Like some folks think they don't need a limb, so they purposely get rid of a perfectly healthy limb. Dead would wear clothes on and off tour that he would bury with dead animals behind the house he died in. What you saw with him was actually what he thought he was. It didn't change on or off stage. On top of using a gun, he also cut his neck. He wanted to really make sure he wasn't coming back. His story always makes me so sad.

There are actually 'pirate music festivals', and I used to attend them frequently when I lived in Portland. There were already some in the '90s that I was aware of, and then stuff like the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and Master and Commander made the subject more popular about 20 years ago and I noticed a lot more bands and bigger festivals happening. A lot of the bands are groups that mainly do something 'normal' but also have a shorter pirate-music set for festivals. I'm pretty sure it was at a pirate fest in PDX that I ended up getting drunk with Reggie Watts and we did a bunch of goofy shit... I definitely remember having a go-crazy night at a show with him, and he was in one of the bands, and then when he showed up as James Corden's bandleader I was like "wtf, I got shitfaced with that dude at a pirate show, and now he's on CBS"
Honestly its best to just walk away from such a toxic environment its certainly not worth committing a murder over not everyone has to get along with each other in life so if there is tension in the air a parting of ways is the best outcome for everyone

His answer was because he didn't want to goto jail and thought it was stupid and would achieve nothing because the church will just be rebuilt. It's funny because even though he's in a black metal band and portrays his character he's a chill, funny guy. Yeah I'm familiar with the varg story. He claimed it was self defense....stabbed the guy 23 times and left the scene and didn't call an ambulance. And I don't think I'd call merciful fate/ king diamond black metal. Yeah his lyrics have satanic and occult themes but black metal is also a style of music...it has a specific sound, merciful fate doesn't fit that mould.
One of the crazy Black Metal deaths I remember hearing ages ago was when a member threw a severed goat head into the audience and it resulted in the death of an audience member.

As a fan of black metal, i will point out that not all of it focuses on the Satanic side of things. far from it. Bands like Immortal, Dark Throne, Emperor, Enslaved are prime examples. To me, they embody Norse/Scandanavian folklore within their music/lyrics. Sure, I do listen to Marduk, Mayhem, Burzum, and others because by not doing so would be discourteous as a metal fan. I do it so I can gain a perspective of the genre. Furthermore, there are two other films I can offer to support in conjunction with Lords of Chaos: -Metal: A Headbanger's Journey (written/directed/starred Sam Dunn) -Until the Light Takes Us (this goes into greater detail of Black Metal/Varge's murder and conviction with interviews of him while he was in prison)

We'll never know what really happened that day in Oslo. Lords Of Chaos is trash, written by a poser who desperately wanted to be involved in the scene. The documentary Until The Light Takes Us is a much better route to take if you want to delve into the subject.
small correction, euronymus definitely took the picture of dead after he killed himself, but the bootleg album using that picture as the cover wasn't out until a couple of years after euronymus was dead and it was a fan made album.
It's deeply ironic that the Scandinavian countries have such a good social safety net and yet have so many petulant wanna-be edgelords who fail to appreciate their high living standards and instead choose to cosplay as cardboard evil villains.
It is crazy to thing how these records companies pay to free these criminals to continue this type of music and promoting this type of life but they won’t spend one dime in defending good people sent to prison for defending against criminals fueled by the music they promote.

I know that Varg said he killed Euro in "self-defense"...but I always felt some of the reason was because of Euro's reactions and actions in the after math of the suicide of Mayhem's Per Ohlin (Dead). Dead is the one I always felt badly for.
