The sword and fan are still on their designs mind you, as little pins on their blazer and tie respectively to show that it's still them, just in a talk bank and not a song bank. People aren't buying them for the designs, they're buying them for the voice. Nobody has ever bought VY1V4 because she's a bunch of colourful instruments in the shape of a fan, they buy her because she is versatile and realistic for 2015 standards. It's the same reason why the V5 and V6 standard voicebanks are visually unappealing too, because it's meant to put emphasis on the voice and not the design.
Aaahhhggg is just too real... I was used to describe the Luka's voice as Mature and soft, I really liked how the producers put their emotions in the robot, making it feel alive, and emotive, but I don't know why, I can't feel the same with SP, it doesn't feel that deep... And is like it was singing a copy of the software or some kind of AI, and sometimes I feel it annoying as Meiko's voice, I didn't really gave her a try because I always heard a very nasal sound that I hate it, but when I heard "Break it, Break it" I was really surprised by how good it sounded for me, that image of Meiko that I had completely faded, and today I'm trying more songs to see if It's really a really good vocal, or it was a very talented producer saving her. PD: The Luka's English in SP is the queen of the biggest ***** in this universe, completely horrible, she was supposed to be the vocaloid to connect the world, not confuse it with the weird speech!!!! 😭

project sekai is BIG CONTROVERSIAL but i think the biggest thing about it is that some vocaloid fans, especially old vocaloid fans, go into it thinking it will be a vocaloid thing. and….its really not. it’s a good game imo!! but the vocaloids are side characters, NOT the main focus. and if people accepted that (like you did, realizing that the human characters weren’t interesting to you and so the game wasn’t for you), we’d all be better off

Some producers do it well and other times they flop (like the Harumaki Gohan example here, I like Dinner Bell and Meltyland Nightmare but other songs I listen to his self covers) hard that it makes it unbearable to me. Theres a few other vocaloids I dont really like their high pitch (Kaito, Luka) but I will tolerate it if its decent
VY2 and VY1's fan designs (especially VY2's pink-haired design) are so much better than whatever bland design Yamaha gave for their new voice banks. They both look like NPC office workers. Nothing about their clothing or color palette pop out about them, and it's a shame because I really like their voices.
I feel kinda mixed about the designs. I think the art is good. I just wish they didn't give them those boring-ass suits. But overall I don't mind them much.

I like it more than the Future Tone toon shader. I think the Mega Mix shader works for songs like Two-Faced Lovers and Catch the Wave etc but overall it doesn’t fit most songs. I’m used to it now though since I have Mega Mix and all it’s DLC as I didn’t have a PS4 at the time and my laptop cannot handle Mega Mix+ lmao
I don’t mind the bright colors or textures usually. Probably because I prefer brighter colors personally. But I hate it on more mature songs/songs with darker backgrounds it just feels like she got green screened and stands out too much 😞

Project Sekai dislike is so real. Like do I like some of the other characters now and like that it is exposing more people to vocaloid? Yes. Do I like that they cover iconic vocaloid songs and now so many people say they like the song while trashing the original vocaloid version? Hell no. The only time i prefer the Sekai version of songs is when the tuning in the original is god awful (i am looking at you balloon). And the fact that SEGA is focusing more on project sekai than making new and better project diva games pisses me off. And before anyone says anything I am a fan of project sekai but still have major criticisms
I completely agree with you. I like Project Sekai and I do see the positives like bringing retired producers back for an original song and such or exposing more people to Vocaloid. Heck, the only times I ever show up is to read up on characters I do like or to farm gems/get the cards I really want. But you're right about it having major criticisms. For example, I don't like the rewards all that much. They give you so little. And even though I said I show up to farm, at times it can be really tedious and boring and can really burn you out(at least for me anyway). The one thing that makes me so salty for Project Sekai, is that it genuinely makes wish there should be a Vocaloid game where ALL Vocaloids show up and interact with each other. I'm sure there's hurdles and such but hey a person can dream right? lol.
I have to say that I hate some of the VS versions of the songs (looking at you, Cinema), so I get why people prefer Sekai versions, as some of the tuning of original version can be questionable at least. On the other hand, I can't still comprehend, how some VS versions sound way more emotional than the Sekai versions (Len's Lost one's weeping and Pulse of the meteor). Like, if they can hire someone to make a cover for them with high quality tuning like Cillia and some producers (Miku's Tricologe), then why do some new covers sound trash even after almost 4 years of the game?! Thankfully, Meiko sounds better now than in older covers. At least she gets more representation in Sekai than in all of Diva game history, which I really like.

