Late but I'm going thru Famidaily and just watched this and it got me interested in the game. So I went ahead and did a speedrun of it, I really enjoyed the cryptic nature of the game, the solutions are interesting and the game isn't very difficult once you know everything.
I'd heard of this one but never gave much thought to checking it out. but hearing its basically an upgraded expansion to the arcade game, actually sounds like fun for the most part. also first shmup I've seen that needed a guide (outside of guardic gaiden, and that's just for the zelda-ish parts)
Xevious was never one of my favourite games (the genre had moved beyond this point by the time I really got into video games), but this looks like a significant downgrade from a gameplay perspective.
I like how you can see when the universal background color suddenly changes in the "margins" that emulators don't include.
You can turn off screen overscan cropping in almost any emulator to get accurate garbage data in the overscan margins.
