Do not worry about the horse. All animals are natural born expert swimmers.
Great movie, I dont know if you ever heard of it (unknown how) because was the highest rated film ever to come out of Australia until dundee, is THE MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER.
The Lonesome Dove 4 part Miniseries T.V Movie is another great one to see when it comes to being an Ultimate Rollercoaster of Emotions during a long hard Journey.
Q: Is Alan Rickman the villain again?
A: Always
I use a desk top and am not on Telegram
One of the most underrated movies of the 20th Century. Legend has it that the clerk is still waiting for Quigley to show up to this day
Lol how is it underrated
I'm still waiting for the Quigley resurgence !
This movie is so Awesome
@@chand911Because it's seldom spoken of or reviewed.
@@tracy4290bc it's an average movie at best...
Alan Rickman famously said that it wasn't about him playing villains but playing interesting people.
Apparently, villains are interesting people.
@@taoist32 Only the well-written ones.
Any character that allows him to chew it up and make it epic. It certainly is a shame he never got to be a hero protagonist in a film of his own. I could see him in a sarcastic, grizzled character of repressed heroic nature, someone containing a bit of Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino.
@@williambryan3346 True. I do recall one his finest acting in Galaxy Quest where he wasn’t a villain.
Metatron, the voice of God! (From the movie “Dogma”).
I grew up watching this.
"I said I didn't have much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it."
Well, this time, he had a use for one. Lol
"This ain't Dodge City and you ain't Bill Hickock" 😊
One of my FAVORITE LINES.
Godly
I'm a logger. I still use that line all the time while talking about chainsaws. 😀
I love this movie. It is a bloody shame that there are no reactions to it on TH-cam but it is rather fitting that a girl from Australia is the first one to upload one. ♥️
Been a fan since release. As I expand my viewing history of reactors, it becomes apparent there is some hidden rabbit they chase and only in rare circumstances will they leave the safety of the 'circle of films' being watched by others and step up to the plate, returning to why we watch. Seeing the same movie reacted to by 10 others over a single week becomes tiresome.
Matthew Quigley Buffalo Rifle Match is held annually in Forsyth, Montana and is a black powder cartridge rifle target match. It has been held for 25 years
And because of this movie Sharps rifle reproductions started being made after the originals had stopped being made in 1881. Shiloh even makes a model called the 1874 Quigley that has the option to be chambered in 45/110 so it matches the movie
Been there many times. Off-hand shot of the bucket is tough, especially with the strong wind from the left. 600 yd Octagon is my best.
We have a few similar shoots here in Australia. Including a buffalo shoot at 1600 yards and a bucket shoot.
a fine rifle , I`ve owned several .45 70`s four trapdoor springfields , a sharps model 1847, and an 1885 winchester high wall ! all great rifles and very accurate !@@hackerx7329
"The Man from Snowy River" is another good Australian western. 👍💯
My wife was born in Australia and it's her favorite
Love love this movie!
YES! Do this one too!
If you haven’t already watched this movie your life is not complete.
My Dad was a die hard John Wayne fan, he loved Westerns. "The Man From Snowy River" was one of his favorites. The music score is awesome.
Quigley is a great Australian western. Good to see the treatment of the aboriginal people was addressed and not washed over. They are great people! Tom Selleck was great and Allen Rickman was awesome as the villain! The one movie I can say Rickman wasn't the villain but a hero is Galaxy Quest. That's a fun watch. Thanks for sharing MC🍒❤️💛
Bottleshock is a small quiet film with Rickman as a co-protagonist (dual stories unfolding side by side and colliding near the end).
I always loved Quigley's subtle flex at the end there when he name drops 'Bill Hickok' without adding the 'Wild' to it, implying Hickok was an associate. Marston let that slip right by him; he really should have thought it over!
I never noticed that. It’s interesting to think that Quigley might’ve known him.
@@robertwalker5794 Well he mentions being to Dodge City, and brushes off Marston when he mentions Hickok must've been there. I expect he might have a story but wasn't cordial enough to share yet.
Absolutely thrilled to see somebody reacting to such a great film. Story, soundtrack and acting are all fantastic.
YES LITERALLY!! So underrated, outstanding performances and I’ve got to say my favorite Tom Selleck films
Best line in the movie is Matthew Quigley tells the British major, " we already run the misfits out of our country, we sent them back to England".
Native Texan here... The first white settlers in Texas, which was part of Mexico at the time (1820's), called themselves "Texicans." "Texan" didn't emerge until later in the 19th Century.
