So glad you like the book. The bonus section ending the deluxe slipcased edition features the title page art for the early 1960s paperbacks - mostly for ACE. One thing unique with this book, besides being EVERY Frazetta book cover in chronological order is, Frazetta tended to update paintings after they were published. All the art books that have come out since have the altered versions. This book collects the original versions exactly as they first appeared, along with notations and commentary including direct quotes from Frazetta. Note: Vanguard issued no signed edition but The Frazetta Museum in PA offers it signed by Frank Jr with a vintage hand stamp of Frank Sr's signature to support the Museum.
I have been an avid collector of Frazetta art since I was a boy in the mid 1960s and have a large collection of collected book editions. I recently purchased this and it was the most disappointing of any printed collections I have seen. It wasn't the subject material, but the interior art was dull in color and lacked vivid details - it looked more like a cheap photo copy reproductions of Frazetta's art on low quality resolution.
Thank you for the preview. Some reviewers on Amazon talk about pictures being faded out and low quality scans. Do you feel this is the case with this book?
I think the reproductions are good. You have to remember these are essentially shots of the book covers not scans of the original art. Taking that into consideration, I think they all look good.
Aaron, I've been a big fan of yours for years! Looks like those b&w pieces at the end are front page illustrations. How is the resolution of the images? It looks pretty good to me in the video but there are a lot of reviews on Amazon that say it's poor.
In addition I would say, I don't know that you would buy this book as a typical "art book". It is more of a reference guide. Taking that into consideration I think the reproductions are really good.
That is a tough question. Underwood published a series of three books that I believe are all in paperback now called, Icon, Legacy and Testament. If you only want or can afford one, I would get ICON. Bantam did a series of over-sized paperbacks called Frank Frazetta Book One, Two, Three, Four and Five. Those mostly contain his painting but there is some black and white in there. Taschen just published a huge coffee table sized book called the Fantastic Worlds of Frank Frazetta that is pretty comprehensive but it is a $200 book. (check out my unboxing video on this)

A friend of mine does have a sketch from Frazetta. He was Frank's neighbor in Jersey.