Ill be honest, trashing on the vocaloid version is more a fandom problem. It would have been perfect if we took the covers AS COVERS, just like we do with for example Vocaloid Gumi and Synthv Gumi, or Utau Teto and Synthv Teto, theyre NOT tryna overwrite the old, theyre OPTIONS but some ppl cant see that. My hot take is that projsekai is genuinely ruining people’s perception of vocaloid, like they think crypton vocaloids have certain personality traits/stories which was almost never the case before the game. And the fact that THE vocaloids that the game is about appear very little in the game, they don’t play a major role so is it really a vocaloid game anymore? Plus it’s also a cheap cash grab because human vocaloid covers get a lot of success which is why they added human characters. It’s almost all covers. The tuning is horrible as well like they don’t even try to make the vocaloids sounds decent… because it’s not about the vocaloids lol.
I lose five years of my life each time I see someone say "[vocaloid] from project sekai" or lump up vocaloid and project sekai together. I've seen someone call the upcoming proseka anime(?) a "miku anime". Project sekai has vocaloid but vocaloid does not necessarily have proseka, if that makes sense. TT Also, the tuning might be ass mainly cause of the NT voicebanks. But the tuning counts too.

I agree. It turns vocaloids into characters instead of concepts. I love seeing people's different takes, stories, etc. That's the appeal of vocaloid. The loosness is infinite. To boil it all down to. "Its 16" just destroys so much potential and creativity

Emu's lower pitch voice is so nice and refreshing to hear that it's pretty disappointing they keep making the VA to yell the lyrics instead of sing properly.
I'm honestly pretty okay with them pitching down the songs in most instances. It's usually to make it a more comfortable range for the human singers, and the alternative is emu in that recent queen cover...

I miss the kind of charm that the project f series had And? Ever since arcade came out in especially future tone. They just released the same game over and over as if project diva wasn't already dying when X was released. I might just sound bitter. The diva room was so cool! Mirai had something similar but I liked the lore that seemed to come with it and just being able to just hang out with them. Had a nice slice of life feel

No fr, I'm subscribed to a LOT of VocaPs, and Im used to seeing like a few new songs in my recommended and then try to go down a path using them to find more. Hell I rediscovered a producer I was afraid of due to his song about Cronus eating his kids (Babuchan !!!) and discovered more songs to be put onto my playlist to send to friends who want to get into it or want a decent compile of songs. Sure Rabbit Hole and Miku are good songs but Im sick of hearing them and seeing questions about recs like, back in the 2010s you would go through the related videos on TH-cam to find songs or recommendations from your friends if they were also into Vocaloid. It's never too late to find VocaPs and you don't need to be hand fed to find anything interesting. It's literally easy to start at a producer you like and then keep clicking on not familiar producers until you reach what you like !!

Your videos have a really special feel to me. I heard vocaloid a lot 10 jears ago but know nothing like you and its like a special time warp to watch your videos because i really liked the early 2010s.
I could not give a damn about the human proseka characters either because there’s so many things about them that feel so corporate (like Proseka in general) because you CANNOT be fr that the only people who have access to their own Miku are a bunch of 16 year olds from two seperate high schools. It makes even less sense when this game is trying to “be a celebration of Vocaloid” since a large chunk of producers are 20-30+ years old😭
To be fair, canonically there are many different SEKAIs we never get to see, so it's not like the cast are the only ones who get to have a pocket dimension in their phone. But honestly, I view prsk and vocaloid as two separate things and Miku is kind of just... there, I definitely wouldn't call the story much of a celebration of vocaloid either (This is coming from someone who loves a good chunk of the characters to death)

Just from my own experience trying to get into the story I kinda assumed the bigger idea of the narrative was about what it means to make music or being a musician, and if that was the case there could’ve been some diversity with the cast. YES!! These are the actual controversial opinions I love seeing people say, even though I don’t agree with all of them. Although I heavily agree with 5:05. High pitched Miku works for some songs but definitely not all the songs it’s used for. An example of it being used I like is Alien Alien. That high pitched voice is balanced out by the mixing and the instrumental so it works well. But I hate the way it’s used in Mesmerizer because both Miku and Teto jump between normal pitches to questionably tuned high pitches and it’s annoying as heck (also I just don’t like that song in general) For my other unpopular opinions: 1. I don’t mind DECO’s newer music at all. In fact I love it. Yes all of it has traces to where you can point it to the same producer, but saying it all sounds the same is a bit much. I can distinguish the melodies from each other instantly and appreciate the production. Heck Hao’s probably my second favorite Vocaloid song to come out this year (behind Language of the Lost by RIP). Also it’s not like other older producers’ music also doesn’t have a similar sound and some tracks come out mediocre (I can’t for the life of me think of the melody of any PinocchioP song that came out over the last year except for one). And Samfree did the exact same thing with his night series and I see no one giving him hate. 2. IA and Yukari are MID AS HECK. I also used to think the same about Luka, but I’ve seen some good tuning on her since and I’ve changed my mind about her. IA and Yukari on the other hand, sound like the most generic Japanese female voice banks of all time, doing nothing to stand out. 3. SynthV Teto > Utau Teto. Her Utau vb isn’t bad at all, but her SynthV voicebank is just so much higher quality and can be used in so many different ways that I like it so much more. Also she can still sound incredibly robotic like her Utau voicebank. Heck when I use her she sounds robotic cause I don’t know how to tune.
Your so true with Deco's music, Hao, Aitai alien and Parasite have all been my favorites out of his "recent songs" but they sound so similar once you realize it (theres a recent song sounding similar to Streaming Heart, Hao is Salamander lite, etc) that I lean towards streaming a lot of his older works and check out any new uploads once before deciding on liking or adding them to my song rotation.
Fully agree on Miku being high pitched. She can sing high but so many people tune her above range. The ONLY time it works imo is when Slave.V-V-R does it, and that’s because they’re used very sparingly (the scream in “eye.” for example) (Also my hottest take is that I prefer utauloids over vocaloids. There’s just so much more variety compared to vocaloid, both design-wise and in vocal range)