Just wanna add that the name Texas comes from Tejas, which itself comes from "taysha" which is a word for "friend" in the local Caddo tribe.
That part of Mexico was already called "Tejas" before white men (not from Spain) came into the area.
@@TatankaTaylorno it wasn’t called Tejas until the White Spanish settlers came because Tejas is Spanish which didn’t exist in that area until the White Spaniards came
@@kevinprzy4539 You misread his comment.
@Saldivar Which tribe are you from?
@@TatankaTaylorThe accepted story that Texas comes from that meeting between Massanet and the Caddo in 1689 is unlikely because Garcia Ruiz says that's not the first time the Spanish used that word. We have documents that say in 1606, 83 years before that meeting, the Spaniards had already known the Indian Tejas, he says. One of those documents is a map used by Juan de Onate, Spanish conquistador who passed through Texas looking for Gran Quivira, the fabled city of gold. The early 17th century map shows an area called Tejas to the southeast of where Gran Quivira was supposed to be. To Garcia Ruiz, this earlier reference to the word "Tejas" invalidates the idea that the word originated with Massanet's encounter with the Caddo.
The world needs more Australian westerns and the world DEFINITELY needs more reactions to this gem!
Wait, so when you say 'Western' do you mean W. Australia or Western N. America? Or are we talking about 'westerns' in film, but shot in Sicily?
Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman in Australia or Reckless Kelly, or Five Mile Creek.
The man from snowy river is good
You need to watch "The Man from Snowy River" 1982, it was one of my favorite Australian westerns.
Speaking of Alan Rickman, you absolutely HAVE to add SENSE AND SENSIBILITY to the watchlist. He was so sweet and memorable in that film (and plays a good guy here).
Another good one is Truly, Madly, Deeply.
Also see him in Galaxy Quest.
With 3 others from the Harry Potter series.
@@DavidB-2268 Absolutely! One of my favorite movies. No one ever reacts to it :-(
And from the same year, Dogma is a must see.@@markman613
Quigley is more of an American western that takes place in Australia. It is one of the best movies made during the 90s, had a monumental musical score, and showcased an amazing depth in story telling through acting.
The Man from Snowy River is more along the lines of an actual Australian western. Also a great movie
Wow...almost nobody reacts to this movie...so happy to see Mary checking this out...I just hope she likes it a whole bunch. LOL
Laura (crazy Cora) played the best friend of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.
She was also the best friend in Saving Grace
She had a big part in the American sitcom "Just Shoot Me"
And Nadine in the original Steven King's 'The Stand".
She was also Leroy Gibbs' Psychiatrist on NCIS.
She also played another great crazy in The Stand miniseries.
Finally someone watching this. Now you need to do Open Range and Dances With Wolves.
Good suggestions!
I second Open Range! A great western, and a great movie.
"Broken trail" is another good Robert Duvall movie
It's a true story at that .. western classic
Definitely Open Range, great gunfight ending.
A very good movie, and under rated. You wouldn't hear a pure accent at this time, since convicts were still being shipped to Australia from all over the empire.
Tom Selleck was supposed to be the original Indianna Jones, but CBS TV Network in the US wouldn't let Tom time off to shoot the movie, as he was under contract for the TV Series Magnum P.I. in the late 70s early 80s.
Harrison Ford played it well enough that no one else can be considered. Some actors are born to play certain roles.
Tom Selleck was signed for Magnum, P.I. before he could be offered the role of Michael Knight in Knight Rider. The Knight Rider role went to David Hasselhoff.
Had nothing to do with the 70's.
And because of the writers' strike that year, Selleck actually _could_ have done both Raiders and Magnum if he had known.
Harrison improvised a lot of Indy's dialog ("It's not the years Honey. It's the milage.") He also created the best scene in Raiders shooting the sword guy. Harrison also picked that hat the Herbert Johnson an Australian Fedora. Indy would not have been the same at all. Ya Harrison was meant to be Indy and Tom was meant to be Magnum.@@taoist32
Thank God.
“Lonesome Dove” the way you pronounced that😂😂
That’s a miniseries that needs to be reacted to. Some claim it’s the best western ever.
Yep. Made for TV, but it was well done and had some very quality acting in it.
It's no claim...it is the best western of all time
Lonesome Dove is proly the biggest western series/ drama of the past 30 years!
This has to be one of my top Tom Selleck roles in an unconventional and underrated western.
My favorite Tom Selleck movie is Runaway.
The world needs more Aussie westerns. So glad you're reacting to this classic! For that matter, Mary, you should also check out the Snowy River movies!
