      bolit45 insign88 wrong the small ship was at anchor, you can clearly see in the video. So he has the right of way and the bigger ship's captain is an a--hole and should not be piloting a ship period.

      @Infandous Ktenology they presented the bow of their ship so they would have less damage themselves. In the front of the ship theres seperate watertight compartments so if only one gets hit you can stay afloat. Colliding sideways will rip the hull up like the titanic. Its not supposed to be done but happens a lot. They were both at fault i think because the small ship has the responsibility to contact the big one and carry anchoring signals such as anchorlights /anchor ball to show they are anchored and i cant seem to find one.

      0:53 you can see the ripples in the water those were Marco's previous tracks he was trying to cross this VLCC but came short.Dropped anchor to avoid collision but too late though.He has speed so clearly he was not at anchor.But really stupid mistake by both vessels.Clear visibility on a fucking perfeclty calm seas with superb weather.I don't understand how can you mess this one up.VLCC should have steered hard starboard and Marco hard port as early as possible.Why have a standoff?fucking assholes.The threat to marine environment was great on this one,Thats a fucking VLCC good God!

    It is apparent that this is an anchorage. Probably the vlcc was anchored as well and went under way, but there was not enough room to swing or the made a bad turn and run into rhe bulker. Vlcc's need long time to heave anchors. The wind and current might have set them too close onto the bulker, whe heaving anchor. In any case, the investigation report for the case won't be difficult to find.

    I could never understand how this is possible? How can a captain not see a massive ship coming towards his vessel?

    • @AllanHazen
      @AllanHazen ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Seeing and being able to do something about it are two entirely different things. Those ships can take 3/4 of a mile to 1 mile to turn. Usually collisions like this happen in close quarters like in the video or due to mechanical failure of some sort. Though failure to follow maritime laws also can be a cause. In maritime law the larger vessel has right of way.

      @@AllanHazenDon’t know much about what happened here. You are correct 👍 except that between these boats, size doesn’t dictate who has right of way. Licensed capt here.

      @@sailinghopes3943 Proper Captain here; the vessel underway has an obligation to avoid a vessel at anchor. So the tanker Master is at fault here. Although of course the poor Master of the bulker will get some blame for not getting underway and avoiding the tanker. But realistically (not legally) how could you expect the bulker to do that?

    Big ships believe in or not play chicken and this is very common as ships are in a hurry and both always think the have the right of way or put theirselves in a dangerous position to get other's to change course.

    It is only my poor guess but tanker was probably following routine course while bulk carrier Marco was at anchor at the borders of permitted anchorage ...disengaging auto pilot she doesn,t seem to reverse but certainly stopped with poorer rudder respond.... thus the bump ..if this is a long time anchor probably only watchman was on Marco and didn,t even come on deck......Captain of Hirmand ordered departure full ahead (like hit and run haha)....the oil spill on the port side of Marco may be accidental