I don't hate any voice banks because I believe in tuning>voicebank. i can like any bank if the usage is good. the voice pitch up thing- with miku I usually find it passable. But I absolutely hate it when it's done with banks like Flower, kaito etc. Any voice bank that is clearly better in their intended range. But yeah...i heard empurple through a really good cevio cover first. I was so disappointed when I heard the original.
I personally hate when Vocaloids are given an age and why the fuck is it always 16 (I'm looking at you IA). Unless the Vocaloid is obviously a child like Gachapoid or Kaai Yuki for example, I think giving Vocaloids an age is fucking stupid and there's always some stupid fandom war when someone makes even the SLIGHTEST sugestive song 😒 It's genuinely so unnecessary. But yeah, I also hate the random canons. One of the things that makes Vocaloid so special is that these characters are just instruments that are pure blank slates, which you can use however you wish. Giving these characters some sort of canon out of nowhere and age kinda ruins the whole point.
NT ruined Vocaloid for me but it can easily be said that Sekai killed Diva and that's half of the reason why a lot of people hate it with the other half obviously being that they're an afterthought.

So uhh I see a lot of project sekai hate and I think a lot of the complaints are valid but as someone who LOVES project sekai but was into vocaloid way before I even knew it existed here my take. (This might be a little long) First the gameplay, I think the gameplay for pjsk is actually really good! There's no ads, you can play as much as you want without being stopped my some weird system that makes you use currency for energy or something, there's a TON of amazing songs to chose from and play, you can play the pjsk covers or original vocaloid versions, unlocking songs is super easy, the skill ceiling is super high but you can also just play casually and still have fun, and the gameplay is some of the best I've ever seen in a mobile rhythm game and I personally find it really fun. The visuals, I don't think I need to talk about this much, the game is graphically really good and the card arts are stunning, the character designs are also really nice. The story and characters in pjsk are very well written and fun to go through if you like visual novels at all, I am absolutely in love with a ton of the characters and honestly way to invested in some of the story, I'm not saying everyone has to like the story or characters, obviously it's just not the type of thing everyone is into and that's fine but I don't think its a valid reason to hate on the game because the characters and story are objectively good especially for a mobile rhythm game. Also the complaint about the vocaloids not being the main focus has always seemed silly to me, obviously some people go into it and are a little disappointed in the lack of vocaloid character focus but that's not what the game was meant to focus on in the first place, it was meant to be about the human characters. Now in all fairness there are a few problems like the gacha system and the biggest thing, the impact on the community. Now first of all I feel like hating on the game a ton and saying its bad just because of the people it brought into the community is dumb, sure you dont have to like the new people but the game itself is still good and there are lots of people who were already in the community and love the game (this game and these characters keep me sane), and there are also a lot of new people who do put in the effort to actually understand how vocaloid works and what it is and arent just oblivious, I've met a ton of awesome people from the pjsk community and I think despite the few negative things that may have come from it I dont think its valid to hate on the game in its entirety or just hate on anyone who enjoys the game simply for liking it
As someone who scoffed at the idea of ocs in vocaloid games and even mocked one of the groups. I ended up loving that group the most. But im still a vocaloid fan at the end of the day! I still collect mostly rin kagamine cards only and buy rin all the costumes! I like that you can choose to play the vocaloid version of songs and pretty much avoid any of the stories and ocs if you so desire. But trust me, its worth it to give it a check because some of the stories are so wild i didnt expect it to be in a game ever.
I don't like Vflower for the same reason that I also hate high pitched miku. I mean, she is supposed to have an "androgyne" voice so why most producers forces her to sing so high like she just inhale helium (or raspy like she smoked a whole pack of cigarettes in a row)?

