      Hey, I’m so glad the video helped lift your spirits! Goalkeeping is such a rollercoaster - it’s totally normal to have ups and downs, especially when you're adjusting to a new club. The key is to keep believing in yourself and learning from every game. Everyone has tough patches, but the fact that you’re reflecting and working on it shows your dedication. Keep pushing, and you’ll bounce back stronger than ever. Wishing you all the best for your journey, brother - keep making those saves! 🧤⚽🔥

      i had this issue everytime i join a new team especially when your trying to make friends etc, what helped me was just start with praising and if you can talking to one of your defenders mainly your main defender who is in charge of keeping the line, and before you know it your calling to everyone as you open up more, the worst thing you can do is spot a striker on your defenders shoulder that he hasn't noticed and they come in for an easy goal cus your defender doesn't follow them when they make a run, so a gk its our main job to be screaming "man on" as we see all the pitch at all times

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      Yes, that's something we need to change. And you've already made the first step by admitting it. I would start small, f.x. with "good job", "well done", "come again", "man on" and gradually build on from there. On one hand, nobody wants a keeper who doesn't talk at all, but on the other hand, nobody wants a keeper who SHOUT ALL THE TIME especially if it's negative. It's about finding that balance just in between.

    Great video. Just learned about this channel. I always knew I had some talent in goalkeeping but was scared to do it on an actual football pitch so instead played in midfield or defend and I was always struggling with the role.
    2 weeks ago I decided to stand on the goal line and I never regretted my decision since.
    It might be a hard position to play and I might still be a noobie but it is the easiest role I played and I love every second of it.

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question! First off, it’s completely normal to feel unsure about positioning - it’s one of the most important aspects of goalkeeping, and even experienced keepers refine it over time. Constantly looking back can disrupt your focus, but don’t worry - it’s something you can improve with practice.

    Can you make a video on when you is it appropriate to make a fist to deflect or parry balls and when to extend fingers? I haven't seen many videos talking about this when making saves. I also see some keepers clench their fists when landing after making a high dive. Is it to protect the latex? Or is it to protect their fingers?

      Hey man. That's a great video idea, actually. And you're right. I haven't seen a video about that either. A pro tip is to use your lower palm to deflect the ball away. You have much more control than if you use your fist. P.s. I never use my fist to save the ball. :)

    My worst habit when playing is before the shot even goes off I tend to drop down to one or both knees and it worked for a while because people tried to drive it low and hard but I would be there. Now they’ve learned and started shooting high and while most shots go above the goal more shots are going in. I’ve tried to stop this habit but it’s hard to break. Any advice would be great.
    I’m not a young goal keeper but I’m new to it, used to play defense now I’ve moved to goalie cuz my old job ruined my knees so it’s hard to run but I can still play goalie at a pretty moderate to high level, but if you have any advise on my bad habit would be greatly appreciate it

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey buddy... :)
      That’s a super common habit, especially for keepers who are used to dealing with low shots! The issue is that dropping too early takes away your ability to react to high shots, which opponents are now exploiting.
      Here’s how to fix it:
      1. Stay on Your Feet Longer - Try to hold your stance as long as possible before reacting. If you drop too early, you give the shooter an easy target.
      2. Read the Shooter - Watch their body shape, their plant foot, and how they approach the ball. If their chest is leaning back, it's likely a high shot.
      3. Focus on a Compact Ready Position - Keep your weight forward on the balls of your feet, knees slightly bent, and hands in a neutral position so you can react up or down.
      4. Film Yourself - If possible, record some training or games to catch when and why you’re dropping early. Self-awareness is key to breaking habits!
      Keep working on this, and you’ll be able to hold your ground longer and react to both low and high shots effectively. 💪🧤

    my weakness is getting scared im actually not a bad goalkeeper but everytime i do a 1v1 save a player has to fall and i always want to check if the person is fine or not im always worried of injuring others like its a fear that cant be taken away off me for like 2 years i have been feeling this fear i am trying my best to switch it and change it have any tips?

      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I totally understand where you're coming from - it's natural to worry about injuring others, especially in 1v1 situations where things can get physical. But as a goalkeeper, it’s important to strike a balance between being safe and staying focused on the play. Here are some tips to help you manage that fear:
      Focus on technique: In 1v1 situations, using the right technique can reduce the chance of injuring yourself or others. Stay low, spread your body wide, and focus on making the save while minimizing the risk of contact.
      Stay confident: Remind yourself that you’re playing fairly and with good intentions. Contact is part of the game, but as long as you’re playing within the rules, you don’t need to feel guilty or overly worried.
      Quick checks after the play: Once the play is over and the ball is cleared, you can always check on the player to see if they’re okay. Just don’t let it distract you during the save itself.
      Remember, fear is natural, but the more you face it, the easier it becomes to manage. Keep practicing, and you’ll build the confidence to handle these situations without letting the fear take over.
      You’ve got this! 💪⚽🧤

