This caller went full James O'Brien... on James O'Brien

  • This is the moment a caller phoned into James O'Brien to talk about taking pictures of your meal... and went full James O'Brien on him.
    Heston Blumenthal has criticised diners who take photos of their food for Instagram instead of simply enjoying it.
    James agreed with the experimental chef, causing Jonathan to call in from Leeds - and that's when things got very entertaining.
    Jonathan explained to James that people have the right to enjoy the look of a meal before tucking in and talked about how a Heston meal is all about an experience that hits on all your senses.
    He said: "Capturing a picture and sharing it retrospectively, there's nothing wrong with that.

    Admittedly its not the most interesting subject but it is one of the few times that both sides of the conversation are intelligent and their arguments are well founded. Rare to see James taken down, but you have to hand it to him he took it on board and ended up possibly changing his position. Not a common event at all for anyone these days. Now can we get back to poking fun at the imbecils?

    I loved this debate, passionate but not rude, and I appreciate James being so honest and admitting where he might have and might be wrong, that takes a special kind of person, but I think it's also just as much a testament to the caller, because a passionate debate like this that is void of animosity is essential for someone to admit their wrongs or potential wrong like that. I realize this is more than 2 years old now and a small portion of people will ever see this... ... but this is how you talk and debate someone and expand both of your understandings of a subject and if possible this is the type of debate you want to have when talking about important political topics, try not to rise to any bait that is thrown at you, because it is, unfortunately, very likely that they will attempt to bait you into getting made and developing animosity towards them which will only cause them to gain animosity towards you, if you ignore their bait they do not gain any animosity because it is a defense mechanism that they have been conditioned to have due to what they see on the media, which is 90% animosity (well in the U.S. it is at least)
    As a side note, I realize that I made it sound easy to not take the animosity bait, it isn't I fall for it *far* more than I would like, but the times I haven't taken that bait I have changed minds on topics, or at least expanded their view and how they see the issue, and while they may not be completely on my side they are closer to my side than they were previously, without going into too much detail an example would be a avid Trump supporter I talked to specifically about the tax cut he and Republicans passed in 2017, she baited me right out the gate, I changed the subject to the why I had my stance, and the statistical and factual information I had, I also appealed to her logic (yes they have that, and thats what is worrisome.) before I left I asked her again about the topic and she agreed that at the very least there needs to be more tax brackets in the U.S. because someone earning 300k shouldn't be paying the same amount in taxes as Jeff Bezos (who was the 'wealthiest' man at the time.

    James said that unintentionally he has a photo of the meal his had with his other half on their anniversary. Maybe today he feels no need to have that photo, but what about it ten years' time? Smells and tastes often stay with us for life; just the other day a woman pushed past me on the bus and I got a noseful of her perfume, identical to one an girlfriend of my youth would wear and it whisked me back 30 years in a flash. I'm sure many of us have felt transported in time on tasting something from our childhoods. So in ten years' time, that accidental photograph of a meaningful and pertinent moment in his life could vibrate with emotion and sentiment.

      @attackpatterndelta8949 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There is a subtle difference. It takes a split second to take a photo of a meal, and then enjoy it. People going to gigs and concerts will very often spend long periods of time filming them, and so are not present in the moment.
      Taking a quick photo of food doesn’t really bother anyone. Filming a live music event can often be distracting for the other people attending.