The Project Sekai thing is so real. I tried so hard to get into it for some of my friends and stuff. The gameplay is okay but I can't really care about the OCs (the only ones I like are WxS because remind me of Hello Happy World from Bang Dream)

I remember when pjsk got announced and I was like super hyped bc it was a new rhythm game that featured vocaloid songs, and now that I’ve played it, it’s just ehhhh… like any other rhythm game I’ve played but with cryptonloids and other ppl I don’t care abt, I’ll never understand the appeal I’m afraid
I can't explain whether the gameplay part of Project Sekai has any appeal or not, but I can explain why the original characters have appeal. I think that the very beginning chapters of each band may seem kinda generic and boring, but once you push past them you'll start to understand the characters better, what drives them, their backstories and their thought processes. In my opinion, the development of the characters is very realistic and the characters are way more than their archetypes (this can especially be seen with the groups Wonderlands X Showtime and Nightchord at 25:00, but it also applies to the others). Also, the characters can definitely be relatable for a lot of people. As for the Vocaloids, it's true that they aren't the main part of the game, but I like the aspect of having different variations of the vocaloids in each sekai, each with different personality traits compared to their other variations, but still not too characterized that it defeats the whole purpose of Vocaloid. It's kinda like Vocaloid songs themselves, each having a different interpretation of the same character. I just wish the game was not a gacha game, but oh well.
I already read them all but I couldn't get engaged with any character nor I couldn't stay to play this game. It's just a typical anime school story with vocaloid.

Like do they have a scene where an adult beats a bunch of kids with lyrics such as "this is where you are Caucasian" right after telling one of them their basically aunt died and everyone in their life agreed not to tell them that she passed on and instead say shes touring overseas. I feel the main stories are pretty weak but the overall stories can be quite interesting. Perhaps its because i dont watch many slice of life genre animes as i prefer more supernatural themes. I will say though, i feel like sega refuses to write actual vocaloid stories because cfm doesnt want there to be an "offcial" story so producers can still produce whatever they want. Its a shame because it would have been fun to see a story similar to the project diva theme song mvs

Here's an unpopular and maybe controversial opinion : I'm not too upset that project sekai "replaced" Project diva. Now now, hear me out, I love diva so much, it's what got me into vocaloid and I would play it over sekai. But the thing is, the diva games have been getting kinda boring and it's all mostly future tone ports and the reason why it's not as popular anymore is because it's mostly the same thing now and there isn't really an incentive now, they're not trying anything really new about it and the game feels outdated to other rhythm games. Like the songs in the diva series is almost the same and there's not really any new songs which is why it feels outdated. Project sekai though feels fresh and new to me, cause it have much better song lists imo and what I think the series need. I still kinda wish they would do this with diva instead of making a completely different game, but it's okay and I've warmed up to sekai. This is coming from an older vocaloid fan
V flower is one of my absolute favorite, so it was quite shocking hearing that maybe people didn't like her voice 🥲. But I kinda get it, I didn't like Kafu at the start, I can accept her voice now because of the many good song producers made for her.

I had to force myself to read the group stories in project sekai. I’ve been playing for pretty much a year and I’ve only read 2/5 group stories. I’m going to do more more jumps next but that’s probably going to take me another 2 months before I get to it :D.
Honestly, I'd recommend skipping the "Main stories" for now (That title is so misleading, it's literally just a prologue) because it does not really do the characters justice and makes them seem more 2-dimensional. One of the weakest parts of prsk's story in my opinion is the start (I didn't care about any of the characters until I read "On this blank canvas, I paint", which made me give the story another try (The events do get better later on in in general, haven't read much past 3rd Anniversary, though)). You don't have to if you don't want to, though, of course, that's just my take on it. (Also, I believe the story is 200+ hours long at this point, so you don't have to read everything unless you want to and you're very dedicated)
I think the best way to experience the game is to read the main story and then the immediate next two subsequent stories because my god they get so much better

Very based opinions. I have been a vocafan since 2011, I honestly think I am stuck in the 2011-15 vocaloid era 😂 maybe its driven by the nostalgia. A lot if songs nowadays, include tinnitus level high pitched miku a lot of Landmine girl esque themes. Samey sounding instrumentals. I stick to listening to the old classics. I forced myself into playing Project Sekai. It was boring and felt very corporate, removed from the heart of Vocaloid- which largely is individual producers making beloved songs from there rooms or on a smaller scale. Psekai just gives me the ick. I am not so much part of the online fandom anymore as my journey with vocaloid feels far removed from a lot of the ppl in the current fandom space. I feel like an old lady 😆 The fact that the same nonsense about shipping instruments and the misinformation about what canon still goes on today...its exhausting. I used to be an avid Rin Len shipper as a teenager, and I think some would spontaneously combust at that 😂 I sound like an elitist lmao😭 but truly its very different now

the thing about the Megamix shader is that it CAN look really nice. There are a lot of cool fanmade mods that make the shader look good. I have no idea how the devs could mess up this bad because the issue is literally just bad lighting in the PVs. Heck, even I could fix it by simply using some sliders and it shows what a cashgrab Megamix truly was. There was absolutely no effort

