  • A team of researchers from the University of Oxford needs your help with Meter, an easy-to-use survey which aims to improve our electricity use. All you need to do is download the JoyMeter app and record your activities during the day. It is that simple.

By studying just one day’s data from thousands of UK households, the research team will be able to see how we can make better use of renewables and spread the load during peak times to be more energy efficient.
With social distancing keeping so many people at home, it is hoped there will be a big response to the call, providing the research team with key data - and a unique look inside the lockdown.
Dr Phil Grunewald, Deputy Director of Energy Research at the Environmental Change Institute, University of Oxford, says:
‘By taking part in this survey you can help our understanding of energy usage. Right now, with so many people in lockdown, we need more electricity at home, while national demand is at a record low. This is a unique opportunity to understand trends in energy usage and how they could change towards a net-zero carbon future.’
Dr Grunewald adds: ‘It is easy to do and you could win a year’s worth of free electricity.’
