  • A lovely song to play. :-)
This lesson is based on John’s acoustic version of the song.

Cool to see how the chords of the chorus are identical to the ones in "Sailing Outdoors" (From the Sounds Inside) which was written before this one i think. Both songs are amazing. Great lesson dude, love the energy!

How on earth do you play your B chord like that cleanly? That way looks easier but I can't do it without muting my e string

    • @Vigi
      @Vigi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

It is as easy as it looks for me at this point. The low e is muted with the top of your index finger. The high e is muted with your ring finger. Practice it over and over and then it will be part of your muscle memory. Being able to play the chord like that makes it easier for you to switch between chords and it makes it easier to add fills. You become more free as you travel over the fretboard. :)

You can also make the B mayor chord with the classic mayor bar chord way starting at the seven fret. It’ll sound similar.

@@AntConHer True, but I'll have to add that the voicing of the chord becomes different. So at the end of the day, I highly recommend being comfortable doing both in order to be able to do the most suitable voicing for different situation. :)

A song to play when I'm lonely
When I never play a game again
No one to face when I'm falling
Holding tight to dreams that never end
    I'll be you
    I do
    i'll be you
    No one's afraid
To be called by another name
No one dares to be good
    Down where they don't belong
    Nowhere's anyone's reason
    Everythings dying then revened
Out with these faults and you make me, baby
Faking a movement by no one seeing it
No one always find peace alone
No one choses to beat my pride down
    Someone's pierced right through me
People failed me being drawn up
So hard to fade a few moments
Love and pain are being clung to
    By losing us
    Falling
    Only waiting for
    Long times to be wrong
    And true to us
Out of place in my own time
    Drowning thinking that I'm dry
Hold on to facts that will never be proven
Faking an action cause no one is looking
    Hello and I'm crashing
Feel nothing when my life's flashing before my eyes
    She'll look through me down
    It's haunted so much
(I'll be you, I do, I'll be you)
A song to play when I'm lonely
Win and never play a game again
No one to face when I'm falling
Holding tight to dreams that never end
    I'll be you
    I do
    I'll be you
No one's afraid to be called by another name
No one dares to be put down where they don't belong
    Nowhere's anyone's reason
    Everything dying and leaving
Out with these faults and you make me baby
Faking a movement but no one's seeing it
No one always finds peace flung
No one chooses to beat my pride down
    Symbols pierce right through me
People fail to be drawn up
    Sunlight to fate accumulates
Loving pain to be clung to
    Luminous bodies
Only waiting for long signs to be wrong
    And true to us
Out of place in my own time
    Drowning thinking that I'm dry
Holding onto facts that'll never be proven
Faking an action cuz no one's looking
    Hello when I'm crashing
Feel nothing when my life's flashing before my eyes
    You should've threw me down

This is a great tutorial for advanced guitar players! Very fun to watch and follow along the chord names. It would be super fun to see you branch out a bit from the RHCP/Frusciante style to bands like Arctic Monkeys or Gorillaz (just a thought) and add some verbal instructions to the tutorials. Not too long, 7-10 minutes max. You are off the charts in guitar playing and imho, other beginner to medium level players could learn a lot from you :)

    • @Vigi
      @Vigi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Thank you very much! You are presenting great improvement ideas. The thing with Frusciante is that there are a lot of material from him that there aren’t lessons for so for that reason there’s a lot more I want to do. I also like having a certain niche, but of course that doesn’t stop me from also branching out. And verbal is a really good idea. :)
These videos are also helpful for me because it helps me remember of to play the song, not taking longer than the length of the song. :)

    • @EminaS
      @EminaS 4 ปีที่แล้ว

The Virtuoso none taken. Yes it is, for me personally obviously. Vigi's already done this by now in newer tutorials (Breaking the Girl) which even a noobie like moi-self could follow and understand and now that I can at least decipher it and have attempted it I understand it's scary as f*ck but actually really fun and challenging - again, for me! But it was great to finally hear Vigi speak in a tutorial in a way I understood, bc until now he's been speaking to guitar gods, the likes of you and many other followers, and then one day he was speaking to me, human, too.
