This song is SO damn great because of the PERFECT essentials: Essential rock guitar - perfect harmonies - great lead vocals. Then you have the video that totally kicks ass.
RIP Adam Schlesinger 52 years old far too young, great songwriter & talent who gave us pop punk classics like Denise, radiation vibe & Stacy’s mom Covid sucks.
Adam Schlesinger has a zillion "high brow" credits and awards but "Stacy's Mom" and "That Thing You Do" is where you'll find me... Another victim of COVID-19 died in upstate New York after a week of being heavily sedated. R.I.P.
Two decades ago this memorable and catchy tune and video were released for the music world to hear. It was definitely a teen idyllic song back the early 2000s!
The harmonies here are way too clean for live recording. Definitely overdubbed. Probably not the only thing either. Still great nonetheless. I like how the lead singer's guitar keeps changing throughout the song. I guess they couldn't decide on a single take and just patched several together.
Love these guys from their first album onward. Bought everything they released. Anyone watching this video for Stacy's Mom owes it to themselves to seek out and listen to their entire catalog of music. They didn't release that many records and they are all full of great songs like this.
i knew adam like 20 years ago. jammed with him and jody and the boys and they never made me feel less cuz i was a girl. but i was a bass player too, and so impressed with adam i could hardly play when he was around. i do a show on facebook and i did a dedication to adam...he did so much other stuff i never knew about! he was tight with the Farrelly brothers, which is odd cuz my kid is really good friends with them, but he did soundtracks and tv shows and i have no idea how he did all the stuff he did. i'm so glad he had the chance to do it though! RIP adam...you most certainly will be missed! Xxx.
i wish he was still around because i'm totally "stacy's mom". my kid's 20 and he can't stand my punk rock ways (20 years. he's not new. and i've been like this since i was 15. dork) but his friends LOVE me!! hahaha. he hates that! it's so awesome.
I missed on these guys in the 90's. Discovered them and Matthew Sweet recently. Great music! FOW sooooo underrated for musicianship, but also lyrics with cheeky humor.
I still have my Dec. 1996 Metro Ticket stub, Scratchie Records show. This music has brought me so many fond memories. Good Times. These song will always make me think of my Brother Mark. R.I.P. Great line up That night. Thanks James and Darcy
Rip Adam 😔💔, “this song is one of my favorites ❤️ and “That thing you do “will be in my heart forever ❤️, you rock on that bass guitar . You should be the singing you looked happier . Gone way too young 😔💔
I went to school n jammed with Brian Young from time to time.I always new he was gonna be something special. He was a cool guy a great mentor and friend at one time in my life.Cheers Brian From Chris Buskirk.P.s Miles my dad who you used to jam with died may 1st 2016 of bone cancer. He was proud of you to bro. £¡¥€ £☆¥€
i miss Adam!! i just reread the comment i left last year. he was such a good guy, so sweet and enthusiastic and gifted. he would love that i sing "Lohen's mom has got it going on!" to my kid, who says i'm "immature and embarrassing". ha! good!! RIP buddy. x.
Thank you, ADAM SCHLESINGER for doing your part to help tame mankind with your gift and talent.

It’s also great because of Stacy’s Mom. After all… she’s got it goin’ on!
@@sablyptical So Yabba Dabba Doooooo Dude. Agree with you totally. Song's Outstanding. The video is better.
@@sablyptical Stacy's mom is a total fox, dude.
@@gregorydamario7977 Well, you get to see Stacy's mom... and she's got it going on.
the dude in the video looks like he is about 11 years old
3:10 hahahahhahah that look he gives right after "mom". heheheh "Damn, glad THIS one's over!"
dead on
no
Epic
Most likely because it took more than one take! Notice the guitar keeps changing 😁
Nope--you read that wrong..it's like he heard a bad chord...Artists love their big hits...
So sad to hear that Adam died. He was a once in a generation pop songwriter. Truly a loss.
1 year now
only the good die young
RIP Adam
Rock
i just found out last week. so sad. =(
Real musicians playing REAL instruments and REALLY singing! No backing tracks, autotune and all that stuff to deceive the audience. Congratulations!
You need to watch more carefully 😁. Not all as it seems
RIP Adam Schlesinger 52 years old far too young, great songwriter & talent who gave us pop punk classics like Denise, radiation vibe & Stacy’s mom Covid sucks.
The music video to this song is probably one of the best music videos ever made IMO.
Frrrrr
Agreed...Rachel Hunter looks a-friggen-mazing....as always. Not to mention the song is great.
You can rarely hear those harmonies today. RIP Adam. Gone too soon. Thank you for the music.
those are just perfect backing vocals :0
That's because it's definitely a backing track or they added them after recording. Way too perfect for a live performance, even for a good one.
Obvious backing track

It was definitely a teen idyllic song back the early 2000s!
This morning while driving I was whistling this song, it popped up to my mind from nowhere.. and here I am.
The harmonies here are incredible, especially considering how Chris rarely hits the center of the note he's singing.
EXACTLY.
Wow, what a beautiful song
The off-ness of the lead vocal is so perfect
The harmonies here are way too clean for live recording. Definitely overdubbed. Probably not the only thing either. Still great nonetheless. I like how the lead singer's guitar keeps changing throughout the song. I guess they couldn't decide on a single take and just patched several together.
@@gldmj55 They are totally playing along to a backing track. Also, this is a splice of at least 2 performances as the lead singer changes guitars.
I blame this song for being bullied as a child! Haha but I love it
Is Rachel Hunter your mom?
What about scotty?.
Because of his surname
I need a mashup. Scotty doesn't know about Stacey's Mom.
mysterious guitar changes are mysterious
It is the television´s magic!
It happens when they record the artist before or after the live preformance to get better shots
Mandela effect...hahaha
@@henrydouberly3950 No, two shows. I've done this before.
This was confusing the hell out of me.

