Oh don't you even get me started on old laptops. In 2019 as a 2nd/5 year high schooler I carried around a HP Mini 110 as my personal school device. It was a bit impractical, slow, heavy, and the battery barely made it through the 5 hour stravaganza that was a school day, but it carried me through the year quite nicely. Most work was simply typing stuff. Thanks to this old netbook my grades quickly went up. My only problem was that I couldn't (still can't) write by hand, so I was the lazy kid in 1st year. After this I moved on to other things, like school laptops (which were more powerful) and eventually my phone combined with GDocs. The latter is still my current setup today and I love it. My phone is kinda trash hardware wise, but I shaped the software to borderline perfection over the past 2.5 years I've had my A21s. TL;DR I used a HP Mini 110 in high school despite being a decade old back then.

Ironically I recently started using a pocket notepad for for reminders, to do lists, jot down notes, etc. I've noticed a tangible dramatic improvement in all of those functions. Reminder notifications are far too easy for me to flick away, leading me to forget, especially if I can't do that task right at that moment. It's also easier than sifting through hundreds of nonsense notes in the notes app to find something I jotted down. Physically writing something down also locks things into my memory much better. And it's satisfying to scratch something off the to do list. That's just how I work though, but would recommend giving it a shot if you struggle with such things. I’ve wanted Apple to release a new iPod for a while now. I think it would be amazing for them to do a modern iPod classic or iPod nano that can connect to Apple Music to benefit from the streaming library without other distracting apps (plus, I like the idea of being able to listen to music without impacting my phone’s battery). For the time being, I’ve repurposed a refurbished iPhone 13 mini as my “iPod”. It’s not perfect (and has access to all the distracting apps), but I’m hoping the smaller screen and battery life will be enough to dissuade me from using it for more than what I need it for.
Or even just a semi-smart watch. I have one from Withings, because I like an analog watch face, but it also has an alarm, timer, tracks heart rate and steps. I don't want a smartphone on my wrist, I want a watch with some extra functionality. No distracting notifications or anything.

I gave my iPod classic to my brother in law years ago… miss it. I’ve been toying with the idea of trading in my iPhone 15 Pro Max and down grading to a 15 to use it as an iPod (I’ve hated the 15 Pro Max for a while now as I’m not impressed with the cameras or the phone) and have been thinking about getting a Sony Xperia I VI… seriously!
I don't own the Mark VI, but I have the Mark IV. The physical shutter button is very handy and you can definitely fine tune the camera settings like a DSLR, but for simple and automatic point and shoot, Apple, Google, and all the rest do a better job. However, a pro is that the software algorithms for computational photography won't mess with the final picture. What you see in real life is what the phone takes a picture of if you want realism.
One of the things I use on my Windows 11 PC is the multi-desktop feature. I have the main desktop the OS boots to as my "work" main, with only word processing, graphic design and other work-related apps/software shortcuts visible, and then a secondary desktop for "relaxing" with TH-cam, Music, Streaming Services and the browser I use for Twitter and stuff. It's not perfect, because _technically_ I can still access everything from the first desktop - having some way to actually properly hide and maybe even LOCK that software on a chosen desktop would be nice - but I've found it HAS helped cut down on distractions whilst working because I can't be bothered to switch desktops over to click on the visible shortcuts. Not having them immediately in view and making it so extra clicks are required has been surprisingly effective.
Honestly I bought an iPod classes 5.5 gen for music with no distractions and I love it but I didn’t want to buy all the albums i wanted to add. Found an iPhone 7 Plus jet black on eBay for $60 and I have Apple Music and messages on it and that’s it. And then began my collecting obsession 😂 I now have iPhone 3GS-XS Max, a few iPod touches, and an iBook g4 😂
On the notepad tip, I recommend the Rocketbooks. It does kinda suck that you have to lock into Pilot FriXion pens, but then they're reusable notepads. I can clean up and start over at the drop of a hat. They're pretty expensive compared to just buying like, 30 normal notepads, but if you're not at risk of losing your notepad? It saves on waste a lot, and you can save those notes later with the app to email them or keep adding to them in all those notetaking apps.
