Just FYI the 25 year lifetime is usually to 80% of the original output, they don't just stop working at that time. And after 50 years it will be 80% of 80% or 64% of the original specs.
I have Tesla solar and I love it. My costs were half of what one of my neighbors paid. I also have a bigger system than my neighbor.. The only problem with Tesla solar is you need to have a roof that is not shaded. Tesla will not install with mini inverters. I was lucky because I have a 2 story house and no shading at all.
Glad you found it useful! Yeah, if you want to maximize savings then don't get the PWs. As long as you have enough space then panels only provides the best return on investment.
@@ScottAllison Because you have heat pumps, your PWs let you have heat and cooling in a power failure. Maybe not full heat if it's very cold and cloudy, but neighbors with gas furnaces won't have anything without a whole-house generator to light the furnace and power the blower fan.
@@ScottAllison Thank you for the reply. I'm deciding between Tesla and SunPower. Tesla is already lower cost, and it might be even lower if SunPower charges me extra for my roof like they indicated.
So by installing tesla solar panels you will not only save money on your electric bill but you will receive credited money back to you come tax season?
Dang I didn’t know that if the sun is shining, power goes out, you still can’t grab power from the panels. So let’s say you have power walls, those turn on when the power goes out, can the panels charge those as your using the juice from them at the same time?
Ok cool. Going through the process now in vegas and they said by august. I didn’t fully believe them. Sales guys will say anything. Are the powerwalls good enough to run your A/c during summer?
how long did it take them to install after placing the order?have you need any costumer service? I heard its a nightmare to contact anyone for support or fix issues,
Thank you for the information. Did not know that about the requirement for having an income to get the tax credit. Makes it tough if/when the home income is a retirement income. Wouldn't the main reason to have a power wall be to charge and store during the day, and run the household from the power wall during the evenings?
Yep you can do that! But if you produce way more during the day, you can export that to the grid and build up a credit with the utility. That's the most cost effective way to do it. PW are great but they're expensive.
@@ScottAllison Thanks! The only problem I have with home solar and utility relationship is the utility company seems to pay less per kW (what I would "export") than what they charge, don't they?
@@MS-md9dh yeah it's definitely better to oversize, that gives you room to get an EV or switch from gas furnace to a heat pump. But don't go crazy. NV Energy will never cut you a check, so you need to use what you earn.
I think "building codes" can be used as a catch all excuse, but ultimately it comes down to fire setback rules, and whether the structure can hold the weight.
I started in solar in 1979- the hard science and proof of solar panels being a good investment has been settled decades ago. But that is with conventional simple "traditional" solar panels where the basic design has not changed in 70 years. What people here are missing here is "How long will Tesla solar panels last?" Because unless their panels last 20-30 years without problems - you simply cannot say! The unusual complexity of their panels basic design makes the chances of that long life a very bad bet. Saying they are great in the first 5 years is like saying a car is reliable as you drive it off the dealers parking lot for the very first time! Sorry, but only 20-30 years of reliable performance in the real world will prove if their panels design is reliable and a good investment.

Great video. Glad I removed powerwall batt. from my order. Love the honesty about them in ur vid.

Great information, appreciate your video. I used your link the other day to save $500. Appreciate you
Thank you! Glad the info was helpful.
Did they charge extra for installation on your concrete tile roof??
No, they didn't!

@DirtComplex Sun power are usually the most expensive option around.

Yeah, they don't have to be Tesla ones. Any solar panels qualify for 30% tax credit.
@@ScottAllison that’s amazing. Thanks for the fast response too. 👍🏾
How's the customer service experienced if any problem arise/s?
I haven't had any issues so I can't really say.

Also I’m on NVEnergy too, they give you $3000 because of your power wall?
Yes, there's various settings you can choose from. You can send all the power to the batteries, or to power your house or send back to the grid.
@@ScottAllisonhow long did it take from when you put your $100 deposit down to when you got PTO?
About 6 months

Hi. I am also from Las Vegas. Is there a sales tax when you buy solar panels?

Yeah they do. In my case it's 75% but I've heard that it can be a lot less depending on where you are
@@ScottAllisonwhat is your experience with our Nevada net metering and do you recommend oversizing the system by 25% to compensate for net metering?

The charges you show, do they conver the installations as well as the inverter?
Yes, should be. Sometimes there may be a one off addition if there's something that needs upgraded, but normally solar rates are priced per watt
Is there sales tax on solar panels in Nevada?
It looks like I was charged 3.5% sales tax. Which is an odd amount. Hope that helps!
I have two coworkers. Non Tesla installers. They wouldn’t put panels over the porch. They were told they couldn’t. Do to building codes. 🤷🏾♂️

@@ScottAllison Vivint Solar had told one coworker that they could. Designed the system like that for them. The installers told him no. Crazy.
My electric bill averaged about $149 per month so I’m going to stick with coal and may get a solar backup system eventually.