This is one of my favorites from an underrated band.
An absolute classic!❤
RIP Adam Schlesinger, gone at age 52 from the Coronavirus.

RIP Adam. Great fucking band.
Amazing guitar change at 2:19 !
RIP to one of my songwriting heroes! Thanks for your gift of music. We can appreciate you forever.
Rest in Peace Adam Scheslinger :(

Probably the best backing vocals I've ever heard, at least from a rock band. So clean harmonies.
to be COMPLETELY honest i really LOVE the fountains of wayne
Truly remarkable how he can switch guitars during the solo without stopping...
Good catch! Two (or more) performances) spliced together?

RIP and RIR(rest in rock) Adam Schlesinger 😢 Loved your music! American rock lost a jewel today.
2:19 magic guitar swap??? Are you telling me the guys editing this never noticed that???
1:25 he couldnt control his laughter!!
I loved this song. Underrated band.
Wow, you can really feel the energy in this performance! (zzzzzzz.....)
JVIPER88 you clearly only came here because of the song, not the band then. This is how they perform- most of their songs aren't like this
Jason Button
Yes, I came here for the song. Thank you for letting me know about the band.
LOL!!! Funny comment!
Danny Herrera nwehrhrb%bebnejejeheh^nenjrajnarn%nnrAejhaehheh!
Kylie Vanderwilt ;)
Damn! These guys are perfect performing live!
I really like this band, they remind me very much of the groups that rose out of the 60's.

kick ass back up vocals
RIP just heard the Covid just took his life...
GT Big hair It took the bassist’s life. The lead singer is fine.
simonberry512 www.nytimes.com/2020/04/01/arts/music/adam-schlesinger-dead-coronavirus.html
Yup, the bassist unfortunately passed away.
Technically CCP virus. Chinese Communist Party killed him and every CCP virus victim.
Dillon Ohlemiller Yes, look up pictures of that guy and tell me if he looks like he’s blonde. He’s the bassist in this video who does backing vocals.
He's so good he switched guitars and didn't stop playing
2:32
and then he switched back!
No shit - red then yellow then red again - then once more yellow. I want a guitar like that.
Amazing harmonies of vocals just like in the record
That's because they're definitely pre-recorded vocals they used as a backing track or added them when they edited the video.
Wow. This is an excellent performance. Great mix.
They got super old. Now I feel old.
no matter how screwed up this song seems, these actually appreciated the art in the music, and it shows in this performance. i love it.
8 years later, this means he genuinely performed live, instead of lip sync like artist nowadays
RIP Adam, playing this all day! x x
Thank you for the music. 😔 RIP Adam.
Wonderful backing vocals.......a lost art.
This song is just like the Cars “Just What I Needed”. Pretty good!
hey - I was going to say that - exact same intro
EXACTLY.
At the beginning of the official video one of the kids is made up to be a tribute to Ric Ocasek of the Cars.
Glad these guys can actually freaking sing so many artists cant sing for the life of them
Such a good song!
3 part harmony , is spot on. RIP Jersey Rocker
i fucking love this sort of music with harmonies
Awesome!! The perfect kick ass pop song...!
RIP Adam Schlesinger!!

RIP Adam 💜
One hit wonder? No, all pieces of Fow amazing 🌟🔥
this hurts in the childhood im only 19 but this is what i used to listen back in the day
I like this song it’s one of my favorite songs 🎤🎤🎤🎸🎸
The lead singer looks like the kid in the original video grown up.
Speeds up big-time in the beginning. Still a great cover of a great fun song!
They wrote and recorded this song, not a cover
1:24 That little laugh lol
Wow! Awesome performance!!
They need to make a movie out of this song
These lads love a key change !!
Stacys mom has got it going on ❤❤❤
Anyone else notice his guitar change from wine red to cream color a couple of times?
Axxe Green i did
Axxe Green it must have been the illusion
Axxe Green oh you must be thinking of the camera changing from the singer’s es 335 and the other guy’s tele
2:10 - Red Gretsch
2:19 - Cream Gretsch
2:34 - Red Gretsch
Andre are you colorblind?? The guitar is at first walnut brown. Then it switches to green, and then back to walnut brown

2:23 is truly what makes this song my favorite
Great key change
This is my all time favorite 🔥
Wow he changes guitars so fast!!
Also I’m in love with Stacy’s mom
Why did the color of Chris' guitar change from dark brown to green during the solo and at the end?
Nice tune 👏👏
Great singing
Love this song
Still a great song
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!
