  • I go through the process of replacing the front shock component of the strut, replace the upper and lower ball joints and bushings by replacing the entire upper and lower control arm (wishbone) assembly. I also remove and replace the CV Axle/CV Joint on my 2005 Lexus GX470

What a fantastic rust free underbody! I did my upper and lowers a few weekends ago, my GX came from PA and nothing wanted to come off. I had to sawzall my lower control arms off, through the bolts and everything. My castle nuts and pins were all stuck so I had to cut those too. It took me 2.5 solid days.
I appreciate how thorough you are.

Thank you! I am very thankful I don't have to deal with Northern salt issues, that would be so much worse! Thank you for the positive feedback! :)

Paint can opener works well for loosening axle dust cover.

How did you rotate the flat side of the shock post to face to front of the suv? Did you jack up the lower control arm to loosen the bolt and rotate the flat side of the post using a crescent wrench? or dId you remove the strut and compress the springs with spring compressors to loosen the top nut then rotate the flat side of the post?

All the best videos dont show the hard part since it makes the info confusing. Its better just to tell the story about how easy it was!!! Well played!!

This may seem obvious but did you refill differential fluid immediately?...or it's OK to drive to shop and have it filled. I am at the end of process but not easy to refill on my back😂

Do not drive it anywhere! Go to the hardware store (in a different car) and get a some clear hose that you can put over the cut bottle nozzle to squirt in there. Look at my transmission fluid video, I show you how in detail. th-cam.com/video/2_10DBHlGl4/w-d-xo.html

Which Moog LCA s did you use? Many after market LCA s are labeled NOT for adjustable suspension, etc. So only for 4 runner, trucks.

No way to u need to hit it hard. Just pry it out, it just slips out. Also, remove tie rod end from steering knuckle so disc assy etc can be removed towards the left of cv axle.

If just replacing the uca does that front strut have to be taken out?

No, but I would still compress the spring with the floor jack under the LCA and put on a spring compressor to take some of the force out of the spring and make the manipulation easier.