    Worst thing I do is not stretch before the match. It then takes me half the match to get up to speed and be effective potentially costing us points

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I hear you - skipping the stretch can definitely make a big difference in how you feel during the game. Stretching helps you loosen up and get your body ready to react right from the start. Try building a quick pre-match routine that includes dynamic stretches and a bit of movement to get your blood flowing. You’ll feel more in the zone from the first whistle and save those valuable points!
      It’s a simple fix, but it’ll make a huge impact! 💪⚽

    Hi, I wanted to ask if you have any tips for reading the attackers body language because I am currently playing my first season at senior level. I played youth football at a higher level (3rd tier of German youth football), so I was lucky to get all the technique teached. But for some reason I have a hard time especially at low dives because I always feel surprised about how fast the shot is and how far in the corner it goes. I conceded a couple goals so far I personally think I could have saved. Do you recommend Reaction thrills, because I was thinking about that but I’m not quite sure how to fix it 😅

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey :)
      First of all, have you watched my low diving video? If not, it's here: th-cam.com/video/dP8D2VxWjhI/w-d-xo.html
      As for reading attackers' body language, one key thing is to watch their hips and plant foot. The hips usually give away the direction they're aiming for, and the plant foot can tell you where the shot is going - most players point it toward the target.
      About feeling surprised by the speed and placement, it's super common as the senior game moves faster. It’s all about adjusting to the new pace. Reaction drills can definitely help you build those quick-twitch muscles, but you should also work on anticipating shots better by reading cues from the attacker.
      Focus on your positioning too. If you're a step ahead with your positioning, you won’t need to rely as much on lightning-fast reactions. Combine that with reaction training, and you'll start seeing improvements for those low dives into the corners.
      One final tip, if you're defenders are covering one side, you should always aim to cover the other. I'm not telling you dive early but be "more ready" on that side. I've broken down positioning in this video: th-cam.com/video/nWAV9OHcRoY/w-d-xo.html
      Let me know how it goes! :)

    I am a good goalkeeper for my age, but even though I jump against fast balls coming from the air, when I try to hold the ball up, my hands and arms run away. How can I solve this?

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I get it - those fast, high balls can be tough to control, especially when they come in with a lot of power. Here’s how you can improve your handling and make those saves feel more solid:
      Strengthen your grip: Building grip strength is essential for keeping control of fast balls. Try exercises like squeezing a stress ball, using a grip strengthener, or doing finger and wrist curls with light weights. This will give you more stability when the ball hits your hands.
      Lock in your hand position: Focus on getting your hands in a "W" shape (thumbs together, fingers spread) behind the ball. This position helps absorb the force and reduces the chance of the ball slipping through.
      Keep your body behind the ball: When you jump, make sure you’re not just reaching with your arms. Get your body behind the ball as much as possible-this way, if your hands don’t fully hold it, your body can still block it.
      Focus on catching technique: Work on “soft hands” by cushioning the ball into your grip rather than holding your hands stiffly. This helps absorb the impact and gives you better control.
      Practice with reaction drills: Have a partner or use a wall to simulate fast, high balls coming at you. The more you practice, the more comfortable you’ll get with controlling powerful shots.
      Stick with these tips, and you’ll feel more in control and confident with those high balls. Keep at it! 💪🧤⚽

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You won't be able to catch every ball. Not even close. No one does that. The point of the tip is to try and catch the ball whenever you can, especially in training, to build your habits. If the striker is close and they're shooting hard, don't even try to catch it in matches :)

      This is probably going to be a really, really boring answer. But you just have to train more. Train your diving. Find a soft pitch or even a bed and keep diving until you get the technique right. One thing that helped a lot was to record myself. This way I could look at how I was diving to my better side and then try and do the same to my weaker side.
      And with your catching. You really shouldn't be depending on your gloves, if I'm being honest. You should be so good at catching that you should be able to catch the ball without any gloves. Did you watch my catching video, btw? There are some great techniques and drills in that video.

