My 2016 XR650L is few miles short of turning 16,000 miles and is pretty much bone stock. I just can’t beat the 52 mpg but I’m pretty smooth with the throttle. I originally bought the bike just to cruise around on the backroads. In the last couple years I started taking on some of the easier dual sports and lately adventure rides. If its a real dual sport I take my KTM. The XR (even bone stock) is just a fun bike. I will admit she is a tall girl which is why I chose her over the Suzuki DR650. At 6’-7” I wanted the tallest bike out there. She is a little heavy so my goal for any rides I do is ZERO FALLS. This eliminates picking her up and minimizing the chances of getting hurt. I can’t believe bike prices, I paid $6250 out the door.
Another mint fresh bike from Justin, with very impressive upgrades. I love how he bought the Red stainless steel brake lines to put on this bikes. Looks like you don't even have to put any effort forth to make it wheelie. Definitely a wheelie machine, and I love the sound of it's exhaust system.
I have a pristine 650R but I have to say I really like that bike with the upgrades. I'm still asking myself why Honda has yet to produce the 650R again or something with the same powerplant and modern suspension and electronics. They wouldn't be able to produce enough ever
It’s a great question. It really annoys me!!
I’d assume it has to do with production issues. It’s more cost effective to have less models when mass producing on that level. I’d think they’d be able to produce a liquid cooled 650 at the same factory that they produce the air cooled one but maybe not. I’d like to know the real answer too
Because the crf450x came out and was better in nearly every way
@orangekilla3374 what?? Hahaha no not really a hopped up 650 will chew on that bike immensely. The 650R motor uncorked on that 450 frame is what Honda should have already produced
@orangekilla3374 I'm sorry you feel that way but you might want to look at the history of the 650R. I'm not sure what you think is better other than the modern suspension and fuel injection. I would laugh if someone wanted to trade for a 450x and I'm not saying they're not good bikes. But then again I was eating people alive on my 91 KX500 long after they were outlawed basically but I did like the suspension on newer 450s maybe I'm old school a bit
Hi Ken sure does brings back memories of this bike.. I usually stayed with the XR's...But in fact i did one time buy a XR650L..Like this bike...I installed a sleave kit by L.A. Sleave 720cc Kit...With a HCR XR650R Bullet Cam. Different pipe ect..tuned and carb was as well done... She had power for sure in around that 46 HP Est... range...Sold it because it was just to heavy and of course would never handle like a XR650R. Just a little memory for yea Ken...Have a SUPER DAY ! ... That bike was sold and i went into the (( NEW 2000 XR650R )) Also Ken, I did the uncorking on the bike and i put a NOS Stage 2 HRC Kit on her, geared it larger carb, what a difference, she was a Power House ! Plus the * New Engine Design * was much better !
Sweet video! Love the bike and the wheeiles, that brings back some fun memories. Owned an '83 XL600 with XR500 front and rear suspension under it "back in the late 80s day" living in Southern CA. Loved that XL and rode it everywhere from local streets, to freeways to trail riding. Best of all it did great wheelies. In finally sold the XL and got a proper dirt bike ('87 CR 250) as the cops were really wanting to have a roadside chat with me about those 5 gear XL street wheelies, and I had a bad habit of jumping medians and doing other urban enduro things to avoid those unpleasantries 😆
I suspect the reason Honda doesn't update the 650L or bring back the 650R is due to emissions regs. I own a new '23 Husky 701 Enduro. Great bike, but to be honest it runs like crap as delivered with soft low end and part throttle response, as is it is fueled stupid lean and choked up to meet Euro 5 emissions and sound requirements. Ya, if the rider pins it, the big KTM thumper will go as it finally is running in the area of it's fueling map not completely controlled by the government, but who rides a 693cc thumper with a pinned throttle very often? I was very disappointed in how my 701 ran - I want my big thumpers to thump and grunt, I won't lie...
