    I'm a Weber guy but i just purchased the SNS 18 on sale and I'msuper excited. I was torn between the Jumbo Joe and SNS 18. I was really turned off by the side air vents on the newer Jumbo's.

    The reason why I picked the SNS over the Weber when looking for a 18 inch travel, kettle, is the same reason why I picked the master touch over the original premium. If you get the cheaper, the jumbo Joe or the original premium in my case, to upgrade it to match the more premium option would take more money than if I just bought the SNS or the master touch. I knew that they were things I was gonna use and abuse. I just figured might as well and save money in the long run while I can!

    Have both, the SnS is the better grill. It addresses the Jumbo Joe's shortcoming very well. Yes the Jumbo Joe is initially cheaper but comes with plate steel grate that is not hinged for adding more charcoal, and no thermometer or charcoal basket. Just adding a 304 stainless steel grate brings the two prices much closer to each other. And the ash removal sweep in the SnS makes for easier clean-up and better airflow as well. It's an easy win in my book for the SnS.

    • @SilatShooter
      @SilatShooter 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ladbom I would agree it is flimsy but does provide function. Though the implementation should have been better. I still think the SnS is better compact portable charcoal grill than the Weber Joe. I had the Weber, and sold it. Having the stainless grate that easily rotates and the charcoal basket, makes for easy two zone grilling. How I use this grill 95% of the time. It's held up well for me.

    Thanks Tom, I just got a Jumbo Joe for Christmas. My first mod was to get the SNS basket so I have the best of both grills budget wise. I would like to see Weber add a ash sweep to the Jumbo Joe. Those ribs looked fantastic!

    In my opinion the SNS is basically a Jumbo Joe with all the bells and whistles. For the price point you probably can add the same mods with the Jumbo joe at almost the same or even less than the SNS. I did have that decision to make between the two of them and ended up getting the Jumbo Joe. I added some modifications except the charcoal sweep and am very happy with it. I just needed the same Weber design that is on their premium larger Kettle grills in a portable compact package and the jumbo joe delivers it.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    I have two Weber Jumbo Joes. One older with the vents on the side, used many time for lower\slower and a new one that hasn’t been used yet. The SNS is tempting, but wow, that price! I do like the idea of the sweep. SNS CO. is like the Chinese co’s. They almost duplicate a tried and true original, and make a few tweaks. Should be criminal, but the patents for Weber have long expired. If the price comes down, I might snag a SNS. Probably not for $200, including tax, etc..

      I used to have the older one. Bought it in 2005 and it was solid. I moved to Europe and left it with my mom, then she got rid of it which pissed me off. It was such a tank and probably would have lasted forever. When I go back to the U.S. I will get the updated version, but I would like your input.
      1. The new one seems more shallow. Meaning, the charcoal grate and grilling grate seem to be closer to each other. If true, then it would be easy for food to burn/cook too fast. Or, use less charcoal but then for long cooks, you'd have to add coals more often.
      2. It seems to be less of a tank, thinner. This is good in terms of portability because of less weight. For cooking, it wouldn't retain heat as well, so another reason to have to add more charcoal. Also, thinner means it can be more easily damaged due to some random accident.
      3. The thing I didn't like about the old one was the side vents. I felt it had poor airflow. The newer one with the bottom vents seems like an improvement, but maybe I'm wrong, about all three points.

    • @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ
      @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ  ปีที่แล้ว

      @trax4wax Thanks for Watching! The older ones were built more durable, you are correct, they still offer both style of vents, if you had the money, the SNS would be the one to get. If not the Weber still performs very well.
