This video is exceptional teaching, I am a 6 handicap and began to come across the ball at times. I took this advice on the course the other day and the results were amazing. 3 simple swing thoughts really work . I have watched countless videos on golf instruction, but nothing as great as this. All this teaching for free , such a thank you for you your teaching is by far the best I have ever seen 👍
I have to say this is the best channel for golf. You do an exceptional job with theory but adding practicality/real life drills and actionable techniques. Kudos to you!
I have been on on a youtube golf binge on this topic and this video is one of the best! One of those videos that makes you want to get to the range ASAP.
Same here. Now Golf has become a really nice hobby without frustration. Just finished my alltime best 81 (Par 72 Slope 140 a Forrest Course with no rough, fairway or trees)
Hey Clay! at the 6 minute mark you gave me some info that has revolutionized my game. I have been playing 50 years and I am hitting the ball the best I ever have! Thanks
The first 8 mins is EXACTLY what’s holding me back. I’m a 12 and have been trying to get single digit for 2 years and this is the problem. For some reason, it’s only with my driver and 3 wood. It’s gotten so bad lately that I get anxiety when I get on the tee box. Going to take these thoughts to the range today...I’ve got to work this out! Thanks Clay!
Hadn't played golf in years besides using the driving range a handful of times and a couple of rounds last 2 years. Never could hit my driver straight. Watched a few of his videos and alot of practice swings in my room and I used the range at work(work at a golf course) and every drive was straight. Had always been real good with my irons but not so much with the woods. Going to start playing again.
Clay, I’ve played for years and watched many videos, but your instructions and videos are awesome! Thank you for helping others and myself to enjoy golf more!! Keep the videos coming!
Amazing teaching video. Relatively straightforward concepts that are nearly impossible for amateurs to internalize and execute. These videos are great.
I've been struggling when I'm not with a pro to get it shallow...but using the right hand to get it shallow at the top of the swing makes a ton of sense! It's crazy that I've watched so many videos on shallowing but haven't seen someone mention using the right hand. Thanks Clay!!
"Lets give it a whirl here " lol love it! Clay's the best teacher among many good teaching pros. Laid back approach but great technique works best ! :)
Thanks for your awesome Videos. Your drills are just simple and perfect. After 10 years slicing...that curve is thanks to you finally gone (at least 8 out of 10)
Amazing. I've taken dozens of lessons over the years and watched dozens of videos. Nobody ever told me about how my right hand should feel. This has already made a huge difference after just one trip to the range. I became an all access member to say thanks! Where can I get that hat?
Oh, wow. I wish you've released this video a long time ago. I'm experiencing these moves from watching Collin Morikawa, Brook Koepka and Dustin Johnson videos and practicing on my swing. It took me few months to figure out all of these movements. But thanks for the video, at least your video validates my discovery, :)
Hello, I appreciate the instructional videos from you. Shallowing the driver was no exception. I keep discovering new details. Just to make sure I understood correctly. Is it the case that you are delofting the driver in the downswing?
I found this to be incredibly insightful. I took the lesson here and applied it to my practice and saw immediate results, but I can see from the video recording of my swing that my hips stop firing close to impact. Instead, the shoulders and hips seem to be moving together... the club is no longer steep, and the impact is MUCH better, but I can see my body almost doing a reverse C now. However, I'll take it cause the dispersion is so much less now. Any drills specifically for learning how to keep the hips firing all the through before impact?
Great Video! Your instruction has definitely helped me to not be so over the top. I need to work on the wrist move. When exactly should I start to roll my wrists-at the top and then again on the downswing?
It's less important when you roll your wrists when doing "The Move" and more important that you actually do. Most people cannot bow their wrist like Dustin Johnson at the top, so they find it easier to do it during the downswing. Play well! Nate |TSG
That's another great instruction video from you Clay. Do you have close the driver face at the top of the backswing and also again on the downswing when your club is near parallel to the ground?
