Dr. Combs, your face is so brilliant and full of the most welcoming sunshine, a light that truly reflects from those who "really, really" love enlightening other's to understand this Gospel that is the path to eternity. Dr. Hank and Dr. John chose a great guest today. They carry this same brilliance.I truly enjoy this Gospel and I want to carry this light.I REALLY ENJOYED THIS EPISODE!

Dr Combs was my favorite teacher I ever had at BYU. I took his Book of Mormon class back in my early semesters, and not only was his class fascinating, but as the years went by, he remembered me and whenever he saw me he’d stop ask how I was doing. Including my last year there. Great professor and just a good man for sure, wonderful to learn from him again!

This was absolutely terrific! Isaiah has come to life in a way I have never experienced before. I appreciate so much how you all framed Isaiah's prophecy to King Ahaz with the historical background, then went on to explain in detail how the prophecy applied to their day, then to the time of Christ, and then to our modern (latter) day. Thank you all for the effort and for your insights. I will be digesting this podcast all week, and probably longer. Please do invite Dr. Combs again.

This was wonderful! Dr. Combs did such a wonderful job of helping us to understand Isaiah by walking us through it and teaching in a very clear way as he did. Thank you so much for this wonderful episode.

WOW! My brain is about to explode.
So much knowledge to process in 2 hours, 1 week or even an entire year of study doesn't seem sufficient. Isaiah is so full, and we're only 12 chapters in.
Thank you so much for ALL your podcasts. Not only can we use them in our current Come Follow Me studies, but can refer back to them whenever needed.
I also like the hints for finding scriptures. (Isaiah and 2nd Nephi are 10 chapters apart, Isaiah 2, 3, 4 is 2nd Nephi 12, 13, 14 etc.)

Yay! I stayed awake through both parts... BUT...I will listen again just to help get that teaching ingrained in my mind and heart! Thank you for a great lesson! I loved your guests testimony at the end! Sincere and uplifting! God bless each of you and this program!

Just completed my second listen through parts 1 and 2. Excellent including the wonderful pieces you Hank and John add into the discussion. Love your format so supportive of your guests. Also love Hank the way you always shepherd us gently back to the parts not covered yet in the text so we know we won’t be missing anything . Thank you for your always appropriate respect for the material - even when humor is present. Always made intensely uncomfortable by those who think a lot of laughing ( or silliness) equates to good teaching. Thank goodness the Savior’s priceless teachings never smack of Sat Night Live or stand up comic vibes. I appreciate very much this obvious respect and love for the materials we are studying!

This discussion is beyond marvelous. Thank you all, especially Dr. Combs (any relation to Dr. Combs that I had for an education class back in 1971?) The knowledge and insights and spirit and testimony presented here are such a blessing.

Why wouldn't the child who knows the difference between right and wrong in Isaiah 7:16 simply be Shearjashub? That would be a more of a parallel to the child who will be able to say father and mother (Mahershalalhashbaz) in Isaiah 8. Both of Isaiah's children are used as symbols for what the Lord is going to do (see Isaiah 9:18). Before Shearjashub turns 8 and Mahershalalhashbaz turns 3 (able to talk) the kings of Israel and Syria will be out of the way. Another question I hope you can clarify is, Why did Nephi choose to include this in the Book of Mormon (2 Nephi 17-19)? Was he trying to make a parallel between the Nephites (with the Kingdom of Judah) and how they should not be trying to make confederacies with the other peoples already in the New World (kindgom of Assyria) because the Nephites might be afraid of the Lamanites (kingdom of Israel) and their apparent confederacies with others already existing in the New World (kingdom of Syria)?

Is there a difference in the meaning between the spelling of Immanuel in Isaiah 7:14 and Emmanuel in Matthew 1:23?

I think we missed the opportunity to point out that there was no contemporaneous fulfillment of lambs laying down with lions as further evidence that Isaiah was trying to point us to the Messiah.

I studied that scripture in Isaiah 7, It seemed to me that it was out of place and that it really belonged some place else in the scriptures. It seemed like it was an extract from another set of scriptures.

Members of all tribes (according to their patriarchal blessings) represented in a meeting she spoke in. She wasn't preaching about "lost" tribes. My recollection of her recounting the story is that it at a missionary conference.
