Nestor Rodriguez you know he’s a car guy when....
...he points out the tailgate is styled to reflect the grille bars.
...when he cherishes patina, but fabricates custom sponsons for the headlights so he can cover the shock mounts
...when he fabricates the roll cage to perfectly exit the cab roof at the visual apex of the roof corners
...when he doesn’t paint anything on the motor orange or neon green
...when the spartan seats don’t look retro, they look comfortable and artistically reflect the continuity of the build
You know he's a car guy when... He built that thing...(not to mention drives it, and took it on a 3hr round trip just so we could see it.) Love the way it's built, it's certainly not a Rat Rod in the sense it's come to mean. I'd say it's what Rat Rods *should* be like, well engineered and put together properly.
Brian’s attention to detail, and excitement while going over the truck is rad. Something about good conversation between an older guy and his strong passion for automotive is always a good time. Great episode, would love to have this even as a hot wheels car.
Perhaps Brian and Dan should do one together?? Brian's passion, Dan's fab knowledge.....

Brian it's interesting you mention Harry Miller. Hot rods of the 40's, 50's and 60's were traditionally built by teenagers who used older cars because that's all they could afford. Most 17 year olds in 1957 weren't buying Tri-5 Chevy's because it was too much money. This to me looks like the hot rod Harry Miller would've built if he were a teenager in the late 50's or early 60's. Way less "rat rod" way more tribute to young 50's and 60's hot rodders, building with whatever they could cheaply get their hands on. Great stuff lads!

Beautiful truck. I love this segment because of the variety. Not just drifters, but, off road, center drive and this beauty.
This thing’s probably got so much torque that it doesn’t move forwards along a road, instead it rotates the earth beneath it.

I'm so glad that this guy is finally getting so much recognition for his awesome truck. He's had it for a long time and drives it all the time.
This is a very nice build! When I look at this build I see a lot of hours of back breaking work , bloody knuckles and enough cussing to make a sailor blush. You have to show respect to a man that puts that much determination into a project like this.

This truck was so well built and thought out that I'm not even upset that it didn't tear up the lot.
Hurray a Build Biology that lets me listen to the engine. This needs to keep happening. I don't mind the music but I need to hear how the vehicles sound. It is one of the big reasons I watch you guys.

It can't be a rat Rod because the front suspension isn't a poorly dropped axle booger welded to a transverse leaf and held on by 2 flimsy split pins.
Now that Dan is going to have another show, can Scotto do the build biology for now on??? No offense to Dan but Scotto has a lot of knowledge when it comes to stuff like this.
We will continue to swap out the hosts depending on the cars. Different people are suited to different cars.
Dan is better because he doesn’t walk all over the car owner when they’re explaining things. More info could be put forth and Scott walked all over that shit
Dan dosen’t ask enough questions he just points things out. Whenever he makes episodes it feels like they’re over very quickly or they’re very boring

I dont think the F6 came around till 1950, where as in 49 the F5 was as big as you could get.

Trap Lord Jake, I had a 63 f100 dually, was an old wrecker. It had a 292 flat tappit v8. Low compression. Fairly decent motor. I have never owned a diesel. I will take your word for it being best. Personally I wished I did have my 63 with a diesel. Woyld have been great.
I’m at 300k on mine and its been one of the most reliable vehicles I’ve ever owned and also my first diesel

Holyshit!! Last year I was roadtripping the west-coast for three months (I'm from The Netherlands and have family in and around LA). My uncle took me to the Pomona swapmeet and it just absolutely blew my mind. And this truck was there too! I made tons of pictures of it, and thought it was the most awesome car of the day. It's so cool to see this thing here and have a lot of the stuff I had questions about answered. This truck is absolutely amazing. I love every bit of it.

I love these types of builds where oem parts are used for custom applications, ensures that you can easily find replacements if needed pretty much anywhere...

No intercooler would be better than running this... Hot air through the radiator would increase air intake temp not lower it
When it becomes a hot wheel. some kids gonna buy it for a $1 and roll it down a hill and crash it. I think we all did it as kids. (Fun fact) theres more Hot Wheels then real cars!! #LEGENDS TOUR

I would like to know how Mitch would have ended any of the fifteen sentences he was interrupted in the middle of. Tall kid needs a refresher in listening to people rather than showing off how much he knows.
heatshield : It would have been great to hear this owner/fabricator chat about his ideas and method. A lost opportunity with our host interrupting constantly. Better to have a two part visit then trying to compress this beautiful creation into one episode.

Very cool to see a retro fit of something so obscure, his knowledge of something other than LS, 2J, SR etc is refreshing, starting to understand Scotto`s obsession with his collection now.
Scotto's amazement with old cars is how Nads should be with Hondas.
I can really appreciate Brian's input on this Build Biology. A lot of obscure knowledge and his appreciation for the design and engineering, as with all of the BB episodes. The devil's in the details.
Dan is cool but Brian brings and shares so much knowledge. I vote for a 50/50 host split

Love seeing Mitch and his 49 on your build biology segment. I happen to be lucky enough to be a neighbor and friend of Mitch, and love to talk about his craftsmanship whenever we are at local car shows. Mitch and his son Derek have been building a 1946 Willy's CJ2A for me, removing it from the 4 wheel drive world and taking it into the slammed on the ground, lay frame so to speak, rusty custom build like the 49

Collin Campbell While that differential is fairly large it’s not at all the right shape for a D80, looks a lot more like a Sterling 10.25” rear end, which would be much more likely under his 96 Ford donor.
Even as a chevy guy this build is bad ass. I love watching these BBDs because it gives us home guys ideas. I'm building a 66" chevy dually at home by my self/ friends
