The first movie I saw Kevin Costner in was Silverado, in 1985. A Western. It's a really good one, too! With Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Jeff Goldblum, Danny Glover, John Cleese, Rosanna Arquette, Brian Dennehy and Linda Hunt.
I kid you not, I absolutely love the scene where they buy candy and cigars. So calming and comforting. But that's the idea, cause then the storm comes. Saw this in theaters just short of turning 13. Always found it a bit underappreciated, but as far as Westerns, especially modern ones, I get why it stands where it is.
That scene was very nice. 😊❤ I think this movie had it all. I don't see why or how it could be underappreciated. Well I enjoyed every bit of it 😊❤. I'm going to tell everyone about this gem. ❤

The owner of the stables was played by Michael Jeter, from my hometown. RIP. I have watched this so many times lol. I wish they hadn't had a 6 shot pistol shoot 13 times but I can overlook it. Watch "Appaloosa", another good western.

If you want another good western with a very young Kevin Costner I recommend Silverado. Not just Costner but Scott Glenn, Kevin Kline, Danny Glover, Linda Hunt, Brian Dennehy, Rosanna Arquette, John Cleese, Jeff Goldblum I mean the ensemble cast of that movie is incredible.
The ranch owner Baxter was Michael Gambon, who also portrayed the second Professor Dumbeldore in the Harry Potter movies, after the first Dumbeldore, Richard Harris died. Both Richard Harris and Michael Gambon were Irish, and Michael Gambon uses his original Dublin accent in this film, because his ranch owner character immigrated from Ireland. Michael Gambon also died not long ago, in September last year.

Open Range has gained a dedicated fan base over the years, especially for those who love the Western genre. Many praised the film for its authentic portrayal of life on the Old West. I'm just happy that it wasn't another revisionist or spaghetti western. We'd had enough of those, and not nearly enough classic westerns, where the good guys get to actually be good, and the world is not exclusively populated with greasy, terrible people. Watching most westerns made after 1970 you'd think that there were nothing but murderers and prostitutes settling the old west, which is absurd. It was mostly just regular people trying to make better lives for themselves.
I couldn't have said it better. I loved everything about this movie. I even thought it was neat adding in the rain and the flooding. My father and grandfather loved westerns. I'm surprised I haven't seen many. Then again I was just a child so I don't think I would appreciate them as much then when all I wanted to do was watch cartoons 😁😁. But I absolutely loved everything about this movie. I can't wait to check out the ones you have recommended and thank you for those also! Kevin Costner was in a really good Netflix movie called "The Highwaymen". He played Texas Ranger Frank Hamer who was responsible for tracking down and killing Bonnie and Clyde. It also stars Woody Harrelson. It's a great movie that centers more on Frank and, unlike other movies, is not center around Bonnie and Clyde. It also does nothing to glorify them, like other movies. They were stones cold killers in real life and this movie portrays them as such. It's worth watching and is about 85% historically accurate. The end of the manhunt was actually filmed on the same location it happen in real life.

'Dance with Wolves' is an epic movie starring Kevin Costner. 'Field of Dreams' is another must see Kevin Costner movie. FWIW 'Open Range is one of my favorites and partially because I have an enormous crush on Annette Bening.
Enjoyed this movie too. One would seem small thing but stuck with me or I recall when watching this was the shooting, especially at the end. The sound. It seems like it just had more powerful blast of fun shooting sound then regular movies, even other Western movies, if that makes sense
Costner stated it was done on purpose. I was lucky enough to see this in an advanced screening at a Theater with an enormous Sound System (back then) and when the guns were fired onscreen, you could actually hear audience reactions of awe and fear. You felt like you were in the middle of it.

When I saw this in the theater, I kept thinking “why is this rated R?” Then the gun fight happened, oh…that is why! What a movie! I watch it once a year.
Don't forget that Costner is releasing a new multi-part Western epic in theaters starting this summer -- 'Horizon: An American Saga'. First part comes out in June, second in August. Huge cast, plus the same Director of Photography as 'Open Range', so it should look spectacular. He's been working on it for several decades. I absolutely cannot wait.

When the American government refuses to to negotiate with Colombia rebels for the release of hostage Harry Burck and is unwilling to attempt a rescue mission, Harry's blue collar friends take matters into their own hands and hire a mercenary to lead them on their own mission to get Harry back. It's a B-movie, but is also an extremely 80s movie too. In the late 60s and the bulk of the 70s, patriotism was frowned upon, the military and veterans were reviled, and the American working class was viewed as ignorant and backwards, but around the mid eighties. that attitude started to reverse. "Let's get harry" typifies that pride in and empowerment of the "average Joe" and respect for Vietnam veterans grew during that era.
Abraham Benrubi (Mose) first hit the small screen in the 90s medical drama ER, that also started George Clooney & Antony Edwards in their careers. Annette Benning is married to Warren Beatty.

