Exactly! That way the population centers like L.A., NYC, Chicago, Houston, and the larger cities can control who gets elected and therefore direct policy for the entire country.
Totally because an actual good candidate would speak to all the conservative people in cities (made invisible by the lameo popular vote system) AND the conservatives that live in the country to build a functional collation. I know those last two words are foreign to a republican but try google! It boils down to the best ideas speaking to the most people to get the most votes. All Ron DeSantis had to do was literally present himself differently. That’s all he had to do. Instead, he chose to embrace going far right. Oh, he had to do was literally behave like the governor from Georgia we lost, but we can do better that’s all he had to do that’s all he had to say. Yes it would’ve ruffled the base but he would’ve secured the middle of the role Republicans and then he could’ve fought for independent voters. He wouldn’t have had to worry about other competitors entering the race. He would’ve really had a chance, but he shows to go far right he didn’t see another way to win Primary, unless you embraced The Republican base he didn’t want to risk trying to fracture that base because they really wouldn’t have left Donald Trump. It would’ve still been an uphill battle but he would’ve had a realistic chance of winning now the Republican Party has a problem they are fully the Donald Trump party that’s it. This was their one chance to get off of those train tracks now they are full, MAGA. I don’t use that term positively or negatively. That’s just a doctrine they embrace. That’s the slogan if you will. Nothing else is going to break that apart now not for the next 20 years it’s going to take an outside force to make this party change, and if they don’t change, America could be in trouble. We had a two party system that functioned well not perfectly, but it was OK now we’re too divided to function properly to divide to get anything done of note.
Halley came in third in Iowa, but DeSantis didn't win even one district. In a general election that would make DeSantis the total loser of that state.
There were a ton of people who swapped parties just to vote for her though. Trump will will overall even if she somehow won NH. This is pointless.

Haley knows that trump is also battling time - the longer things draw out the more chances for trump to foible in one of his court cases, or mix up what decade we are in. If they all cede the nomination to trump - he'll claim that we "should just let the people decide" instead of face justice. Niki needs to stick it out until the bitter end, she'd be stronger against joe anyways.

I'm barely old enough to remember when a president could win 49 states. This division makes me sad. There's no way that's just me.
Yeah - it's not just you the vast majority of both sides dislike the division. I think it's been created or exasperated by faux news, they pedaled fear and hate of the other (west vs east, islam vs christianity, immigrants) for decades! They also helped perpetuate the compromise is weak & you making progress is me loosing (i.e. extremist) approaches. I think trump swooped in and co-opted that crowd, now they can't get rid of him (look up trump reads The Snake - it's too perfect)...furthermore he's convinced the true believers that faux is full of a bunch of RINOs, taking things even farther to the right. Whatamess! Odd thing is people on both sides still have lots of things in common; wedge issues aside. But media (both sides) sells eyeballs by reporting on the division. So parts of it are stuck in vicious cycles - but the intersectionality of issues offers hope. You know it's a sad state when the ray of hope is our problems are so big they bind us together but hey that's America - and when the dust settles we are all Americans. We just need delay-tactics donnald to get through his court cases, or something else to help the cult snap out of it.... Nikki Haley should make Trump supporters the issue. She should separate her more "educated" voters, by calling Trump a dictator who doesn't care about our Constitution. And, if you vote for Trump, you may never vote in a free and fair election again. Just an idea.
