🥇 i wasn’t kidding about binge watching your videos Matt lol. Congratulations on a fantastic time there! You made me shake my head in a funny way when you mentioned that you forgot to stop your watches at the end 😂🤦🏻♂️
Thanks for going back into the archives! 🤣 As far as forgetting to stop my watch, it seems like a very common thing for me to do; I forgot to start one of the watches at Boston this year too! I can never risk going back to wearing a single watch! 🙃
Thanks, Erik! It is a great HM course and I'm not disappointed with my time! Apart from when I'm talking on camera, I'm very quiet! Also, I usually cut out the gaps if i'm saying more than a few words because I need to catch my breath! 🤣 I guess I'm saying it's all smoke and mirrors!
I used to sell running shoes for a couple years as a part time job. I like the ON shoes but they just aren’t wide enough for my comfort for running. I like the way they feel and look, just not for running long distances. Been my observation that people either love them, or not at all. Hope they worked well for you. 🏅🏅
I am quite new to On, but I haven't found them particularly narrow (except for the Cloudboom Echo 3, but most race shoes are narrow). The Cloudeclipse that I wore for the warm up is fairly wide and crazy comfortable!
Great half and great video play by play! You know it is a windy day when Elite events does not put up their blow up finish line 🍎archway. (I got bored looking for the medal and gave you an apple)
@@its_Matt_B_ hi Matt, I’m training for Wellington half marathon on Feb the 18th, that will be bit hot & humid to, middle of Summer, the have another half marathon in April through Waitarere forest, would like to do Hawks Bay Marathon in May, all good 👍
🥇God I miss running at Nathan Benderson, even if these conditions weren’t ideal! That’s an awesome time, especially with those winds bro, I could almost feel them through my screen lol. I was gonna run this race last year if you remember but I ended up moving the week before 😔
Well done Matt! I almost drove down myself but CIM is still too fresh in my legs! Tougher conditions than I like to race in but we never have control over that part!
You made the right choice to skip it so close to CIM, and then with the conditions it would have seemed like everything was stacked against you! What's next for you?
Thanks, Jeff! Yeah, it wasn't pleasant....until I think about everyone up north struggling with the snow and cold. Then it doesn't seem too terrible! 🤣
❤ Well done & congratulations, Matt! Sorry I haven't been watching your videos for sometime 😢 Twisted an ankle just before the holidays, but really hoping to get back into running in January dome time. 🎊🥇
Thanks so much! Oh no! How did you twist your ankle? Ugh! It's a miserable thing to have happen! Glad to hear you're healing and will be back at it in Jan.!
Ugh! Sorry to hear it, even though I just laughed because of how you put it! I'm glad you're on the mend and hoping it won't be long until you're back at it.@@MelRunsThings
Man, wind and high humidity are killers for me. 70+°F with high humidity is oppressive, and wind just saps the energy. That’s a nice pull there, Matt. That means you have fitness for well under 90 minutes for a half (maybe closer to 85 than 90) if you get a race with fair conditions. Congrats!
Thanks for your congrats and for your confidence in me. I think you're right; with the right conditions I'm sure I'd be at least a few mins quicker. Still, I got the time I got and it's a good reminder to me that we don't have control over every variable and we don't always get what we want on race day! 👊🏽
Talking is probably the most difficult part. I talked more to the camera than Julian or anyone else I was running with. I had to stay pretty quiet and focused when the camera was off or my HR would be out of control!
Cheers, Michael! Yeah, it sounds funny to say but I suppose I am still feeling Toronto. I never gave myself a full recovery after that. Oh well! It was still loads of fun!
Nice work at the race need to work on setting the pace a little slower after mile 1 but overall you did great, and proper build should lead to a better race result
So what i'm hearing is correct planning, training, and race strategy are important aspects of a successful race? 🤣 Seriously though, thanks for your help! I appreciate you sticking with me! In an alternate universe with better conditions, I actually went out a little slow (that's how I'm choosing to look at it)!
😁 Yes, I noticed that! I have only been using Garmin for a couple months so it's still calculating my time. Surprisingly, my predicted time on Garmin dropped to 1:29:39 after this race.

Great run against the wind! 🥇And kudos to Julian to stick with you and give support! 👏
Cheers, mate! It was a good effort and it really makes a difference to have someone to run with.
This looks like a great run and rather good time! I'm always amazed that you have spare energy and breath to talk on during the runs. 🏅
Thanks, Erik! It is a great HM course and I'm not disappointed with my time!

🏅 Nice video, Matt. Running (and gasping in your wake), I echo your ego check... the conditions were less than optimal!
Thanks, Jason! Good seeing you out there! Misery loves company! 🤣
🥇Worst kind of conditions for the race, high temperature + high humidity. Well done.
Thanks for the medal and you’re right about the conditions! In the bright side, everyone there had the same setback! 💪🏽
I thought that was you, dont worry wheels came off at mile 9 for me too. Wind wasnt as bad as I thought expect a stretch there at the end was brutal
Congrats on your race! Glad to hear I wasn't alone in the struggle! I thought the south end of the lake was the craziest part with the wind!

Fantastic effort especially given the conditions! No one is talking about the Vic Bitter top though! Waiting for a XXXX top in the next one 🏅
Cheers, Andrew! I'm surprised that you're the first one to mention the VB shirt! I thought it would be talked about more than the race! 🤣
🥇 Solid race!
Thanks, Bryan! 🙌🏽
Great half and great video play by play! You know it is a windy day when Elite events does not put up their blow up finish line 🍎archway. (I got bored looking for the medal and gave you an apple)
Haha! I thought the same thing about the Elite Events arch! Thanks for the apple! I’d actually prefer an apple to a medal at the end of a race! 😄
Good running Matt, 01:30:30 is excellent for hot & windy conditions, good stuff, keep up the good work, onwards & upwards to what’s next 👍🏼👣🌲👆👍🍒✌️🌴😀

🥇Great effort in VERY windy and warm conditions. I didn’t even like walking the dog that morning in Parrish with the wind that hard! 👏

🏅 Nice one. The wind would have been a contributing factor to your time.
Cheers, Alan! Oh yes, the wind most definitely played a part! Still, no complains! We can't have perfect conditions at every race!
that wind is crazy...no wonder my wife wonders if runners are crazy.
Why would she wonder? 🤣
🥇Matt...I don't know how you talk, hold a camera, and run at max HR. That in itself deserves a metal.
