    That is actually an egg loop knot. They use it a lot in the Northwest for salmon and steelhead fishing.

      Yeah like I've said before it makes sense. My grandfather was a really big salmon fisherman and he taught me the knot. But definitely thank you for that. I've always wanted to know what it was called.

      That's exactly right. I know we get caught up in what's best for us but every now and again we got to think bigger than that.

      Oh ok. Makes sense. My grandfather was a commercial salmon fisherman and he taught me the not. Been using it since I was a kid.

    Like that knot! I slide a rubber bead on above my swivel and then pull it back down over my knot when I’m dragging, it seems to keep my swivel from getting beat up.

    My old catfishing buddy and I would do hook, same amount of leader line, peg float just as you do then tie to barrel swivel. On mainline above swivel plastic bead and a sinker slide. Thats it. We used 50 pound mono for leader line.

    • @mickaburkhart14
      @mickaburkhart14  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's kinda what I do for sure. But I am gonna start adding a rubber bead to the top of my swivel. Maybe make it last longer than one trip.

    • @kevinbrown2630
      @kevinbrown2630 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @mickaburkhart14 I do check my leader line all the time especially when bank fishing in river with rock. My biggest problem is getting the big fish to the boat or bank with 80 pound braid, they tend to break it or spool me. You know it's big fish when they go past the boat rather than the back or just to the side. That's when the blood pressure goes up for sure. Biggest I have landed is a 75 pound blue and my buddy got his personal best of 84 . But I also have another friend that has the state record blue for kansas of 102.

    Good information! Micka, I think you should run the Carbyne Heavy action on your suspend rigs. I think it’s more about rod stiffness then hook when it comes to suspended baits.

    Since I live in a studio apartment I live in my rigging room. My rods are in a rack in the corner and my closet has all my tackle and the other half has my guns and deer hunting stuff. I am almost always outside doing stuff and don't entertain so a studio is good enough for me plus houses around here are probably around 300 k for a nice one plus at least 5k in taxes.

    I double the size of my main line to my leader for when I do get hung. I run 80lb braid main line and 50lb mono leader. That way when I do get hung up I know that the rig will break away.

    Great video, thanks! Do you reuse hooks more than the swivels, or should those be checked also, and do you often discard hooks too? Or maybe it doesn’t matter using your knot (love that one btw).

    • @mickaburkhart14
      @mickaburkhart14  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you. Yeah I reuse the hooks all the time. Only exception is if for some reason the tip bends or they become dull. I haven't had that happen yet with these hooks but did with others.

    Got a question about peg floats. Have you ever used the ones with the splits down the side with two pegs? I was wondering if they would work. That way, you could change size with the size of bait and weight your using.

    What size hook do you typically run? I typically use 8/0 for blues but thinking about going up to 10/0

    • @mickaburkhart14