Wyatt Earp is good and another one that's romantic and great is Message in a Bottle with Robin Wright. Enjoy Open Range and have you watched Yellowstone. Kind of a bitter sweet story that happened to me some years back. Open Range has always been my favorite western movie, and I think its the best performance from Costner he's ever done. I became a fan of his because of this movie. And a couple years ago, I got the opportunity to be on the show Yellowstone. Needless to say I was excited for the chance. I ended up doing a rodeo scene in the 2nd season. We shot 1 night, but unfortunately Costner was not involved. A year after that, I got another chance to do it again. This time it was another rodeo scene and shot over 2 nights. During the 2nd night Costner had a roll. And I was planning on fan-boying hard and tell him how much I loved Open Range. But, before he came out, the director laid out the rules and boy he wasn't joking in his tone. We were not allowed to say, speak or anything to Costner. It was basically sit down, shutup, do as we say. Long story short, I never got a chance to actually meet him. However, I was close enough i could smell his cologne when he sat down. But, it was still an incredible experience nonetheless.

The Untouchables..Keven Costner is clean shaven..a real Boy Scout because he plays real life treasury agent, Elliot Ness going after Al Capone..Sean Connery won Best Supporting Actor..In Tin Cup..he plays a golf pro down in Texas..with Rene’ Russo..I know someone recommended Wyatt Earp, but Tombstone is better with Kurt Russel..it is more authentic..not that I’m an expert, but I am from Kansas, and Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson were deputy marshals in Wichita and Dodge City, Kansas..before The Gunfight at the OK Corrall..

Costner stated it was done on purpose. I was lucky enough to see this in an advanced screening at a Theater with an enormous Sound System (back then) and when the guns were fired onscreen, you could actually hear audience reactions of awe and fear. You felt like you were in the middle of it.

Don't forget that Costner is releasing a new multi-part Western epic in theaters starting this summer -- 'Horizon: An American Saga'. First part comes out in June, second in August. Huge cast, plus the same Director of Photography as 'Open Range', so it should look spectacular. He's been working on it for several decades. I absolutely cannot wait.

It's a B-movie, but is also an extremely 80s movie too. In the late 60s and the bulk of the 70s, patriotism was frowned upon, the military and veterans were reviled, and the American working class was viewed as ignorant and backwards, but around the mid eighties. that attitude started to reverse. "Let's get harry" typifies that pride in and empowerment of the "average Joe" and respect for Vietnam veterans grew during that era.

Kind of a bitter sweet story that happened to me some years back. Open Range has always been my favorite western movie, and I think its the best performance from Costner he's ever done. I became a fan of his because of this movie. And a couple years ago, I got the opportunity to be on the show Yellowstone. Needless to say I was excited for the chance. I ended up doing a rodeo scene in the 2nd season. We shot 1 night, but unfortunately Costner was not involved. A year after that, I got another chance to do it again. This time it was another rodeo scene and shot over 2 nights. During the 2nd night Costner had a roll. And I was planning on fan-boying hard and tell him how much I loved Open Range. But, before he came out, the director laid out the rules and boy he wasn't joking in his tone. We were not allowed to say, speak or anything to Costner. It was basically sit down, shutup, do as we say. Long story short, I never got a chance to actually meet him. However, I was close enough i could smell his cologne when he sat down. But, it was still an incredible experience nonetheless.
Thanks for sharing. Even if you didn't get to chat with Kevin, it's still a fun memory to have.

Dances with wolves is a great movie Costner is at his best you'll love it . Duvall is one of my favorite actors of all time you should check some of his movies or try Lonesome Dove it's a great mini series

The Untouchables..Keven Costner is clean shaven..a real Boy Scout because he plays real life treasury agent, Elliot Ness going after Al Capone..Sean Connery won Best Supporting Actor..In Tin Cup..he plays a golf pro down in Texas..with Rene’ Russo..I know someone recommended Wyatt Earp, but Tombstone is better with Kurt Russel..it is more authentic..not that I’m an expert, but I am from Kansas, and Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson were deputy marshals in Wichita and Dodge City, Kansas..before The Gunfight at the OK Corrall..
