A nice creek for tenkara - perfect scale, lots of good pockets, and a tight canopy. It’s additionally rewarding when you have success with your own fly creations. Probably not an accident that you had success with the nymph…that creek looked like excellent wet fly water. Nice work!
When tying larger foam body flies (hoppers, spiders, beetles, etc.), I push the shank of the hook with enough pressure to create a slight offset in the bend and point. It seems to increase hookups with the foam flies especially, but I’m at a loss to explain why. What a great local creek you have!

So the tail of the fly points up more?
@@zisontheriver Yes, just at a slight angle. It gives the hook a slightly wider and offset gape and seems to improve hook sets.