i have a prosekai spinterest, but i honestly agree with a lot of what you said about it. i downloaded the game in december 2021, but it wasnt until like late 2022 or early 2023 that i started caring about it/the human characters. i think the problem is that if you go into it with the mindset of “i’m just here for the vocaloids,” you’re going to be disappointed, like i was. but when i was like “okay these characters are cute, i’ll check them out,” THATS when i got into the game. but the characters arent for everyone, especially since you Have to read a bunch to understand them, so if you don’t care about the unit members or the gameplay, i would sit this one out
i get the hate on anamanaguchi miku bc it can be annoying but i have such a caring for this song. I was a hardcore vocaloid fan in 2013-2015 but i stopped listening to some years ago, and now when i first heard the Miku ooo eee ooo song i felt like: Ohh, i know you, i loved you, i listened to you, i miss you, i am so glad you still exist and is still relevant, i want to go back listening to your songs. And i felt embraced by Miku. I know its cringe but i kinda needed that virtual hug bc Miku saved my life back in the old days and she continues to be there for me and releasing new songs. The line "I'm on top of the world because of you" hits me so hard bc i can feel her being thankful to me as i am to her. I do respect you guys' oppinion but i kinda don't want this song to be hated only for being repetitive and/or annoying, it kinda opens up a new era to Vocaloid for me and shows Miku is still relevant, she is still the future, thanks to us

I kinda get why they made VY1's & VY2's design kinda plain since they're supposed to be the standard Japanese male and female vocal for V3 & V4. Still, it would have been nice if they had like a Geisha/Kunoichi and Samurai theme because of their OG boxarts. Or they could've tried collabing with the artists of the famous fan designs. I hate that they made IA's age 16. Why do almost all Vocaloids have to be teens? I get that many idols start out as teens, but it would be nice to have more adult characters like Luka or Meiko. Making them teens just cause a bunch of drama nowadays when they sing even slightly sexual songs.

People aren't buying them for the designs, they're buying them for the voice.
Nobody has ever bought VY1V4 because she's a bunch of colourful instruments in the shape of a fan, they buy her because she is versatile and realistic for 2015 standards.
It's the same reason why the V5 and V6 standard voicebanks are visually unappealing too, because it's meant to put emphasis on the voice and not the design.

Aaahhhggg is just too real... I was used to describe the Luka's voice as Mature and soft, I really liked how the producers put their emotions in the robot, making it feel alive, and emotive, but I don't know why, I can't feel the same with SP, it doesn't feel that deep... And is like it was singing a copy of the software or some kind of AI, and sometimes I feel it annoying as Meiko's voice, I didn't really gave her a try because I always heard a very nasal sound that I hate it, but when I heard "Break it, Break it" I was really surprised by how good it sounded for me, that image of Meiko that I had completely faded, and today I'm trying more songs to see if It's really a really good vocal, or it was a very talented producer saving her.
PD: The Luka's English in SP is the queen of the biggest ***** in this universe, completely horrible, she was supposed to be the vocaloid to connect the world, not confuse it with the weird speech!!!! 😭

project sekai is BIG CONTROVERSIAL but i think the biggest thing about it is that some vocaloid fans, especially old vocaloid fans, go into it thinking it will be a vocaloid thing. and….its really not. it’s a good game imo!! but the vocaloids are side characters, NOT the main focus. and if people accepted that (like you did, realizing that the human characters weren’t interesting to you and so the game wasn’t for you), we’d all be better off

Some producers do it well and other times they flop (like the Harumaki Gohan example here, I like Dinner Bell and Meltyland Nightmare but other songs I listen to his self covers) hard that it makes it unbearable to me. Theres a few other vocaloids I dont really like their high pitch (Kaito, Luka) but I will tolerate it if its decent

I like it more than the Future Tone toon shader. I think the Mega Mix shader works for songs like Two-Faced Lovers and Catch the Wave etc but overall it doesn’t fit most songs. I’m used to it now though since I have Mega Mix and all it’s DLC as I didn’t have a PS4 at the time and my laptop cannot handle Mega Mix+ lmao
I don’t mind the bright colors or textures usually. Probably because I prefer brighter colors personally. But I hate it on more mature songs/songs with darker backgrounds it just feels like she got green screened and stands out too much 😞

Project Sekai dislike is so real. Like do I like some of the other characters now and like that it is exposing more people to vocaloid? Yes. Do I like that they cover iconic vocaloid songs and now so many people say they like the song while trashing the original vocaloid version? Hell no. The only time i prefer the Sekai version of songs is when the tuning in the original is god awful (i am looking at you balloon). And the fact that SEGA is focusing more on project sekai than making new and better project diva games pisses me off.

I completely agree with you. I like Project Sekai and I do see the positives like bringing retired producers back for an original song and such or exposing more people to Vocaloid. Heck, the only times I ever show up is to read up on characters I do like or to farm gems/get the cards I really want. But you're right about it having major criticisms. For example, I don't like the rewards all that much. They give you so little. And even though I said I show up to farm, at times it can be really tedious and boring and can really burn you out(at least for me anyway). The one thing that makes me so salty for Project Sekai, is that it genuinely makes wish there should be a Vocaloid game where ALL Vocaloids show up and interact with each other. I'm sure there's hurdles and such but hey a person can dream right? lol.
I have to say that I hate some of the VS versions of the songs (looking at you, Cinema), so I get why people prefer Sekai versions, as some of the tuning of original version can be questionable at least.
On the other hand, I can't still comprehend, how some VS versions sound way more emotional than the Sekai versions (Len's Lost one's weeping and Pulse of the meteor).
Like, if they can hire someone to make a cover for them with high quality tuning like Cillia and some producers (Miku's Tricologe), then why do some new covers sound trash even after almost 4 years of the game?!
Thankfully, Meiko sounds better now than in older covers. At least she gets more representation in Sekai than in all of Diva game history, which I really like.

