      @@nyrailfan202So some of the P32ACs would have to operate on express services on the New Haven Line in the New Haven paint scheme numbered 228 to 231. But you got some others doing express services on the Hudson Line between and Grand Central and Poughkeepsie, and some others doing direct limited services on the Harlem Line between Grand Central and Wassaic.

    MTA actually recently made a deal with Siemens for a triple mode charger which is capable of using diesel, 3rd rail, and catenary. Amtrak will be getting a venture trainset with 1 ALC-42E with 3rd rail, diesel, and when a battery trailing car is equipped it will use battery power and will have 5 venture passenger cars.

    I expect the P32ACDM fleets will be around for quite a while, just like the FL9s were the longest Classic F series holdouts. This is especially likely now that the coronavirus pandemic has strained transit agency and Amtrak budgets. (Of course, if Amtrak goes under, their fleet might be out of service for a while until Metro North/ConnDoT can pick it up.)

    • @nyrailfan202
      @nyrailfan202  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Siemens has said that a charger dual mode would be possible. And it would be low enough for penn station/gct so there would be no reason other than cost not to purchase one. Whereas the Fl9’s were not replaced because there was no alternative to modify into a dual mode

    • @Lucius_Chiaraviglio
      @Lucius_Chiaraviglio 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nyrailfan202 The problem for replacing the P32AC-DMs with dual-mode Chargers isn't with making them, but with Amtrak/Metro North/ConnDoT being able to pay for them.