Heavily agree with you. It’s crazy I came across this video. I was in eBay looking for an iPod because I wanted to hike / run with music only. But then I realized running with my Apple Watch Ultra and leaving the phone behind was like my modern iPod
Keyboards like the FreeWrite thing are a HUGE thing for people who need accessibility accommodations because for whatever reason they are not able to take notes with a pen and paper. I've worked in many classrooms where students were able to fully participate in class ONLY because we had the Alpha keyboards which they could use for in class writing assignments, then plug them into a printer and have something to submit along with their classmates! There are a LOT of reasons why things like these exist...
Been using the Sony NW-A306 in a similar way. I think its the perfect modern solution as its not technically limited to just music but its the only thing you would WANT to use it for. Too small to really type on but you can transfer things from streaming services problem free
I'm stuck with broken ipod, too much music and itunes as my library organizer. was thinking if I should get an old iphone as music player, but those cost hella lot. I'd probably just break my ipod classic if I try to open it.
I've tried using tech for notes. I always go back to using a notebook somehow. IPod would be great but don't want to pay for individual songs. Streaming is just too good for new music and for music discovery.
I love this video! I think it’s super important for us to disconnect at times, and focus on only one or two things at once. I’ve found a lot more peace in myself since I’ve started reading on my lunch breaks rather than be on my phone. For those who hate 30pin, and want Bluetooth but no internet, try the iPod nano 7th gen. It has a headphone jack and also can work with AirPods, and uses a lightning port for charging and data transfer. And it’s tiny! Ken, give it a whirl :) Like many in the comments, I’ve also repurposed my 13 mini as a media device after upgrading to a 15. It’s perfect when I need the connection for streaming, but I purposely leave off anything not related to music, podcasts, or audiobooks.
Best way is to just start aggressively uninstalling apps. YT, Reddit, Instagram, FB have no need to be on your phone in an app. Browser all the way. TikTok just needs to disappear. I have 26 apps on my phone in total (including stuff like the settings app, and a camera app). Really makes a difference. Phone becomes less fun at that point.
iPods are hard to find locally that still works but a offline device and just recently purchased a DAP HiBy R4 with its system wide bit perfect for music lovers

I've been going in completely the opposite direction, replacing devices with a Fold 5 and a laptop dock. Everything is my phone now. I don't use social media and don't give a f what people are up to, so there's no phone use to control. I'm not one to tell people how to live their lives but that phone junkie shit cannot be healthy
Yep. I use a Galaxy S21 Ultra solely for the Notepad/Media player purposes. That thing has all the apps disabled/uninstalled, and remains on airplane mode 95% of the time. I bought it used a few months ago, and have no regrets!
I actually have multiple dedicated-ish (all besides one have emulators and ROMs, as of now) devices. Most were gifted to me. My phone is an S21 Ultra that I plan on upgrading to a Z Flip 5 or 6 if it's out by the time I can upgrade, a 2020 iPad Pro with paperlike I use as all purpose and especially art, a 2019 iPod touch primarily for music and stories for sleep, a 2021 Kindle Fire primarily reading my play books library, a modded 3DS, a Switch, an XBox One, and a PS4, lol. I also just got given an older iPhone that I'm gonna turn into primarily a emulation device to use my GameSir x2 or 8BitDo Pro on, lol.
my distraction fee gadget is my broken phone on battery. but still habe good standby time. if i used actively its only can used for 2 hours. so i force to used phone less when im outside
Apple then: WE GOT DEALS ON ALLL OF YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC AND VARIOUS ACCESSORIES TO MAKE A VIBE OUT OF YOUR ROOM!!! Apple now: we are releasing the new iPhone 25 complete with every single feature from the iPhone 24 except 10x more annoying!
I think a iPod touch would be better as you have nothing else installed (well besides the stock apps that can’t be uninstalled) beside your music service of your choice would be much better as your connected to the internet letting you play any song you would like without having to somehow transfer music to it.
