I'm really surprised that they never gave Bugsy any gen 5 bugs, considering unova is where most of the good bugs come from tbh, volcarona, galvantula, genesect, durant ain't trash, neither are scolipede or accelgor... come on gamefreak

4:15 So this is kinda cool. In my opinion, Bugsy’s rematch team in HGSS is a reference to his knowledge of Bug Pokémon as most of them have complicated evolution methods. Shedninja required an empty pole ball and party slot, Scizor required an item and a trade, Yanmega requires a special move being learned, and only female Combee can evolve into Vespiquin. And as a bonus, Heracross and Pinsir have a rivalry, which could be studied by having them on the same party. Idk if this is all fact, but it was always my assumption.
I find it so great that someone noticed it ! I actually think that it's a general theme around bug pokémon that their trainers have great knowledge. Just like instead of the little kids who use bugs in 1st gen, the bug trainers are adult scientists in emerald ! Like the game is telling you when you meet a bug trainer, you're not supposed to think "...so, you're weak", but rather "...so, you know a lot" And having played full bug teams in fire red and emerald, i can confirm : every single information you know about the game will be needed to win !
Id never let my gaurd down if the gym leader Im faceing is a bug type gym leader because the fact they became a gym leader with bug types is kinda cool and terrifying at the same time lol

I didn't comment before, but I was certainly thinking of Bugsy's team, when I first saw it here. And it shows drastically/obviously in what I had ever imagined in his true power. Great offensive synergy & defensive utility across the board here, Checks to get Bugsy out in a pinch in just about any situation with intelligent planning, and pokemon (on paper) that look very threatening, but are oddly enough underrated in this sense. This is just a well-rounded team in all respectively, with a phenomenal strategist of a trainer, despite being relatively mono Bug type. 😉
Rock/bug is my favorite type combo. Takes neutral damage from flying, fire, ground, fighting, and grass attacks. Plus both types are seen as two of the weakest.
Soul Guide I think the Anime makes it clear. But keeps the voice just androgynous enough to make you think twice. Besides, Ash is voiced by a girl but that’s the trope of having adult females voice pre-teen boys.

Shame that Bugsy hasn't made an appearance in the current gen, the bug-types in Gen 7 and 8 are definitely viable options. Heck, in my Sword and Shield playthroughs, I used a Golisopod and a Vikavolt, respectively.
So just finished watching Bugsy DESTROY everyone in the Johto True Power Tournament. They need to remake the Gold/Silver and put him as the Final Elite 4 member.

My personal "perfect" picks for Bugsy's team, including all non-legendary bug types in the games (not just mons Bugsy used): Shuckle Mega Beedrill Scizor Volcarona Araquanid Galvantula This way, we get: -Choiced Technician STAB Bullet Punches from Scizor, I don't really think I need to explain what Scizor is supposed to do. -Adaptability STAB U-Turns from Beedrill to keep up momentum and switch into tankier counter picks like Araquanid, Shuckle, or Scizor, Drill Run for Ground coverage which is otherwise basically non-existent in this team. -Araquanid to utterly wall all fire moves, OHKO fire mons with STAB Water Bubble Liquidation and potentially provide support through Magic Coat, Icy Wind, Power Split, or even Water Sport for late game Scizor supportive tech. -Volcarona for Quiver Dance sweeps and otherwise non-existent Fire coverage (and, outside of Scizor, the only potential anti-Steel pressure on the team). Does general Volcarona things. -Galvantula for Compound Eyes STAB Thunder, outside of moderately fast extremely hard hitting Electric coverage (which makes it the primary anti-Flying core of the team), outside of the special offense, also serves a role as an ability suppressor (with Gastro Acid) and is the secondary Sticky Web spreader. -Shuckle is the core support mon of the team. With Sticky Web, Power Split, Stealth Rock, and has Rest for recovery. Is entirely/almost entirely shut down by Taunt, but so long as you get Sticky Web off Shuckle's primary role is fulfilled on the team. Any additional hazards, support, or health chipping (from Infestation, Rocky Helmet, or Toxic) is preferrable to get off as well, but is ultimately just adding onto your advantage. Shuckle can be freely switched out once any necessary conditions you've set for your opponent have been made in your opinion, but of course switching always presents a risk and the rest of your team are only situationally tanky (Scizor is tanky in everything but against a single stray Ember or Fire Spin, Araquanid can tank even some of the most powerful Eruptions and Burn Outs, but gets destroyed by a stray Spark or Wing Attack, Volcarona eats Fire, Grass, and Bug moves for breakfast but gets nuked by a single Rock Throw, etc etc etc). So be careful with switching out even if you've fulfilled all of your "necessary" plays with Shuckle first. This team covers all of Bug's weaknesses with at least 1 dedicated counter each (Galvantula for Flying, Scizor for Rock, Araquanid for Fire), it also covers some non-super effective resistances to itself naturally (Beedrill and Scizor for Fairy, Volcarona for Steel), and the remaining ones (Fighting, Poison, and Ghost) are easily taken care of through coverage moves (plus Scizor is immune to Poison type moves, making Scizor vs Poison in Scizor's favor depending on the Poison type mon). This team also coincidentally does well in 3 different types of weather, Scizor and Shuckle can both take advantage of Sand, Galvantula and Araquanid can take advantage of Rain, and Volcarona can take advantage of Sun (Volcarona and Scizor both are also super effective against the only mons that can take advantage of Hail).

