bro imagine being so bad at doing a coup that you can't even overthrow a democratically elected socialist government in latin america 💀💀
That lack of Western backing is his only excuse
LMAOOO
💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
Right? It’s like level 1 coup. Maybe level 2
More like coup and seethe kek
For anyone who wants a quick summary: Bolivia's elected president fired a general. The general got pissy and tried to pull a coup. Unfortunately for him, he didn't tell his soldiers what he was up to. The soldiers broke down a door but didn't have further orders so they just stood around for a while. Once the soldiers made contact with the president, he explained the situation, ordered them to arrest the former general, and officially swore in the replacements for the guy who tried to pull the coup. The soldiers stayed loyal to the elected president, and followed his orders (as a result, they will not be charged with any offenses). The general was successfully arrested and everyone else just kind of went on with their day. By all appearances, the whole thing went over without bloodshed or major injuries. However, teargas and improvised explosives (fireworks) were deployed.
Unless further information is released, it appears this coup was just one disgruntled dude, not the coordinated action of an internal or external political faction.
Wheeze
Wait so what did he even tell his men? “Yeah just take the presidential palace for the meme?”
how are soldiers "loyal" if they marched in the president and used an armored truck to break in?
they aren't loyal, they just realised they didn't have the support.
@@rockmycd1319 exactly. there is no way the soldiers tore down that door and didn't know what's going on. they just realised they aren't backed by the people or the rest of the armed forces, so they chose a way out.
acting as if they were just poor misslead loyalists is insane.
@@rockmycd1319 Unclear at this time.
On one hand, the general could have told them exactly what he was planning. In which case, the may have simply been pragmatic and decided to support the side they felt was the most likely to succeed long term. It is possible the soldiers saw a way to save their own lives/reputations and took it.
On the other hand, it is possible the general was not forthcoming with information and simply abused the chain of command/ soldiers' natural tendency to follow orders from authority. There was definitely a lack of leadership/direction in the early minutes of the coup, and the soldiers were apparently open to dialogue with the president. Not exactly the behavior of people who know they are committing a coup.
Vaush suggested the "let's go get some ice cream" theory. It is currently my favored explanation, and the one I believe is most strongly supported by the available evidence. I will not be elaborating further at this time.
General Zuniga rolls worst coup attempt in history, is asked to leave Bolivia
no that's Jan 6th
@@MakaroscNah, at least the people there knew what they were there for. Can’t say the same for the poor company of guys who thought they were going on a field trip to the presidential palace.
@@rockmycd1319I think that gives Jan 6 hogs much more credit than they deserve
na, have we already forgotten prigos bizzare adventure?
@@rockmycd1319Let's be fair here, Jan 6 mob was looking for final QAnon proof in the back of senators' notes in the chamber. It wasn't exactly a coherent uprising.
Ok, there is no way this was the funniest coup attempt. Castillo's coup attempt in Peru one and a half years ago was so comedic.
Castillo: "The parliment is now disolved, and the army will enforce this!"
Parliment: "No."
Army: "Erm... No."
*Castillo arrested on his way to the Mexican embassy*
And just after two years after Manuel Merino with the help of Congress made his auto-coup to make himself president. T_T
Wtf has this area been newly cursed?! We were going so well with like 30 years without a coup attempt…
Lmao true, at least this guy did have some support within the military.
Wasnt Castillo the Prez of Peru?
@@antoniosarmientoluna6497 Yep. He had nearly no support within the congress, and there were a bunch of corrruption allegations against him and his family (some were credible, some not so), so he tried to close the congress.
yeah, we've had a couple funny years this decade huh.
"I'm here with a few armored vehicles and some riot police, now leave!"

>Bolivian Army launches most mid Coup ever

Coup fails to topple democratic country? You love to see it.
Cuz we always see the terrible results of successes
Bourgeois democracy isn’t democracy. I’ll take it over a more centralized bourgeois state though.
*As someone who speaks Spanish,* even the news anchors seem confused 😂 Which is hilarious because they are White Hispanics, wealthy, and in theory, SHOULD be on board of the right-wing coup...but even THEY seem to not be on board 🤣
Mestizos or Castizos?
See, that’s what I’ve been saying there was literally no support for this guy across-the-board 😂 it wasn’t CIA
@@YokaiXMost likely castizos.
I get being upset over being fired, but this is a hell of a way to let the entire world know that you have, in fact, been fired.
Not me rolling up to Starbucks in a Bradley tank cuz they fired me for being late.
man i wish our right wing was so overt yet ineffective so the country would actually rally against them
Fingers crossed for November/January 🤞🤞
Unfortunately, today's fascists seem to be as effective as they're incompetent
they are just as overt and half your country thinks it's not enough
It actually happened in my country. Let's hope the election faking isn't effective enaugh for them

there better be a silly slapstick hijinks cartoon about this event someday. this was so fucking hilarious to go from "oh god, a coup, that's bad" to "this is the funniest historical event i've ever lived through"
No vovsh you dont understand, the general really hated that door, this special military operation was to force the government to get a new door.
Man got fired and decided “fuck it, we ball”
President explaining that him firing that general was totally justified because "Just look at him! He is so incompetent that he can not even coup me properly" was nice cherry on top.
It's a "You can't fire me, I quit!" kinda coup.

Back in 2019, the military pressured Morales out of power, and lots of people were freaking out about that. Fortunately the only thing that happened was a democratic interim government that quickly held new elections, leading to Arce as the current president
"Bolivia, a country you think about so little that you didn't notice that that isn't Bolivia..."
"Sometimes a guy just does a big silly" sums it up pretty well
IDK if he goes in depth about this I d9nt have time to watch the full thing and wanna go in depth on my own channel but I will include 2 facts of the Bolivian Political Landscape for those who are interested.
1. The General who committed the Coup has stated that Arce told him to do the coup to build morale in his Government in the lead up to the 2025 Elections. Nobody outside of sone rando Westerners believe him as far as I am aware
2. Luis Arce and Evo Morales, despite being in the same Party FUCKING HATE EACHOTHER. All stemming from Arces win. When Arce won, Evo thought that he would have an active role in his administration, but Arce governed as his own individual. Despite not straying too far from Evo Ideologically, Evo has ran on "ARCE IS A TRAITOR" and has pushed for himself to be nominated by MAS-IPSP, to which a faction of the party Did nominate him and unformally expelled Arce from the Party. So...there's that
UPDATE: EVO MORALES NOW IS ACCUSING ARCE OF DOING THE COUP
Dude trying to argue that he was fighting against a "color revolution" 😑
It's so cursed that I first learned that term from Luna Oi.

They were chanting the chorus of El Pueblo Unido when you were confused about what they were chanting. Look it up. "El pueblo unido jamás será vencido" means "the people united will never be defeated," and it's the chorus of a VERY popular and important song in Latin American circles.
I think that translation is verbatim used in US protests too
a coup attempt that is somehow more shameful than Prigozjins
Going to a commercial break during an active military coup is just about the most capitalist Latin American thing.
This is absolutely true of militaries everywhere I was in one. When you see everyone else dressed like you all going in one direction you join them and also march that way. You have no idea why but if this many of you are doing it the. Someone was ordered and it’s important. It’s the best chance you have to avoid trouble or discipline. Follow the crowd.