One of my favorite movies. I think it just flies under the radar. I never even thought of it to request a reaction, but I totally love that you chose to do it. You might be a trailblazer with this one. We will see a wave of reactors following your lead (I hope).
Quigley's weapon was donated to the museum in the Bass Pro shop in Springfield Missouri. It is displayed prominently. The museum is free.
One of them was. I think Tom Selleck kept one of them too.
I literally burned out the VHS for this as a kid.
Rickman as a hero. Haven't you watched Galaxy Quest? And Ms Giacomo was a main character in the TV series "Just Shoot Me". Great show and good commentary; as always with you.
I remember seeing Laura San Giacomo in 'Pretty Woman' as Julia Roberts roommate.
My bad, true
A little-known film called Truly, Madly, Deeply stars Alan Rickman as the protagonist. It's a romance and I highly recommend it.
I was here to add that as a recommendation but you beat me to it by a couple of weeks :D
Farscape is one of my favorite scifi show. It was filmed in Australia. It had a slow and rough first season, but it slowly grew into one of my favorites.
Farscape was always on the verge of being cancelled. With Star Wars monopolizing all the FX and sound stages.
::holds up photos with Ben Browder, Claudia Black, and Gigi Edgley::: I met a LOT of people last year.
I loved Claudia Black back then so hot!
I watched this as a little kid and remember thinking “Oh, this crazy lady is so funny.” And then later not thinking it was so funny.
Laura San Giacomo had been in some other movies back in the day, and had a small but stand out part as the friend in "Pretty Woman", which brought her attention, and I'm kind of guessing that this was the biggest movie she had. I've always loved her in this. After this, she started in a sitcom for some years, called "Just Shoot Me". I don't know if she's done much in a while.
Tom Selleck was actually the first choice to play Indiana Jones, but he'd already committed to do a TV show, that he wasn't even sure was going to happen, but he decided to stick to his word, and turned Indiana Jones down, and the show ended up being "Magnum P.I.", which was a huge hit in the 80s, and made him very famous, and he was the super hunky guy that all the women were crazy about back then. Since then, he had done other movies, had a recurring role on "Friends" as Richard, which kind of revived his career, and he has a cop TV show now that's doing well, I think.
I have a random second hand story about him from the mid 90s. Some friends were driving down one of the curvy canyon roads here in California, on a rainy Halloween night, and their car slid off the road, and ran into the fence of someone's property. The owner of the house came out, and it was Tom Selleck. They were kind of freaked out, and very apologetic, but he was very cool about it, and just told them, "Eh. Don't worry about it. It happens all the time. It's fine." According to every story about Tom Selleck that I've ever heard, he's genuinely a very down to earth good guy!
Laura San Giacomo was great in The Stand as well.
This was the first film I saw Ben Mendelsohn in. Only later seeing him in the credits while looking at his work history did it click.
Yes! I've been waiting for you to react to Quigley! I don't know why other reactors have ignored this classic.
been requesting this for a while, just became her new sub because of it!
Quigley Down Under is a 5 Star film. I will die on that hill.
Kind of funny to realize both "Quigley" and "Crocodile Dundee" are both fish-out-of-water stories. In a way, Australia let us borrow Paul Hogan, in exchange we let them borrow Tom Selleck. It seemed to work out.
YES! Finally, been requesting this for ages! Love this film! It does make Aussies look like the villain and the American being the hero in their homeland, as an American, I still love this western! A unique concept! RIP Alan Rickman!
this is one of my Dad's favorite movies, and it holds a special place in my heart too
"Is Alan Rickman going to be the villain again?" But he was so *good* at it....
Really enjoyed his character in "Robin Hood" with Kevin Costner. Crazed and funny as hell!
You absolutely should watch Lonesome Dove. Dove, the bird.
thank you, lol.
Glad you reacted to this movie, a real underrated gem.
If you're looking for a good Alan Rickman movie where he's not a villain, you should check out a movie called Bottle Shock. It's not really a hero and villain movie. It's, loosely, about a British wine connoisseur, a bunch of California winemakers, and a French wine competition back in the 70s when French wine was pretty much the only wine thought of as being worth drinking. It's more focused than that, but those are the broad strokes. Alan Rickman, Chris Pine (Star Trek), Bill Pullman (Independency Day), and Eliza Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) are the most recognizable faces you'll see. Great movie with an excellent cast.
I spent a couple years in the outback of Australia, very beautiful country and the friendliest people I've ever met.