Ill be honest, trashing on the vocaloid version is more a fandom problem. It would have been perfect if we took the covers AS COVERS, just like we do with for example Vocaloid Gumi and Synthv Gumi, or Utau Teto and Synthv Teto, theyre NOT tryna overwrite the old, theyre OPTIONS but some ppl cant see that. I think Project Sekai is amazing, the part of the fandom that doesnt care abt vocaloid itself SUCK ass.
Something I dislike in the community is that people have crazy low standards with Crypton when it comes to Meiko and Kaito. I hate that the human characters ended up being more important to the game and its fandom than the vocaloids themselves and it spawned this new genre of vocaloid fans who think they're vocaloid fans without actually knowing what a vocaloid even is. My hot take is that projsekai is genuinely ruining people’s perception of vocaloid, like they think crypton vocaloids have certain personality traits/stories which was almost never the case before the game. And the fact that THE vocaloids that the game is about appear very little in the game, they don’t play a major role so is it really a vocaloid game anymore?
Plus it’s also a cheap cash grab because human vocaloid covers get a lot of success which is why they added human characters. It’s almost all covers. The tuning is horrible as well like they don’t even try to make the vocaloids sounds decent… because it’s not about the vocaloids lol.

The focus is definitely way less on the vocaloid, they're more so plot machines, but I do genuinely like the story, especially WxS and Niigo, and I'm into rhythm games

Ever since arcade came out in especially future tone. They just released the same game over and over as if project diva wasn't already dying when X was released. I might just sound bitter. The diva room was so cool! Mirai had something similar but I liked the lore that seemed to come with it and just being able to just hang out with them. Had a nice slice of life feel

No fr, I'm subscribed to a LOT of VocaPs, and Im used to seeing like a few new songs in my recommended and then try to go down a path using them to find more. Hell I rediscovered a producer I was afraid of due to his song about Cronus eating his kids (Babuchan !!!) and discovered more songs to be put onto my playlist to send to friends who want to get into it or want a decent compile of songs. Sure Rabbit Hole and Miku are good songs but Im sick of hearing them and seeing questions about recs like, back in the 2010s you would go through the related videos on TH-cam to find songs or recommendations from your friends if they were also into Vocaloid. It's never too late to find VocaPs and you don't need to be hand fed to find anything interesting. It's literally easy to start at a producer you like and then keep clicking on not familiar producers until you reach what you like !!

Your videos have a really special feel to me. I heard vocaloid a lot 10 jears ago but know nothing like you and its like a special time warp to watch your videos because i really liked the early 2010s.
I could not give a damn about the human proseka characters either because there’s so many things about them that feel so corporate (like Proseka in general) because you CANNOT be fr that the only people who have access to their own Miku are a bunch of 16 year olds from two seperate high schools. It makes even less sense when this game is trying to “be a celebration of Vocaloid” since a large chunk of producers are 20-30+ years old😭
To be fair, canonically there are many different SEKAIs we never get to see, so it's not like the cast are the only ones who get to have a pocket dimension in their phone. But honestly, I view prsk and vocaloid as two separate things and Miku is kind of just... there, I definitely wouldn't call the story much of a celebration of vocaloid either (This is coming from someone who loves a good chunk of the characters to death)

YES!! These are the actual controversial opinions I love seeing people say, even though I don’t agree with all of them.
Although I heavily agree with 5:05. High pitched Miku works for some songs but definitely not all the songs it’s used for. An example of it being used I like is Alien Alien. That high pitched voice is balanced out by the mixing and the instrumental so it works well. But I hate the way it’s used in Mesmerizer because both Miku and Teto jump between normal pitches to questionably tuned high pitches and it’s annoying as heck (also I just don’t like that song in general)
For my other unpopular opinions:
1. I don’t mind DECO’s newer music at all. In fact I love it. Yes all of it has traces to where you can point it to the same producer, but saying it all sounds the same is a bit much. I can distinguish the melodies from each other instantly and appreciate the production. Heck Hao’s probably my second favorite Vocaloid song to come out this year (behind Language of the Lost by RIP). Also it’s not like other older producers’ music also doesn’t have a similar sound and some tracks come out mediocre (I can’t for the life of me think of the melody of any PinocchioP song that came out over the last year except for one). And Samfree did the exact same thing with his night series and I see no one giving him hate.
2. IA and Yukari are MID AS HECK. I also used to think the same about Luka, but I’ve seen some good tuning on her since and I’ve changed my mind about her. IA and Yukari on the other hand, sound like the most generic Japanese female voice banks of all time, doing nothing to stand out.
3. SynthV Teto > Utau Teto. Her Utau vb isn’t bad at all, but her SynthV voicebank is just so much higher quality and can be used in so many different ways that I like it so much more. Also she can still sound incredibly robotic like her Utau voicebank. Heck when I use her she sounds robotic cause I don’t know how to tune.
Your so true with Deco's music, Hao, Aitai alien and Parasite have all been my favorites out of his "recent songs" but they sound so similar once you realize it (theres a recent song sounding similar to Streaming Heart, Hao is Salamander lite, etc) that I lean towards streaming a lot of his older works and check out any new uploads once before deciding on liking or adding them to my song rotation.

