Mine too. She is the rarest of interpreters of the role to truly understand Violetta. Domingo is my favourite Alfredo too.

@@xxsaruman82xx87 I love Bergonzi in general. And Villazon too as Alfredo. But Domingo sings w Cotrubas & Carlos Kleiber conducts a thrilling score. Bergonzi was not, as I recall, so fortunately surrounded.
@@mckavitt13 He was - he had Caballe! True, Pretre on the podium is an annoyance, but Sherrill Milnes is as good on the earlier recording as he his on the later recording for Kleiber. Bergonzi also recorded it with Sutherland and Merrill, under John Pritchard, though Sutherland is not to my taste.
I saw Cotrubas in the "Callas" staging of this opera at the Lyric in Chicago and she was spectacular.

Luceafarul so you can criticize Ileana cotrubas? She was an incredible Traviata. Probably the best in the 70s. Anyone who knows Opera understands that her breath control was not the best. But What a beautiful voice a beautiful top voice it was so pure not Steely at all at the top like all the other Sopranos. If you want perfection you're on the wrong planet my friend. Arnold Amaral I don’t know about just the 70s, I do know June Anderson is better at it than she does. Cotrubas does have a gorgeous voice few can deny that, but after listening to all the greats, her obvious laborsome breaths just got to me. Shows you having a great voice isn’t everything. In fact, Maria callas is just the opposite, ugly voice, absolutely fantastic bel canto legato techniques.
Arnold Amaral projection all the way. Sounds like you only care about how good one’s voice sounds. Very shallow understanding of singing I have to say . But listen to whatever you like, nobody is stopping you.
And please actually learn other singers’ name if you are going to discuss them. Shows you don’t actually listen to a variety of opera singers and want to learn something. Because you don’t actually care about opera, you are just a fanboy.

Arnold Amaral then stop defending Cotrubas when that was my point from the beginning-after listening to all the greats, her laborsome breaths eventually got to me. Callas does not have this issue, Moffo does not have this issue, Anderson DEFINITELY does not have this issue. Fleming, while I don’t like her interpretation at all, does not have this issue, I can go on and on.
As for just voice, Barbara Bonney has just as of an angelic voice AND not having this issue. Just listening to her et incarnatus est vs Cotrubas’, there is simply no comparison. Bonney’ legatos are smooth like water, and you can’t hear a single breath in there, whereas Cotrubas only benefited from having a nice voice and stronger projection, she kept taking breaths in between, breaking up phrases, legatos are nowhere near as smooth as bonney’s, and both were studio recordings so you can’t argue she was exhausted from having to act on stage.
Honestly after listening to her la Traviata so many times I literally hyperventilated listening to her gasping for breaths.
