  • This is a very rare car, and certainly the first Vauxhall Victor Estate we have owned over the past 25 years. Adding to the rarity value, this wonderful time warp has only covered 45100 miles and comes with its original manuals, handbooks, brochure, original colour chart, spare keys and service book. Adding to that, the Vauxhall is supplied in its original colours, original specification and has had just a handful of owners.
SPH 387M was supplied new by B J Baker Motors Limited, London Street, Chertsey on the 1st August 1973 and the original service book has been stamped by the supplying dealer for its pre delivery check, first month check on the 6th September 1973 and the cars first service on the 25th July 1974 at 5154 miles. Various tax discs show the Victor Estate was in use during the early 1980's and by 1985 the car had covered 26622 miles. From 1986 to 1997 the Vauxhall was unused and from 1997 to 2005 covered just 90 miles.
In June 2005 the Victor sold to an owner in the Dulwich Park area of London who began to use and enjoy the car. In early 2005 the cambelt was changed and the car serviced, and from 2005 to 2014 Blackheath Motor Services in Greenwich maintained the car. The car was treated to new tyres, a stainless steel exhaust and various servicing and maintenance on an annual basis. Since 2005 18500 miles have been covered in the Vauxhall and its has arrived with a mileage recorded at 45100 miles.
SPH 387M is a genuine time warp, the car is so honest, original and lovely throughout. Structurally this rare Estate car is excellent, its clearly never had much exposure to salt on the roads and there are no signs of major repairs. The body is lovely and straight, paintwork is aged, honest but well presented and the interior just glorious and original. The 2.3 litre engine is unbelievably sweet, it sounds superb, ticks over perfectly and is lovely and quiet as you would expect with the low mileage. Its fantastic to drive, a proven reliable classic Estate car that you just don't see. This is a rare chance to acquire a low mileage, genuine and original Victor Estate that's ready to go.

I've only just come across this video 3 years on & the memories came flooding back.
I used to drive a Red M reg Victor Estate occasionally when I was an apprentice at Frigidaire (1972-76). Frigidaire was a division of GM at the time so we had all sorts of Vauxhall & Opel cars on the fleet which I had access to if my regular CF Bedford van was not available.
The speedo on on the Red Victor estate I drove would often not work at all but not because it was broken. It was because after using it during the day for work on Fridays I would "engineer" a late return to the North London factory so I couldn't put the car back in the car pound & had to take it home with me. Once home I then slid under the car & removed the speedo cable from the gearbox so it didn't register the extra miles I would put on it over the weekend when I would take my girlfriend down to the coast, to Brands Hatch, Santa Pod etc. As an estate it was a great car for an overnight camp out. Reconnect the speedo on Sunday evening & take it back to work on Monday morning🤭. No one checked the fuel levels in those days & if it was getting low I would fill it up at the factory petrol pump for free - just signed a chit for how much was put in with no record of the mileage. The fuel consumption on that Victor must have been terrible 😆.
Sadly the N.London GM factory is no longer there but was also home to AC Delco (my dad worked for them), Opel Cars HQ & a few other GM owned companies.

My brother had a 2300 FE saloon and I drove it a lot after my motorbike crash in 1976. It being an auto was great for me as I could not press a clutch at the time. Its often a belief that the 50's and 60's Vauxhall rusted because of the metal they used. In my opinion it was caused by poor design. The amount of mud traps and poor sealing of the panels would let water in and it stayed in the floor pans after being soaked up by the felt underlay. You could smell it. This is a very good well presented video and I thank you for posting it. If I had the money I would buy it.

Thank You. This takes me back to 1974 when I drove my Father's 2300 FE as a 17 years old learner driver. I appreciated and liked that car a lot. A Great Family Car for its time.

Good honest professional review. I worked for Shaw and Kilburn group in 1984-1987. And yes, the gearboxes were OK, but not as good as ford. The mk2 Carlton 1.8's suffered terribly. I'm a ford man to be fair, but if that was for sale today and I had the money, I'd have it without a thought just from your video. 👍

Great video. And I had the exact same model, same colour, back in 1985-87 in Denmark. Loved that car and the space it had in the back. Almost got tears in my eyes watching this. Thank you.

I had an FE1800 Estate it was the best car I have ever owned, it went on for 300,000 miles. Later I had various 2300 and VX models, they rotted like anything. I went on to get a Ventora 3.3 the head kept warping, but the bodywork was made of thicker and better metal like the estate and didn't rust.

I remember selling the VX 1800 and 2300 new. Showing my age! Along came the Cavalier and we were in a different era at Vauxhall. Opel deigns of course.