Yes! Team Quigley. Mary, here's the thing with Reactions. People tend to go for what's popular but SOMETIMES, sometimes stepping out of the box gets things going. Besides, we're badasses who do our own thang. 😎❤
If you still want to watch westerns. Highly recommend Dances With Wolves, Open Range, and the series Lonesome Dove, and The Man From Snowy River ( Australian Western)
I’m so happy someone is reacting to Quigley! I watched this movie so much growing up so it has a special place in my heart. Thank you for reacting to it!
I watched a lot growing up also. My father loves westerns and when he likes a movie he can watch it over and over. I grew to love them myself. Crossfire Trail is another Tom Selleck western I always liked.
Quigley is wielding an 1874 45/110 Shiloh Sharps rifle. Mighty fine buffalo rifle! And, you can reload it much faster than a .50 caliber Hawkins cap and ball rifle.
I believe there are a couple replicas that ar available
@@shawnmiller4781Shiloh still makes the Sharps rifle using the original molds. They made the one used in the movie. They cost a little more than three thousand dollars and it takes 30-36 months to get your order filled.
Shiloh Sharps
201 Centennial Dr
Big Timber, MT 59011
It's a fun movie. Glad to see your reaction to it, and happy you enjoyed it. I watched this movie so much growing up. Definitely one of the best Westerns and underrated.
F' yeah! Been waiting for this for a long time!
Quigley turning his horse around to take one last look at Cora was a touching moment. He obviously remembered what she had told him about Roy.
One of my favorite movies ever. I was 20 years old the year this came out and I knew I was going to love it within the first five minutes of the movie. The story, the cast, the characters, the musical score and the beauty of Australia. Australia was one of the places I would love to have gone to while in the Navy but, sadly, it never happened. I grew up watching Tom Selleck play the title character in the 80's TV series Magnum, P.I. As for Laura San Giacomo, I have seen her in the movie Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Aside from Cora, one of my favorite performances by Laura San Giacomo was in the role of Nadine Cross in the 1994 television miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand.
Little Big Man is a western worth watching.
Thanks for reacting to this.
Thank you.
When this first came out, I guessed that it was a sequel, similar to "The Rescuers Down Under." Eventually figured out that it was a stand-alone.
John Hill told me that he sold this script to the studios in 1975, but it took them until 1990 to actually make it.
Tom Selleck goes way back. He was the star of TV's "Magnum, P.I." from 1980-88. He had a choice of doing that or being Indiana Jones. Since then, he's done American Westerns, cop shows, miscellaneous dramas, even a few comedies.
Hard to think of Alan Rickman playing a hero character. But he's "decent" as Col. Brandon in the 1995 version of "Sense and Sensibility."
True! It was originally going to be a Steve McQueen project, but he passed away and it got shelved until the Australian movie boom in the late 80s.
One of my dream rifles that I will get someday is actually Quigley's custom sharps
Thank you for watching this movie. It such a great movie. When you truly find out what happened to Cora and Matthew realizing why she is the way she is he falls for her and she still loves him.
This has always been one of my favorite movies. Thanks for helping me see it again for the first time.
Laura was absolutely brilliant in this movie . The crowning moment of her career.
Seriously, is no one going to broach the subject that Mary Cherry and crazy Cora are almost identical twins?!?!?
If you enjoyed this, you should watch Dances With Wolves. Somewhat similar plot, and equally powerful.
“If he’s encircled by a bunch of dingos…good luck!”
That phrase in your accent is hilarious for some reason. I loved this movie growing up.
A Cry in the Dark (1988) is the movie where americans learned about the dingo story. Meryl Streep played Lindy.
You blurred out Quigley's rifle??? Why even review the movie?
I have to agree to your comment, why review this movie if you're gonna blur the weapon
That's her safe method of around TH-cam rules to keep her videos monetized and not age restricted. Probably overkill, but that's her choice.
Blurred out an antique single-shot rifle but not the revolvers.
Paint Your Wagon, a western musical with Clint Eastwood that every woman who watches it loves it. I so don't want to spoil the story.
It's definitely a more gritty watch, but you should watch The Proposition (2005), another underrated Aussie western.
Another is The Tracker (2002).
The Proposition was written by the musician Nick Cave and stars Guy Pearce, Ray Winstone, and Emily Watson. It's well worth a watch.
This is an excellent film that unfortunately as flown under most people’s radar.
Quigley down under without showing the rifle? Ok I don't get it, I see guns on youtube all the time.
Can i just say i really love your vibe and smile. Just the best 🔥 ❤
Agree.
Thank you for reacting ti QDU. It is a gem of the 90s that has never gotten the respect it deserves. You are the first person I have seen react to this movie. Well done.
This is one of my favourite westerns.