What matters most is what happening at impact. As long as the face is in the correct position by impact, it doesn't matter if you adjust it at the top of the backswing or during the backswing. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor
Never noticed the wrist turn before makes perfect sense. Felt like I was manipulating my golf shot by turning my wrist through the ball and not turning my wrist while I'm shallowing the club if that makes sense at all lol good stuff
Clay, I find you videos extremely helpful and I work on your instructions on the range. On the range, I can hit beautiful shots, draw the driver etc. As soon as I get on the course here if lately, it all goes to pot, I am now duck hooking drivers, hooking irons, missing huge greens etc. Essentially spraying the ball all over the course. What would you suggest for taking the range practice to the course. I strongly believe this is all a mental aspect. Thanks.
@@TopSpeedGolf Thank you. I especially like the idea of the 3 club routine. I am guilty of pulling out, usually beginning with a short iron and work my way up to the driver. I typically don't just bang balls, but try to pick targets and execute a shot. Again, thank you for replying.
This is a great video Clay. I appreciate you sharing your insights and expertise. I’m looking forward to implementing these drills and working to break 80!!!
It’s a great video Clay; and focusing on that dominant hand/wrist to get that feel to resonate seems like a better feel for me too. One question that relates to getting the face strengthened/squared for delivery into impact - do you think it’s better to get the right wrist/left wrist to do that swiveling move that squares the face early on as you’re dropping the shaft down into that shallow position? Or do you prefer to wait until you’re closer to moving through impact to get the face squared up? I like the feeling of getting rt wrist to extend backwards/left wrist to bow but not exactly sure as to whether it’s advisable to work that move during the shallowing piece or later on as you are moving into impact?
It only matters how the club arrives into impact but typically it's better to do it as early as you can in the downswing. If you don't then you're likely doing something else like flipping to compensate. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Just got back from the range. Much more consistent ball striking. But...some blocks out to the right. Maybe just off the right side of green. Is the “motorcycle” move to square up something to be done at the top of the downswing? Is there any moto move AT the ball? At impact?
Glad to hear you gained some consistency. You're likely just leaving the face open. I would try to get the face squaring as early as possible in the downswing.
Clay, I see that your right wrist gets cupped as you get to the top of the backswing. You said to keep the right wrist flat as we take the backswing. When do you start to cup the right wrist?
It can help to keep the trail wrist flat initially in the backswing so that the club doesn't get sucked too much to the inside. After the club gets to first parallel then you'll want to start cupping it to get the club in a good position at the top. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Just wondering. IF you take the club back on a shallower plane would'nt you be in the same position as shallowing at the start of the downswing? I know that's probably considered one plane, but what is the advantage of rerouting the club?
A two-plane swing has a longer arc and more potential power. However, both one and two-plane swings work with the TSG system. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor
This is great video Clay 👍. I will start my practice with your technique for the rest of this year and cannot wait to see what kind of results i will get. By the way, do you setup with close stance or neutral with this technique? Thanks so much for sharing your expert skills with us here.
At the top of my backswing, my right elbow is slightly away from my right side. My downswing thought is to tuck my elbow into my right side. Just doing this tuck brings the face of the driver into proper final alignment without intentionally twisting the wrists. Is this a good thought?
Brilliant people always talk about grip, hip rotation and so on which can't be ignored. But whrn and how to shallow club has been over looked. I always shallow at mid way take on my up swing but I know it can be done at any point in my down swing. I sorted thanks

On the "motorcycle" drill: At the top of my backswing my right wrist is cupped already (flat/bowed left wrist). So the motorcycle drill is a bit impossible - can't "throttle" it any more on downswing. Any advive?
Hello. I'm korean. In general, because Asians are short, a slightly plated swing is better than an upright shot. When a small player upright, the trajectory is not good, so the ball contact seems to be bad. thank you
Clay, what if I start with a closed face? I’ve been able to hit it solid without having to manipulate the face. But I start having issues when my grip weakens.
You can do that but it's usually not the best for speed and I often see flat backswing produce over the top downswings. Elevating the arms more in the backswing allows you to have more space to accelerate the club and create speed but requires you to shallow it in the downswing.
