It's insane that Nora Owen's oldest son was cought driving a car with a vast amount of cocaine in it. When the cops stoped the car he was noted as saying "do you know who my mother is" ? The only difference between the government and an ordinary descent criminal is that one sports a shirt and tie and sits in a heated office the other doesn't .
Is taking some of the money a real substitute for solving the crimes and convicting for murder? What criminal wouldn't take a deal to pay the tax and a fine and you walk free with some of your assets and a clean slate. In a way the state is accepting that the biggest criminals cannot be convicted, The CAB is not unlike NAMA in that it cost a lot more to operate than it ever recovered. Like NAMA it turned out to be the least worst option. Although NAMA hid a lot of its poor performance by setting low property values when they were the only sellers in the market.
For the Irish Taxman /revenue service crime defo pays. 10 million to start. Then a further 17.5 mill. Robbing bastards these taxmen. The crown wants its cut and more millions were taxed.