Tom Selleck starred in several westerns. The Sacketts (1979), The Shadow Riders (1982), Quigley Down Under (1990), Last Stand at Saber River (1997), Crossfire Trail (2001), Monte Walsh (2003). He stars in the tv show Blue Bloods.
I love this movie. It's legit an underrated western.
Finally, Finally, FINALLY! Someone's watching one of my favorite westerns from down under (probably only). And it happens to be from one of my favorite TH-camrs from down under, Mary Cherry. Thank you for watching this. Now you have to watch this 1985 Western called Silverado. You will recognize a large amount of the cast in this one. It's another one of my favorites.
Another great Australian western is The Man from Snowy River.
Mary dropping the Dad Jokes. Can it possibly get any better than that? (was funny as hell girl you had me laughing like crazy) Well done. 😁
This is one of my top 5 westerns, and I'm so happy you decided to react to this.
Finally someone reacting to one of my all time favorite movies! It's such a hidden gem.
"The Man from Snowy River" will always hold the top spot in my heart for any Australian movie ('Mad Max' take your just-deserved 2nd place, but that's not really a 'Western').
THIS movie, however? As an American, I ADORE EET! (And Tom Selleck tickles many fancies, too!)
:-)
1983. "The Thorn Birds". TV mini series based on a book by Colleen McCullough. Set in Australia. Stars two Australian actors, Rachel Ward and Bryan Brown. Very good watch. I read the book and watched the mini series.
It's been such a long time since I've seen this movie, great to see it was appreciated.
SHE FINALLY DID IT HALLELUJAH!😁🙏
My father would rent movies for us as kids, we had to rent the vcr player and everything. We had a family movie and when my mother and sister went to bed, dad and me would watch a war movie, James bond, or a western. This was one of them and he always enjoyed it. Thanks for reminding me of that memory.
I've watched this movie probably 15 to 20 times, thank you for reacting to it.
I will also say, there’s a billion movies out there and most TH-camrs all react to the same and most common movies. I’d say 70-80 of the best films ever made still haven’t even been reacted to by anyone at all.
Mary with such a steady flow of top notch commentary. Said a lot (not a criticism) but it only added to the experience. I always like her excitement when a film takes place in Australia.
I'm so glad that you got to this one, one of my favorite movies!
This is one of my dad's favorite movies. His favorite line is towards the end "I said I never had much use for one. Never said I didn't know how to use it."
I watch this movie every time I see it come up! My all-time favorite movie!
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Tom Selleck has said that it is the role that he is most proud of doing. Thanks!!
One of my favorite movies! I visited Freemantle and Perth in my younger days while in the Navy. I got to go duck hunting in the outback. Australia is a beautiful place.
An Australian movie for ANZAC Day (April 25):
"The Lighthorsemen" (1987) true story about the Australian Light Horse Regiment in 1918. Australian production w/ Australian actors
And the same director, Simon Wincer.
And the same director, Simon Wincer.
😮 classic! Love when you dive in to these movies that other people aren't doing. This one, My Girl, love it... Labyrinth should be on your list.
This is one of my favorite westerns. I was just about to shut down my computer when I saw that you had just reacted to it. I'm one of the people that has pushed for someone to react to it. I'm glad that you are the 1st. It's snowing here. I was going to go to the post office but now I'm going to watch your reaction. I hope that you like this movie as much as I do. I can mail my mortgage payment later.
Lonesome Dove....one of the greatest mini series of all time ... I am sure the book is great also...but you need to watch Lonesome Dove... Tommy Lee Jones, Robert DuVal, Diane Lane, Danny Glover, and tons of other incredible actors...worth the many hours...
Mary, I have to say that your reaction videos are some of my favorites. Even when I watch compilation videos, you are the first to react, like you get the joke a second before everyone else and I absolutely love it. Keep up the great work!!
Lonesome Dove is the greatest television mini series of all time. Alan Rickman was a good guy in Galaxy Quest and Dogma. Another great Tom Selleck film is Three Men and a Baby. Loved this reaction to an underrated film
one of my favorite movies. Cora is so well written.
I suggested that you react to this! How awesome! Thank you!
Pleasure listening to your Aussie accent. I'm Dutch (The Netherlands) and your accent sounds very pleasant to me
YYYYAAAAAYYYYY THANK YOU for watching this movie, you dont know how happy this makes me, one of my favorite movies!!!
He also directed my favorite western of all time - Lonesome Dove. With the guy who did the music also. ❤
A shame youtube had to blurr the rifle everytime. It's such a beautiful piece of work!
