Personally, something that has gotten me a lot better at reaction times is, like he said in the video, trying your hardest in training. A lot of "reaction" is just muscle memory activated by instinct. When you see the ball flying through the air, if you have muscle memory, it's instinctive to dive into the ball. Have your hands in a good position as well, it comes as a surprise how many shots you can save without even thinking just because your hands were well positioned. Take a tenis ball and with a partner, practice by placing the ball on their hand and one of your hands on top of theirs, then, they will drop the ball and you must try and catch it in the air. This helped me with 1v1 saves, wich were my worst fear a while ago. So remember to dive and always give in your max, and I hope you can reach your goals. Good luck to you bro
It just takes training I mean you won't be able to do it easily in the beginning but always try your best to make the save and like he said, if you don't make a save just move on.
Thanks, I’m a U14 goalkeeper and have noticed my progress start to slow down and this video helped me realize my bad habits, and how to improve them, especially ball watching. So hopefully I can catch back up to pace!
@@OP1GK I’ve been able to get rid of the bad habits of not going for it on the side, but for some reason I won’t go for anything that is a high ball that looks like it might hit the post, I’ve costed a few goals from it and realized that it’s not just because the 11v11 goals are taller than I think, I even let them in on 9v9 goals when it’s high and I can touch the crossbar on those! Do you have any solutions for this, because it’s not that I don’t think I can get there, my brain just stalls for some reason and I watch it go by.
@@streole3121 I'm unsure of this fix to be honest but I know what you mean. It's definitely a mental thing but I would only say try to improve your confidence in your own ability to be able to know you can save these shots and hopefully that will enable you to dive for these shots
Love this video, remind me so much memories on what my coaches taught me before, really need to make all of this move to become muscle memory(diving forward, correct knee side), so practice more to become a better keeper!
that last tip is so on point! I got into that habit of staring at "impossible shots". But since moving clubs I've been diving after every shot in training and its paid off in matches. Even made a bracket top corner save in my last match (something I've rarely ever done!!)
palming when getting up, patting down, staring at the shots that are too far, and leaning back when diving have all costed me goals. its a great video to remind me to stop doing these things when i play casual football every evening. great video!
Can you make a video on diving towards the non-dominant side e.g. I use my right leg so I am not comfortable in diving towards the left side. I don't know if this is only with me, but it would be very helpful if you give some tips related to this.
Agree with your choice of topic but i've yet to find a pattern to the weakside. I am left handed/footed and find diving to the left very 'alien'. i think it might be to do with keeping my dominant hand free when diving right, who knows. defo a mental block amongst many junior players.
Actually really proud of myself here, my only real bad habit is not diving for the impossible shots, but my teams games don't start for a few more months so I have time to squash that 😅
Appreciate this video. I just started playing soccer in a shinny league and turns out I'm the best goalie on the team despite never doing it before. So I've come to TH-cam to learn how to be a better goalie
2:13 this one is true but on pre game warmup when i see the opposition constantly look at me i perform bad to get their confidence up and in the game i perform . always gets em
Thanks to you I realized that I have the bad habit of the bad leg due to a knee injury years ago. I think that caused me unconscious fear. Anyways thanks a lot. Greetings from Argentina
I just starting being a goalkeeper at least a month ago, and I really need to quit these habits So I don’t try my best, I always lean back, I always pat the ball down, foot saves, and staring at the ball Thanks for reminding me on how I’m gonna stop those habits
Really good video, already at a pretty decent level but remembering the basics is always good, I think the last tip is the most important , you will surprise yourself a lot of times and it will always make you improve even when you don't make the save.
Am a goalkeeper i have learnt a lot from this video especially the first nd second part which is spitting on your glove and standing up from the floor with your palms on the floor i really love the video and i hope to learn from my mistakes thank u so much
I don't train football but i like playing football and being a goalkeeper, because my friends always made fun of me for being a bad goalkeeper. this video helped me a ton, thank you so much❤
This really helped me especially diving I always dive back and not only concede goals but when I do dive to the front I dive flat on my face so thank you for showing the right way you dive
I do a cross K save, but, i only able to do it to the right, to the left, it's feels hard, idk why, also my body is much easier if i dive to the left, to the opposite direction, it's fell hard to, except if i push myself to do it, it's because i don't enough training, or only just my habit ? Can you explain that ?
Regarding your last point I personally have a form of awareness to know where the ball will go once a shot is taken so I don’t dive for obviously missed shots. Do you think I should still attempt to save them even if I know they might bounce off the bar
Regarding my last point, you should dive to shots which are going on target testing your limits. If it's hitting the bar then yeah still dive. You gain more benefits than if you're just standing. If you're diving you're bit by bit improving your diving skills.
@@OP1GK Good news. We won the game with a penalty shoot-out and are champions, although it is a high school match🤣Had 5 Saves and another foot save with 1V1. Awesome video!!!

Idk I have felt that it comes naturally to some. What can help is, stay away from drugs and hard alcohol.
It just takes training I mean you won't be able to do it easily in the beginning but always try your best to make the save and like he said, if you don't make a save just move on.

The second one is kinda wrong tbh, i mean yeah you can damage the gloves but if you get up using your fist you can brake your wrist

Another one: getting off your line, it reduces the amount of goal the striker can see, and it's much easier to save.

Depends on the situation. When your team has the ball at the other end you come out or to narrow the angle
