I think Voldemort RESPECTS Nagini as an individual companion than loving or genuinely love her as a whole. As she shows respect to him as well. Between them, maybe, they only TRUST each other through communication in parseltongue. For instance, Voldemort was born with no love or understanding of what genuine love is while Nagini was betrayed and abandoned by the one (or many before) person she loved. To them, trust is everything above the level that love (by their understanding) is not allowed to be top priority.