Why isn't there an app that turns the iPhone Mini into a modern iPod, perhaps with customizable skins? A simple Shortcut could be linked to the app that, once activated, takes control of the phone and puts it in focus mode. This would ensure uninterrupted music streaming and downloading, free from distractions like notifications or other services. The iPhone Mini’s small size and Bluetooth connectivity, especially for CarPlay, navigation, and media playback, make it perfect for such functionality.
did a similar thing, but for video games. got a Galaxy s20 for $150 and a razer kishi for $20 & turned it into a surprisingly great emulation machine. and I free up a bunch of space on my main phone lol
I saw this comment and decided to take a look on eBay since I do some gaming on my phone myself (with time limits because I don't want to charge multiple times a day) and got an LG G8 for 40 USD, so I want to say thank you lol
This is why android is cool. There are a pretty wide range of minimal launchers, like OLauncher or Niagara, that has a lot of settings to minimize disturbance.
Where i can download music for my iPod?? I mean, the hole album, not a single song like i do whit convertor TH-cam music to mp3 Do you know any web or software??
I will add this perspective I'm not someone who uses high-dollar mechanical keyboards. I would argue that that's not something that most people would need but it's something that people enjoy who have disposable income and this probably fits in that same category.

I have a collection of ipods ranging from the classic 6th gen to the 1st gen touch all the way through to thr 6th gen touch.
I absolutely adore them!
That's actually amazing insight, thank you!
I love all the anime vibe you put in your videos! Great video.
I've tried using tech for notes. I always go back to using a notebook somehow. IPod would be great but don't want to pay for individual songs. Streaming is just too good for new music and for music discovery.
They still sell really good DAPs.
Ken, give it a whirl :)
Like many in the comments, I’ve also repurposed my 13 mini as a media device after upgrading to a 15. It’s perfect when I need the connection for streaming, but I purposely leave off anything not related to music, podcasts, or audiobooks.
We have a 7th gen nano around somewhere, I might dust it off!!
12:30 ah yes, my favorite music app... Waze
I go on a lot of night drives to relax
Yo playing Love Live music on an ipod is gold, zura.
Knowing apple it would be locked to using Apple Music and properly a extra expensive tier. Would not make sense in 2024.
Ado All night Radio. 0:01

I feel like the free write can be easily recreated with a raspberry pi
Jokes on you Ken I'm watching on my tablet
@@teksupportco me too haha
iPods are hard to find locally that still works but a offline device and just recently purchased a DAP HiBy R4 with its system wide bit perfect for music lovers
hi is it possible to use wifi to download a book or audible book onto my old iPhone no sim so I can then play it without any wifi connection like old books? For instance I have audible purchased books and I want to put two of them on my iPhone and I have 3 old iPhones, instead of taking up room on my current iPhone that does have a simm card? Hope I am making sense. I Have 5, 5SE and 6 iPhones.
I recently purchased an old iPod touch 4th gen for nostalgia and collection purposes. Waiting on delivery.
I want to see Denki with an upturned fringe and a more ikemen look
what about the ipod touch???
I've been going in completely the opposite direction, replacing devices with a Fold 5 and a laptop dock. Everything is my phone now. I don't use social media and don't give a f what people are up to, so there's no phone use to control. I'm not one to tell people how to live their lives but that phone junkie shit cannot be healthy
Could you please review the moondrop MIAD01 5G ?
Yep. I use a Galaxy S21 Ultra solely for the Notepad/Media player purposes. That thing has all the apps disabled/uninstalled, and remains on airplane mode 95% of the time. I bought it used a few months ago, and have no regrets!
The new generation is probably like whats a ipod? Is that spotify? Lol
Another Banger!
What headphone are you using in this video?
my distraction fee gadget is my broken phone on battery. but still habe good standby time. if i used actively its only can used for 2 hours. so i force to used phone less when im outside
I use grayscape mode - It sucks out the entertainment part of the mobile phones but also becomes suitable for long reading times
I currently use an iPhone SE 2020 that I intend to reset and use as iPod when I eventually get a new phone
Greetings. Do you do Ipod modding for hire? I have an Ipod I need nodded. Pls let me know, thanks and keep up the good work!
