than a pudding. Very frustrating as we add an almond to the pudding and the one who gets the almond in their serving gets a small prize. I don't mean to be presumptuous but if you ever get a chance to show us a Bavarian Cream it would be very much appreciated. Thank you in any case!
It looks beautiful 😊❤️ this would be great to add to my cookie platter. This year I’ll be making your lemon cake again for my mom. That’s her favorite and she loved it when I made it the 1st time. She’s a Christmas baby so ima make it again per her request! Loveeeee your recipes! 👍🏽😀
Preppy Kitchen yes yes she gets what she wants on her special day! I must add I’m not much of a lemon cake fan.. but omg your recipe was the best 😍 so I’m looking forward in making it again!
I am so excited for this!!! I had peppermint bark for the first time (that I can remember) yesterday. I am sooooo beyond happy that I can make it myself now!!! Thank you!!!!
Also u could add all kinds of nuts but I have a nut allergy so I toast some Rice Krispies cereal in oven until toasty a little and add to the mixture it gives a crunchy texture almost like rice krispy treats 👍🏻
This guy always has and awesome smile.,.. Some people are gifted with a smile😁😁😁😃😄 Thank You For The Recipe... Bite Into A Piece Of Peppermint Bark., Will Definitely Leave You Smiling😃😊😄😁😁 🍫🍭
To those who've made this and also have had the Williams-Sonoma bark, which do you prefer (regardless of the cost aspect)? The WS version has set the standard for me in the past.
Think I might do this one soon :) me and the three girls I live with are doing a Christmas meal soon and as much as I'd like to make a "proper" dessert, I think this might do the trick! (I'm the baker of the household :p)
Your dog looks just like my Grace, except Grace is smaller. I can almost smell the chocolate & mint. I'm going to do some post Christmas cooking. ( Was in the hospital Christmas day) .
I was envious when she said “this is what I do all day.” Sigh 😔 I want that life!
I feel the same way that’s my dream is to stay home and cook all day
Wouldn't that be nice. I want her kitchen too.
I am Brazilian. In addition to having amazing recipes, your videos help me a lot to practice English.❤
Its good too because he talks a littke slow :)

Did anyone else notice how he said "peppermint extract in not the same a peppermint oil" and then in the subtitles it says 1/2 tsp PEPPERMINT OIL

My ex boyfriend introduced me to this crack candy. Only sweet thing about him!
I think John is too sweet to feel the weird vibe I get off of Amy.
Erica Garcia Shes into him; even though he’s married and she’s not his type.

So you used peppermint extract, correct? Both are listed on his recipe page too.
My new kitchen has all drawers and 2 pantries, lovin it! No bending or kneeling to get pots, pans, and baking sheets.