This team is spot on, exactly what I would have gone with for him. It reflects on his Johto origins with the beastly Scizor, Heracross. Mega Beedrill provides the Kanto connection and a suitable and unique mega. Shuckle and Forretress are iconic for their bulk and utility, also hailing from Johto. Lastly Yanmega is the glue of it all, providing a special attacker and a display of a new evolution for a formerly basic Yanma form. While obviously not the best possible bug mono, it’s still balanced and represents Bugsy perfectly.
Looking at Bugsy's team he has a all the bug pokemon that can mega-evolve. I'm really curious how strong he would be if he could freely mega-evolve. Also, great video.
I would love to see all the gym leaders come to a new game in a battle factory cenario instead of ransome trainers. Each level could be a different region with the e4 being the bosses.

I want to see a Pokemon game where the gym leaders don't focus on type advantage but rather other strategic battle considerations; physical attackers, special attackers, physical walls, special walls, weather, set up, entry hazards, ect. But sadly my dreams will probably never be :/
shuckle is untiered because it is outclassed by more reliable walls or defensive cores such as skarm-bliss/chansey, but it would be PU or maybe NU if it could be supported
One more pokemon not mentioned. If Bugsy has a shedinja then more than likely he has a ninjask as well. Unless he found shedinja in the wild with is a possibility but given his status as a bug expert, he most likely evolved his nicada because to see in the wild a trainer would have to release his shedinja.
I think Mega Scizor would be a good alter Mega since he had Syther on his Gym team and since he is from Johto he should have a Mega Johto Pokemon and do Burgh’s best team next.

I would really like to see Claire next. She has the type expert feel like Bugsy but she isn't nearly as nice which I love.
I want to see a Pokemon game where the gym leaders don't focus on type advantage but rather other strategic battle considerations; physical attackers, special attackers, physical walls, special walls, weather, set up, entry hazards, ect.
But sadly my dreams will probably never be :/

I predict in the future that there will be a type of pokemon that is weak to grass, bug, and normal, and strong against electric types.
shuckle is untiered because it is outclassed by more reliable walls or defensive cores such as skarm-bliss/chansey, but it would be PU or maybe NU if it could be supported
One more pokemon not mentioned. If Bugsy has a shedinja then more than likely he has a ninjask as well. Unless he found shedinja in the wild with is a possibility but given his status as a bug expert, he most likely evolved his nicada because to see in the wild a trainer would have to release his shedinja.

I think Mega Scizor would be a good alter Mega since he had Syther on his Gym team and since he is from Johto he should have a Mega Johto Pokemon and do Burgh’s best team next.
