We meet 15 year old Shelby Hartgrewe plowing.
Other events you will see in this video:
Next we watch as competitors hand pick corn and toss into a horse drawn wagon.
Cedar shingles are sawed with power coming from a belt driven by a tractor.
Crushing stone for field lime in an old belt driven crusher.
Saw milling hardwood in a large band saw.
Tom Renner discusses a time when a vendor showcased a new implement costing $500,000. He explained that it was essentially equipment invented 100 years ago and the cost of the implements today, including the horses for power would only be $2500.
Lastly we hear from John Harryman and Chad Lamontagne representing the National Resource Conservation Service. They discuss the importance of soil health and farming techniques to preserve and/or improve it. Chad is a soil scientist and he shows us the different layers of soil in a pit and explains what is in them, how they evolved and what to do to make the soil healthy.
