Another way is to wrap just enough tape around the threads on the fitting to prevent them cutting into the seal and damaging it, and push the seal directly onto the fitting.
Tip: Temporarily wrap tape backward around the threads so the sticky side is facing out, wrap tape a second time so the sticky side is against the first tape, both sticky sides of tape are facing each other, install the washer, and unscrew the tape from the threads.
I'm pretty sure there's another seal inside this elbow fitting because it swivels on the tube that inserts into the pump housing regardless of how much you tighten it. The Teflon seal mentioned here only prevents leakage from the threads.
I've done 2 and i.get them over but after hours of them sitting they don't shrink back so when I tighten them part the seal blows out the side and leaks. I just put a really tight rubber o ring on to get me by but I don't have high hopes it'll last.
If you suck that little ring in hot water for 10 minutes put it on a extension 3/8 and it'll come right off of that onto your hose easy peasy no special tool
I have a 2003 ford expedition, the line is broken inside of the fitting and the bolt around it is strip so I have no way to take it out, is there any hose strong enough that I can use over the old fitting to make a new line over the old one for the high pressure line, or do you have any suggest what can be done in such horrible situation? Thank you
Lost this piece put pump on anyways , leaked all fluid out in 2 seconds, took it back off out Teflon tape and it started leaking. Took pump all the way off and took it back and got a new one just for this seal. Fml. Never again. Triton life

Where does the smaller seal go?
Worked for me. I wound up using a socket that was the same diameter as the threads, then worked it to its little cubby.

I use a a cap cover from a sharpie. It does the same thing.
Creative!

Good tip. Thanks for posting!
You bet!
I'm about to do a 99 F350.
Is this the only seal on the power steering?
I read here someone mentioning a smaller one too?

Is there a way other than Teflon seal because we do not have a Teflon seal?
Not that I am aware of.

Oh man! That's a horrible lesson to learn! lol. At least you are on the other side of it.
You need a another tool to push it over the other tool.
Never used another tool other than my fingers.
Allittle assembly lube on the seal and be careful.
I like it....
Can you not just put it on with hands