Where did you get your wallpaper at 0:54 min
Kentama has to come back!
Ken: It cost $650.
Luke: What?!!
Where i can download music for my iPod??
I mean, the hole album, not a single song like i do whit convertor TH-cam music to mp3
Do you know any web or software??
honestly its either rip it from a cd or download the album song by song
I will add this perspective I'm not someone who uses high-dollar mechanical keyboards. I would argue that that's not something that most people would need but it's something that people enjoy who have disposable income and this probably fits in that same category.
where did you get the shirt!
if apple wants a foldable phone turn the folded form like the Ipad nano with physical botton or wheel.
Making your life complicated. Turn off your wifi if you are not working, download all of your music save it onto your ipod or usb. Watch free tv, read books set an alarm for task. No need to spend money. I still have my collections dvd vcds cassette tapes vhs books magazines etc because i know this will happens lol
I turned my old Samsung galaxy s10plus into my media player being able to listen to Spotify while watching a TH-cam video is awesome
i repurposed my 1st gen se just for music, without simcard/wifi, the battery life is surprisingly good for drive/gym and stuff. oh and a headphone jack
oh please help if you can ... hi is it possible to use wifi to download a book onto my old iPhone no sim so I can then play it without any wifi connection like old books or podcasts? For instance I have audible purchased books and I want to put two of them on my iPhone and I have 3 old iPhones, instead of taking up room on my current iPhone that does have a sim card? Hope I am making sense. I Have 5, 5SE and 6 iPhones.
I would love to use my iPod I scored for a good deal new sealed in the box, but I did not spend 300 euro on AirPods Pro for nothing, and I'm not TH-cam rich to just not use it or to get good wired headphones. Unfortunately I would love too tho
The irony of me interrupting my music listening with this video 😭 TH-cam is like the final boss of distraction honestly
Bro said de-revolution
De-evolution
The freewrite is good, but the problem is it costs as much as a laptop or a tablet.
Aunty Edna went from designing to youtube nice!
were you on ltt or am i just wrong?
I actually love the song u played on spotify from girl band cry
I love how the tail-end of millenials and whatever came after are slowly realizing that subscription services and not owning your own music is not a sustainable practice.
weren't you the guy in the chair for your friend who got bitten by a radioactive spider?
im with it. as much tech as iv been into over the years. but everything you say applys to me lmfao
lol I use my old mint condition iPhone 12 as an alarm clock and mp3 player! iPhone 15 is the daily, s20 ultra for the things the iPhone can't do.
This reminds me that I bought my Sony Walkman a 50 series only for music
You wanna know whats wild tho.. having downloaded 1000s of songs only to delate them all and now be duped into paying to basically rent them monthly... they got most of us in the long run.
I’ve got an old iPod Touch I want to just use as a music player and nothing else.
i love the suggestions, but literally around me, are distractions. my mind is just wired to be distracted. I have to mentally kick myself in the a$$ to do work. That notepad and pen?? I'll just start drawing. lol
same especially with the political race even tho i have never been into politics I am into studying human behavior and I am horrified at how low humankind has gone Ugh I keep- trying to find redemption you tubes for my broken heart. Really off topic I know.
@@ooohlaa13very interesting. if you read/watch history, i think it was worse back then, specially going back to the dark ages and moving onward to the industrialization of europe or even just the UK.
But yes, if you’re talking about the NOW? most of the things outside our focus is a distraction from reaching out goals. I hope you reach your goals and achieve your dreams. Have a great day.
great video! I really enjoy your content dude!
Get a nice gel pen set,
I personally never understood why Apple turned iTunes into Apple Music... Never been an Apple user for my main phone OS, but still like, from an outsider perspective, and as someone with a ton of nostalgia when using friends Apple products back in the day... What were they thinking?
Need a big home stereo ipod that is kid and parent proof.
I usually the same way with my PC use my TH-cam watching machine plus games lol
Crazier than Head-less mackbook
I see the Best Love Live Album
Old man attempts to use pen and paper
If you liked this video 'digging the greats' has a great series on this!
