    Hey everyone, thanks so much for checking out the newest video! I wanted to address a few items in the video just to serve as additional points of clarification. At one point I seem to recall the Swiss team saying they had audio streaming working for SD Gecko solutions, however, it was removed to make games run faster (A good move in my book). There are also some games that have glitchy audio right now. Citrus3000psi let me know its in some games that came out in 2005 such as Mario Party 7 and Tiger Woods 2005. The GC Loader team is aware of these and patching the ODE. As far as multi-disc games go, I was informed that it has been repaired and the update to patch that will be in the next GC Load Firmware revision.

      Thanks a lot, just a question, in previous SD-Card systems, there was, but you might correct me on that, a problem on the power supply side or secondary power supply board, which was overheating due to the removal /disconnection of the optical drive, is it the same with this new SD card system? If so, do you recommend to modify anything on the power supply to avoid that? Thanks!

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@infographyst I would say no need to modify on the power side. The previous mods (and the one mentioned in this video) was designed for the wii and not the GC. This was specifically designed and made for the GC from the ground up. Perhaps if citrus3000psi swings by he can provide further commentary on it.

      @@RockerGaming I bought a Wii and modded it a few years back because Gamecube mods were hard to find. For instance, it was impossible to find the case mod that allows the system to use normal size discs rather than the micro ones. Wii can play Gamecube games from disc or iso, and it can play homebrew as well so Gamecube modding scene should be dead by now.

      @@ReveriePass great question. Basically some games will get through background tracks (music) by streaming the audio off the DVD. without getting too deep into the detail... its based upon the way the game is coded and it seeks those tracks off the DVD. For those games, the only way for the music to work correctly is to physically burn a back-up, have the OG game, or use the GCLoader (audio streaming in not supported by legacy ODE's either). Other SD Gecko solutions do not currently support audio streaming. So for the Crash game I played in the video, there is no background music, only sound effects.

    This tutorial is great (but if you get nowdays a GC Loader, the soldering part is now obsolete, as it no longer needs that part) and in case your GCN has a dead DVD drive, it will revive the console in a much better way than just replacing the drive (in my case that's exactly what will happen with my DOL-001 GCN that I have since GCN day 1, once the GC Loader I bought arrives home).

Also mods("rom hacks"), texture packs and widescreen or fps unlock mods are very easy to use in dolphin. however console does give a very authentic feel and it is the best for recording speedruns of games - though having GC loader which reduces load times might not be allowed for speedrun! ;) There are mods for nintendo 64 which can increase display resolution but they are very expensive, i already spent all money on gaming pc ;)

      It uses Swiss to launch homebrew and isos. Honestly, you can replicate this by getting a xeno chip (5-10 dollars) and SD2SP2 (5-10 dollars). Sure, you need to burn a mini dvd with swiss on it to boot but you aren't actively using the laser. The laser will only read the boot disc once and afterwards you don't have to worry about it. I know ODEs will eventually become a necessity when lasers die out but I don't see it happening soon if you only use your laser to read swiss.
      You are accomplishing the same thing with a modchip and sd2sp2 as you are with an ode but you have an extra step of needing to use a swiss bootdisc.

    Fantastic video, thank you so much for this 😊 I have a quick question about the sd2spi2. You mentioned the spi bus maxes out/ runs up to 3mbps and the dvd bus possible runs up to 12mbps. Without much knowledge of how this affects gameplay playback from the dvd drive vs the sd2spi2, i interpreted it may mean the DVD drive loads games faster/ plays games better or smoother (even if only at certain points of certain games). However when i saw the sd2spi2 load Crash a good many seconds faster i got a little confused given the DVDs bus being faster. Would you be able to clarify why it loaded faster on the sd2spi2 this for me and 2. would you say it's better to play games of the sd2spi2 vs dvd drive, pretending my dvd drive works perfectly? Im very interested to find out whether the sd2spi2 should load and play most GameCube games (pal or ntsc) faster or at least on par with the disc drive so i can look at methods to avoid the drive's wear down while still getting the best playback experience (without doing any internal mods). Thank you again for your time and very helpful videos 🙂

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent question and I appreciate you asking it! It really just comes down to two things 1 - the dvd drive has to seek whereas the iso file on the sd2sp2 doesnt and 2 - the sd2sp2 didn't load the streaming audio where the dvd did. This impacts load times and the amount of seeking the drive needs to do. Hopefully that helps explain why the sd2sp2 was faster. It basically comes down to it didnt load as much as the dvd drive and it doesnt have to seek

So, is the major difference in the under $20 vs $80+ speed in loading ? Shouldn't all home brew work on both options ?