Fully agree on Miku being high pitched. She can sing high but so many people tune her above range. The ONLY time it works imo is when Slave.V-V-R does it, and that’s because they’re used very sparingly (the scream in “eye.” for example)

the voice pitch up thing- with miku I usually find it passable. But I absolutely hate it when it's done with banks like Flower, kaito etc. Any voice bank that is clearly better in their intended range.

Unless the Vocaloid is obviously a child like Gachapoid or Kaai Yuki for example, I think giving Vocaloids an age is fucking stupid and there's always some stupid fandom war when someone makes even the SLIGHTEST sugestive song 😒 It's genuinely so unnecessary. But yeah, I also hate the random canons. One of the things that makes Vocaloid so special is that these characters are just instruments that are pure blank slates, which you can use however you wish. Giving these characters some sort of canon out of nowhere and age kinda ruins the whole point.

So uhh I see a lot of project sekai hate and I think a lot of the complaints are valid but as someone who LOVES project sekai but was into vocaloid way before I even knew it existed here my take. (This might be a little long)
First the gameplay, I think the gameplay for pjsk is actually really good! There's no ads, you can play as much as you want without being stopped my some weird system that makes you use currency for energy or something, there's a TON of amazing songs to chose from and play, you can play the pjsk covers or original vocaloid versions, unlocking songs is super easy, the skill ceiling is super high but you can also just play casually and still have fun, and the gameplay is some of the best I've ever seen in a mobile rhythm game and I personally find it really fun.
The visuals, I don't think I need to talk about this much, the game is graphically really good and the card arts are stunning, the character designs are also really nice.
The story and characters in pjsk are very well written and fun to go through if you like visual novels at all, I am absolutely in love with a ton of the characters and honestly way to invested in some of the story, I'm not saying everyone has to like the story or characters, obviously it's just not the type of thing everyone is into and that's fine but I don't think its a valid reason to hate on the game because the characters and story are objectively good especially for a mobile rhythm game. Also the complaint about the vocaloids not being the main focus has always seemed silly to me, obviously some people go into it and are a little disappointed in the lack of vocaloid character focus but that's not what the game was meant to focus on in the first place, it was meant to be about the human characters.
Now in all fairness there are a few problems like the gacha system and the biggest thing, the impact on the community. Now first of all I feel like hating on the game a ton and saying its bad just because of the people it brought into the community is dumb, sure you dont have to like the new people but the game itself is still good and there are lots of people who were already in the community and love the game (this game and these characters keep me sane), and there are also a lot of new people who do put in the effort to actually understand how vocaloid works and what it is and arent just oblivious, I've met a ton of awesome people from the pjsk community and I think despite the few negative things that may have come from it I dont think its valid to hate on the game in its entirety or just hate on anyone who enjoys the game simply for liking it
As someone who scoffed at the idea of ocs in vocaloid games and even mocked one of the groups. I ended up loving that group the most. But im still a vocaloid fan at the end of the day! I still collect mostly rin kagamine cards only and buy rin all the costumes! I like that you can choose to play the vocaloid version of songs and pretty much avoid any of the stories and ocs if you so desire. But trust me, its worth it to give it a check because some of the stories are so wild i didnt expect it to be in a game ever.
I don't like Vflower for the same reason that I also hate high pitched miku.
I mean, she is supposed to have an "androgyne" voice so why most producers forces her to sing so high like she just inhale helium (or raspy like she smoked a whole pack of cigarettes in a row)?

The Project Sekai thing is so real. I tried so hard to get into it for some of my friends and stuff. The gameplay is okay but I can't really care about the OCs (the only ones I like are WxS because remind me of Hello Happy World from Bang Dream)

I remember when pjsk got announced and I was like super hyped bc it was a new rhythm game that featured vocaloid songs, and now that I’ve played it, it’s just ehhhh… like any other rhythm game I’ve played but with cryptonloids and other ppl I don’t care abt, I’ll never understand the appeal I’m afraid
I can't explain whether the gameplay part of Project Sekai has any appeal or not, but I can explain why the original characters have appeal. I think that the very beginning chapters of each band may seem kinda generic and boring, but once you push past them you'll start to understand the characters better, what drives them, their backstories and their thought processes. In my opinion, the development of the characters is very realistic and the characters are way more than their archetypes (this can especially be seen with the groups Wonderlands X Showtime and Nightchord at 25:00, but it also applies to the others). Also, the characters can definitely be relatable for a lot of people. As for the Vocaloids, it's true that they aren't the main part of the game, but I like the aspect of having different variations of the vocaloids in each sekai, each with different personality traits compared to their other variations, but still not too characterized that it defeats the whole purpose of Vocaloid. It's kinda like Vocaloid songs themselves, each having a different interpretation of the same character. I just wish the game was not a gacha game, but oh well.
I already read them all but I couldn't get engaged with any character nor I couldn't stay to play this game. It's just a typical anime school story with vocaloid.