But keep training, keep getting better, and the better you get the less afraid you'll be. Also, start small, have someone shoot "not-so-hard" shots at you in the beginning and then gradually increase the shot power. • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, I totally get where you're coming from!
      For the leaning back and getting height but no power - focus on driving through the ball with your hips and body. Leaning back can help with height, but you need to combine it with forward momentum to add power. Try to stay balanced and drive through the ball with your entire body, not just your legs.
      For 1v1s, rushing out can be tricky, but a general rule is to close the gap when the attacker is still a bit further away and hasn’t completely set themselves for a shot. The closer they get, the less reaction time you’ll have, so being proactive helps.
      Here’s a quick breakdown:
      Spread: Use this when the attacker is very close and looks like they’ll try to slip the ball past you. Try to use it centrally because it covers more space and forces them to make a difficult decision.
      Block: Do this when the ball is in close from an angle. It doesn't cover as much as the spread but you have a bit more control because you don't overcommit.
      The key is staying calm and reading the situation. The more you practice, the more natural it will become. Don’t worry if it feels tough at first - every keeper struggles with this at some point!

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! Wanting to throw the ball out quickly shows that you’re focused on keeping the game moving, which is awesome. But your coach has a point too - sometimes holding onto the ball for a moment is the smarter play. Here’s why:
      Balance and positioning: Waiting a few seconds allows your teammates to get back into position. This makes it easier for your team to keep control and build a stronger attack.
      Avoiding risky throws: Quick throws can sometimes catch your teammates off guard or lead to turnovers. By waiting, you can make a better, safer decision on where to distribute the ball.
      Situational awareness: Sometimes, quick distribution is perfect, especially if you see a teammate with a clear advantage. But if your team needs to regroup, it’s best to take your time.
      Both approaches have their place, so try to find a balance based on the situation. And don’t worry about the spelling - you explained it perfectly! Keep up the great work! 💪🧤⚽

      I really, really like them. I think they're really good in wet conditions. It's very much of an all-conditions glove. But obviously, these are the best AFFORDABLE gloves I've ever tried. Not the BEST gloves I've ever tried. Know what I mean? I mainly use them for training and in some matches. I've talked to the owner, and he says that he has an update on its way - a more high-end glove but for a much lower price than other high-end gloves.
      The thing I like about this brand is that they do everything to keep the price down. :)

      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, this is also true. Of course, there are shots that you should be parrying instead of catching, especially in matches. But in training, it's actually a good habit to try and catch every ball, in my opinion 😊

    For the Bad Habit 5: Mentality, that is how I feel like I would make one of the worst saves and it'll still go in but once half-time comes around I manage to do great and send the ball out but sometimes the strikers would shoot at the small gap next to me and it'll still go in and I don't even know why but I guess it is what it is XD anyway I'll try to get them goalkeeper gloves went I get money

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, I totally get where you're coming from! Mentality is such a big part of goalkeeping. Sometimes, you feel off in the first half, and then suddenly, something clicks after halftime. It’s all about staying focused and not letting those early mistakes get in your head.
      As for those shots that sneak in through the small gaps, that can be super frustrating! It might come down to positioning or tightening your angles. Sometimes, just a slight adjustment can close off those gaps, especially in those quick-reaction moments.
      And yeah, good gloves can make a big difference, but it’s all about practice and confidence too. Keep at it, and you’ll start seeing those saves come together!
      Let me know how it goes, and good luck with getting those gloves!

    Well, I'm a 16 year old goalkeeper with 1 and a half year of experience, but I have a very bad habit which is when I dive I don't look at the ball, how to fix that?

    • @GroundGloryGoalkeeping
      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only way to change is to force your body/head/eyes to look at the ball.
      When you're training, exaggerate it. Keep your eyes LOCKED on the ball. Even when you're warming up. Really exaggerate the movement and eye contact.
      Write it down on a piece of paper and think about before and analyze it after training.
      1) When did you well...
      2) When didn't you do it....
      And do the same for next practice as well.

      @GroundGloryGoalkeeping  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m sorry to hear things have been tough lately, but it’s great that you’re still motivated to train and improve - that says a lot about your dedication! Here’s how you can make the most of what you have:
      1. Make the Best of Any Goal Size
      Training with mid-sized goals isn’t a bad thing! It can actually help improve your reaction time and precision because the smaller space forces you to be sharp.
      When you switch to bigger goals, focus on your positioning and angles to cover the extra space.
      2. Solo Training on a Budget
      Use a wall for passing, shot-stopping, and reflex drills. It’s free and super effective!
      Practice your handling, diving, and distribution in your backyard or a local park - you don’t need a full-sized pitch.
      3. Focus on Fitness and Core Strength
      Staying fit is crucial for goalkeeping. Bodyweight exercises like planks, squats, and lunges can be done anywhere and don’t cost a thing.
      4. Get Creative with DIY Training
      Use objects around you, like cones or water bottles, for agility and footwork drills.
      Lay down a blanket or mat for diving practice to avoid getting hurt.
      Remember, it’s not about having the perfect setup - it’s about making the most of what you have. You’ve got the right attitude, and with consistent effort, you’ll keep improving. Keep your head up - you’ve got this! 💪🧤⚽🔥
