This is a brilliant video. This is the sort of training you only get from a master engineer. I only received basic oftec training so tip and tricks like this are so valuable. Thank you again
@@JohnJKelly-of4dc a capacitor yes, and a fan with a puller. However I found pullers to be hit and miss, plus its good to know ways without special tools.
Thanks for the lovely comment and we try our hardest to inform you about a subject as much as we can. As for Oftec training. My first training centre showed me nothing on how to check things like capacitors etc. My second training centre (EOGB) were fantastic and taught people lots. I have done my Oftec at EOGB 3 times now and if you can get there then i advise you go next time. Have a good week. Thanks to the others that also replied to this also. Great stuff!
Oftec has created more harm than good in the industry. Any idiot can turn up with no heating or electric background and nobody fails oftec. Then they are added to a list of recommended techs after several days of training. I had to do 5 years plus nights then all the boiler manufacturers courses and g3 etc over the years. Sadly those days are gone and short course cowboys are everywhere.
Ive never had an issue removing the smaller bearing from the old Electro Oils which were very common here in N.Ireland twenty years ago. Ive always used heat and a puller though. Great content.
Granted bearings are a cheaper option for the customer, but when it comes to the Ecoflam minor 1 burner, I change the motor! They are such a swine to take apart, it’s far quicker to replace the motor! On the rare occasions where I changed bearings (on a Nuway ZL2D burner). I use a motorcycle sprocket extractor, fits nicely without damaging the rotor assembly! In general I will only change the bearings when there is a lengthy delay in getting a replacement motor. Have a great weekend! Best wishes from Scotland, Ruaridh, Boiler Services Forfar.
40 years and I am completely blown away with the differences between the UK and the states... We don't repair/rebuild motors,The Riello burner you are taking apart first is common here but I've never seen the others on the bench and we use 110-120 volts here commonly, we have 220-230 volts but on two legs not one... Love your content thanks for the education....
Brillant content. This is what we to see. Can you do a spacific video on all the control boxes. Like the r9 satronic siemens etc. Digital and analogue. I would say this video and a control box video will be your top videos because other people have not made them already. Please keep making them.
Nice one Rob, one of the best. I’m finding that on the newer RDB motors the studs are snapping. I think they are using a different type of thread lock. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to make these. Have a great weekend, stay safe 👍
I've one old orange inter left, on a early Heatslave got to be 40+ years old............. I use a windscreen wiper puller from machine mart for stubborn bearings, going to steal your slotted screwdriver idea, better than the tool fashioned from a bit of 6mm bundy tube that I currently use.
Thanks for the comment and glad you can steal the screwdriver idea. I cut the end off the screwdriver and used a 1mm cutting disc in my angle grinder to make the slot! Have a good week!
Interesting and good to see the AC Induction Motors being given a new lease of life rather than going for scrap. AC Induction motors have a "Rotor" and "Stator" and it is best not to stand disassembled stator on end when in bits to avoid damaging the windings or their insulation. And as you suggest a new capacitor is always a good idea to maintain correct operation. Question re home oil heating, do you get many calls when it is below zero with water frozen in the oil pipelines from the tank freezes causing boiler lockout? Back in the 70's when I used to work on oil boilers they were mainly operating on 200 sec heating oil which had to be kept heated to stop it turning into treacle.
Hi. We only get frozen pipes from water in tanks which obvious needs dealing with to avoid it hence always good to dip tanks for water.Thats is on 28 sec Kero but Gas oil 35sec Can wax if the oil suppliers forget to put antiwax in or the customer has the summer version in their tank. If it waxs it is just a waiting game till it turns back agin. I have seen oil tanks full of wax before, It is weird! Have a good week!
Great video Rob, I was just wondering on the R40 burner, all the power goes through the control box if it was removed, it would be impossible to get 50 V on pin seven
Thanks for the comment and we are aware of the issue, Just need to work out how to edit it online🤣 What i was suppose to do is drop pin 7 wire out and drop through hole in the base plate and then liven up and test. 240 only goes in and straight out to motor then 50v powers up control box to allow it to work. Well done for spotting it and have a good weekend!
Thanks Rob. Love your videos! Can you give a link to where you get your large flat gray trays you use for servicing? Think it’s a great idea but can’t seem to find the ones you use. Thanks in advance.
I asked for a video on motors and bearings and you made one!!! Thankyou very much Rob, yet again I've learnt something from one of your videos. I've kept the last RDB motor I removed so I will have a go at home replacing the bearings. So am i right in saying - if the motor is noisy or seized, and on taking apart the windings aren't blackened or armature damaged, you should be able to just replace the bearings and be good to go? Thankyou again for the great videos
Yes mate exactly that. Just make sure the wires have not gone hard either . Once you have done a couple you will be up and running. Let us know how you get on. I get my bearings from a company called polar bearings? They are local to me. If you screen shot the number i showed and google it or take to any bearing shop they will match them. Glad it helped you and thanks for watching.!
Brilliant video Rob, always very educational. What would be the worse case scenario if you parted a motor but didn’t mark where the three parts line up? You need to invest in a tripod also……we miss the juicy parts we’re here to see!
Hi. Yes i have a tripod but it is rubbish! so will invest in a new one as i agree i need one !! The reason i mainly mark the motor is because if you get it say 90 degrees out when you put it back on the burner body sometimes they dont line up i.e the wiring plug is in the wrong place etc .Thanks for the comment!
Rob when you say 50v from the motor on pin 7 and then test it is wasn't 50v. Twice you test it and twice you show 0.050v. Not the 50v you speek about. Should it have been 50v? I like the content and this was a great video. Im nervous to replace the bearings and this shows how simple it really is. Thank you for passing down years of expertise. 😊
Hi Mate. Def 50v. Just my silly meter on auto made not just AC only which i should have done. If you turn a R40 control box over it show 50v on pin 7.. Hope this helps.
Great video. Not only good for the customers wallet but also the environment. We should be repairing more.
Thanks for the comment. I totally agree.