I feel the main stories are pretty weak but the overall stories can be quite interesting. Perhaps its because i dont watch many slice of life genre animes as i prefer more supernatural themes.
I will say though, i feel like sega refuses to write actual vocaloid stories because cfm doesnt want there to be an "offcial" story so producers can still produce whatever they want. Its a shame because it would have been fun to see a story similar to the project diva theme song mvs

Here's an unpopular and maybe controversial opinion : I'm not too upset that project sekai "replaced" Project diva. Now now, hear me out, I love diva so much, it's what got me into vocaloid and I would play it over sekai. But the thing is, the diva games have been getting kinda boring and it's all mostly future tone ports and the reason why it's not as popular anymore is because it's mostly the same thing now and there isn't really an incentive now, they're not trying anything really new about it and the game feels outdated to other rhythm games. Like the songs in the diva series is almost the same and there's not really any new songs which is why it feels outdated. Project sekai though feels fresh and new to me, cause it have much better song lists imo and what I think the series need. I still kinda wish they would do this with diva instead of making a completely different game, but it's okay and I've warmed up to sekai. This is coming from an older vocaloid fan

I had to force myself to read the group stories in project sekai. I’ve been playing for pretty much a year and I’ve only read 2/5 group stories. I’m going to do more more jumps next but that’s probably going to take me another 2 months before I get to it :D.
Honestly, I'd recommend skipping the "Main stories" for now (That title is so misleading, it's literally just a prologue) because it does not really do the characters justice and makes them seem more 2-dimensional. One of the weakest parts of prsk's story in my opinion is the start (I didn't care about any of the characters until I read "On this blank canvas, I paint", which made me give the story another try (The events do get better later on in in general, haven't read much past 3rd Anniversary, though)).
You don't have to if you don't want to, though, of course, that's just my take on it.
(Also, I believe the story is 200+ hours long at this point, so you don't have to read everything unless you want to and you're very dedicated)
I think the best way to experience the game is to read the main story and then the immediate next two subsequent stories because my god they get so much better

Very based opinions. I have been a vocafan since 2011, I honestly think I am stuck in the 2011-15 vocaloid era 😂 maybe its driven by the nostalgia. A lot if songs nowadays, include tinnitus level high pitched miku a lot of Landmine girl esque themes. Samey sounding instrumentals. I stick to listening to the old classics.
I forced myself into playing Project Sekai. It was boring and felt very corporate, removed from the heart of Vocaloid- which largely is individual producers making beloved songs from there rooms or on a smaller scale. Psekai just gives me the ick.

the thing about the Megamix shader is that it CAN look really nice. There are a lot of cool fanmade mods that make the shader look good. I have no idea how the devs could mess up this bad because the issue is literally just bad lighting in the PVs. Heck, even I could fix it by simply using some sliders and it shows what a cashgrab Megamix truly was. There was absolutely no effort
I'll tell you why they couldn't do better: Sega is lazy, I mean, just look Odds&Ends in the trailer, the lighting looked better.

i have a prosekai spinterest, but i honestly agree with a lot of what you said about it. i downloaded the game in december 2021, but it wasnt until like late 2022 or early 2023 that i started caring about it/the human characters. i think the problem is that if you go into it with the mindset of “i’m just here for the vocaloids,” you’re going to be disappointed, like i was. but when i was like “okay these characters are cute, i’ll check them out,” THATS when i got into the game. but the characters arent for everyone, especially since you Have to read a bunch to understand them, so if you don’t care about the unit members or the gameplay, i would sit this one out

i get the hate on anamanaguchi miku bc it can be annoying but i have such a caring for this song. I was a hardcore vocaloid fan in 2013-2015 but i stopped listening to some years ago, and now when i first heard the Miku ooo eee ooo song i felt like: Ohh, i know you, i loved you, i listened to you, i miss you, i am so glad you still exist and is still relevant, i want to go back listening to your songs. And i felt embraced by Miku. I know its cringe but i kinda needed that virtual hug bc Miku saved my life back in the old days and she continues to be there for me and releasing new songs. The line "I'm on top of the world because of you" hits me so hard bc i can feel her being thankful to me as i am to her. I do respect you guys' oppinion but i kinda don't want this song to be hated only for being repetitive and/or annoying, it kinda opens up a new era to Vocaloid for me and shows Miku is still relevant, she is still the future, thanks to us

I hate that they made IA's age 16. Why do almost all Vocaloids have to be teens? I get that many idols start out as teens, but it would be nice to have more adult characters like Luka or Meiko. Making them teens just cause a bunch of drama nowadays when they sing even slightly sexual songs.