Of course that would never do, so I added a cannon length class Yosh can and spent more money with my friends at Rottweiler Performance to add their O2 sensor eliminator and a PC6 with their map on it to fix the lean fueling. Now it is an absolute beast with XR650R like low end with an insane hard revving top end pull, and the sound is brappalicious. The older air cooled bikes don't have the performance potential of my 701, but getting them to run correctly by installing a Dynojet carb kit, swapping the exhaust can, and removing the smog crap is easy and comparatively cheap. The only reason I went with the 701 is I'm getting older and life is short...
61 years old now, I can do about 1/8th mile long 2nd gear power wheelies on the 701, but nothing like the perfect balanced feathered throttle jobs that I did on the XL as a young punk. Older and supposedly wiser now, I find that the far more powerful 701 also carries a lot more weight on it's front tire than the XL did. This is probably to keep it stable, the bike can pull almost 120 MPH with the 16/45 gearing I run. All in all the more planted front end is probably a good thing as it does steer accurately for a bike with a 21" front wheel on a canyon road, and even though I'm older and more "mature" now, I can't help myself when it comes to low level hooliganism ;)
That's got to be the best bike for me,man I love it
God bless America and that bike Amen
Love my XR650L, so much fun and a solid bike for any type of riding!!
Curious what company supplied the Brake Lines on that bike?? I would Like to Upgrade my Rubbers to Braided Stainless lines too...
That bike is so fuckin badass bone stock including the silencer and even the Cali smog crap. People make it seem like you can’t even ride it without uncorking it but I’ve literally never been in a situation where it doesn’t have enough power and I ride pretty hard stuff. It’ll cruise at 90 and do 100 if the winds at your back and that’s enough for me. Got the front end up at 85 with no clutch today.
Nice! I have a 2022. I want to set mine up exactly the same. Uncork it the same way, but keep it as stock as possible.
It’s a diamond! 💎 and it sure don’t get no better, Kap
Good morning, Kap! Love the 650.
Classic big bore 4 stroke Honda XR, nice bike.
I had a 1997. Still the same. Perfect.
I need one of these!
XR notes are the best
Sweet bike. I had a 86 KLR600, kids called it the helicopter because of the idle. There was an XR 600, an XT600 and a DR 600 in the area back then. The kick start return malfunctioned and split the right cover and center crankase when it caught.😢
You guys have better weather than NW WA. I thought it was similar. I see sun. I'm jealous. Beautiful Honda.
I have a 1994 XR 650L. It has 11k original miles and it runs great. Still needs to be jetted with a pipe.
If you ever come across a hill it can’t make it up with the stock pipe and jetting then buy one, otherwise it’s just a waste of money in my opinion. But that’s just my opinion
I had one. Really hard not to like. I have a 1290 SAR really cool too
Your an inspiration old boy.
Dio ti benedica Kap ❤ grazie per la visione di queste splendide moto.
I've always loved them .
Wow what a great bike !
Great thumper , bullet proof 💪💪
Nice wheelies!
Sweet bike!
Thee Most famous of all! I have 2021 Modded to Death
Keep the bike! is pure Gold 💰🧾💰
Can anyone tell me what else was done to this bike? I bought a '23 last year and would really like to uncork it. I already know about the header/exhaust and have already changed out the front sprocket.
It looks like the 1992 XR600R (with air scoops).
A great bike but they don't sell them in Australia. Perfect for me.
You guys get models we want and vice versa why can’t they ship some stuff back n forth ? Sucks that two strokes aren’t street legal here I need a DT200 (not available in the US) for my trail bike.
Great bike! But I hope you changed out the stock countershaft sprocket!! They’re known for wearing out the splines on these bikes!!! Do it before it’s too late
Yeah, now that you mention it, I have read and seen examples of it. They have a sprocket available that has more width to engage more of the splines and doesn't wear it out.
@@ar2043 correct. The brand is called Fritzco
What askin price? I’m lookin for xr650r, that seems nice too!

I had a big gun on my 400 I also had the white brothers one too the white brothers was the best performance wise but the big gun sounds great tho lol
