This is so great, I fell in love with Bangalow in 1999 when I came up for a 3 month visit and stayed .. too gorgeous to leave and yes the people are great!
I lived in Bangalow for 25 years. An icon of the town was Benny and Marge HALL They had a petrol shop and servo for 50 years. it used to be where you are at 7:53 min mark. It was like Gruber and Gomers shop at Mayberry USA
The races you mentioned on the main street is actually a Billy Cart Derby! Happens once a year with school kids to parents racing down the hill in their homemade carts. A lovely day of community spirit and fun. Bangas is the best.
Believe it or not, I had never even heard of Bangalow until you mentioned it on Tom TV here. The chirping sounds like rosellas. I would say, that is more likely what they are. We have them here also.

The bats are Flying foxes. Purple flowers are Alstonvilliea Tibochinna a local man from Alstonville propagated them