Did you not learn how to check a capacitor with oftec training?

Thanks for the comment and yes Ecoflam can be a fiddle sometimes! I love the fact you in scotland to!! Have a good week mate.

Thanks for the comment , Thats really interesting how different you guys work to us!. Have a good week.
Brilliant video as usual Rob. Alway love the bloopers at the end 😂
Thank you for the comment. There are many bloopers also. Have a great weekend!
Great video mate. Your vids have so much vital info that come from a time served engineer which is absolute gold.
Thanks mate. Lovely comment. Have a good week!
Very comprehensive. Took lots of notes. Good tips & Tricks.Thank you. Hope you managed to get an Easter break.
Thanks for the comment. Not to much work stuff to do at Easter thank goodness. Just good old DIY at home! Have a good weekend

Hi Stuart. I am having some snap to. Thats because they want to just sell us new motors!! Have a good week.Stay safe.
Great video
Thanks very much. Keep up the good work.

Hi Rob a brillant knowledgeable video thanks for effort on this.
Thanks for the lovely comment. We try our hardest to get as much detail in as we can!.
Have a good week.

Hi. It is from screwfix and the number is 395HJ. They are pretty expensive but i find them pretty bullet proof! Hope this helps
Perfect thanks!

Also where do you buy your bearings from?
I've seen HWOS sell them (where i get a lot of spares from) but they are non oil resistant...

Very informative video
You're right, it's pretty good stuff
Thanks for the lovely comment. Hope it help you!. Have a good week!

Been on the lookout for a carpenter fan puller for riello 's for years missed the only one on Ebay i have seen...gutted.
Thanks for the comment and yes that is frustrating! Hope you get one soon!

Would ye consider changing the intro music... just a suggestion
I find it too loud…..blame aunty Karen!!
To be honest i like it but we will chop things around as the channel grows. Thanks for the comment .
Bloody aunty Karen!
