I had to pause at HOLY ENVY because it has been a big deal to me recently. I am so envious that we don’t have the tradition of call and response, specifically ‘ “God is good…all the time and All the time, God is Good!” I learned that our fantastic Black brothers and sisters were raised with this in their faith traditions and one sister told me it was such a natural instinct to her…like breathing. How AWESOMEis that and how wonderful to have that as a daily, hourly or constant mantra!

We also said "Here am I send me." I love it Brother Bytheway! We were "following him" since the pre mortal life.

The echoing relevance of Isaiah's prophesies are similarly reflective of the revelation in our patriarchal blessing. The words of our patriarchal blessings can be fulfilled on one particular day and yet those same words can find further fulfillment at a later day, but in a much different way. This is one reason we read them over and over.

I love Isaiah ❤️ I tried to explain why, and realized I am selective... I went through and highlighted every passage that tells how much the Lord loves me (and probably you 😝)
Then I wrote all those passages out ... both sides of regular notebook paper... It's very uplifting ❤
I hope to really learn about Isaiah in the next 5 weeks. 😇

Isaiah speaks to modern times by W. Cleon Skousen is a great addition to books to study and read. It took him 14 years to compile this text. It is a verse by verse commentary that Bro. Skousen researched from the words and writings from prophets and apostles including the Book of Mormon.

20.56 we went and visited a friend today and a cattle auction that happens in our town every Wednesday... Cows are huge and reminded me of the 12 ox that bare the font on their backs in the temple. When we got to our friends little homestead the sheep on seeing the car pull up came running... Oh that I was as eager on hearing my master's approach... It was lovely to see.

I had a thought while you were discussing Is. 6:9-10 and 3rd Nephi 11...the first time Israel didn't understand was in the Old Testament. The 2nd time they didn't understand was in the New Testament, but their (Israel/Judah) understanding will come in the 3rd try...when Jesus comes again. Every knee shall bow. All will understand who Jesus is and what His work is.

Awesome podcast!! I think another reason why Isaiah gets stuck in our heads as scripture we can’t understand is bc as a child, we read things so literally that it seemed impossible to understand. “What? Angels put hot coal on his tongue?? Why??” So from the beginning as children we have this already set feeling of being intimidated and confused by the scripture. As adults, we understand more, but I think as parents, we have a responsibility to teach our kids that this is an amazing book of scripture and something to get excited about, versus prepping them by saying “now you probably won’t understand this, but that’s ok.” Of Course automatically our kids are either going to tune it out, or automatically think that they are not going to understand it. I am guilty of this! Thankfully my children are young enough that I think I can reverse this ha ha! Just some thing that I thought of while listening to this podcast. Thanks for all you do!

The book of Isaiah says more about the coming of the Messiah and the redemptive works of Jesus Christ than any other book in the Old testament. It tells so much about our savior who is the creator, who created the heavens and the earth, and there is only one God, Isaiah 44:6 I am the first and the last!! No other Gods before Him or after Him. Isaiah 45:14 Surely, God is in you, And there is no other, there is no OTHER GOD. Isaiah 51:6 But My salvation will be forever,, from generation to generation. And My righteousness will not be abolished. Yes, these truths are from God, these are Gods words and the scriptures in the bible never lie, they are not the words of men!

I don't think parallelism is simply the repeating of a previous idea. A very simple parallelism is verily verily... Veritas ... Means really so something verily is really important... But something verily verily is something really really important and the second verily point is to focus and heighten the importance of the principal being emphasized by the prophet.... Also each of Isaiah's parallelisms ... Is that a word? Not only focus but change the way of saying the word or phrase. I love to compare and contrast the phrases or words to learn the why and the what being emphasized. Just me having a ponder.

Couldn't Isaiah 6:6-7 also refer to the Atonement of Jesus Christ as the coal from the altar of God taketh away the iniquities purged all sin.?

    Brothers Smith and Bytheway,
I enjoy the podcast enormously. I really enjoy the various guests that add their thoughts and experiences to the conversation.
As we study Isaiah I keep remembering it is in Isaiah that he confuses me with regard to the Lord/LORD/LORD. Each of these seems to have a peculiar ownership that is sometimes confusing or misleading.
I also recognize that Isaiah’s use of the names of God are more frequent than in any other books of the canon.
There is LORD, all caps with the L being larger than the other letters.
    This is illustrated by:
43:13, Thy God, Holy one of Israel, thy Savior
49:14: Forsaken, LORD hath forgotten me
43:11: I am the LORD, Savior
43:15 I am the LORD, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King
43:17: ..Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation
12;2: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song…my salvation
48:7 LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One…the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.
These versus speak as if it the Savior, Jesus Christ, both pre and mortal existence.
On the other hand there are versus that are spelled lower case following the upper case L.
    Illustrated by:
    22:5 Lord GOD of hosts
28:16 Lord GOD, Behold I lay in Zion…
    3:15,17,18, Lord
29:13 Lord, quoting the Savior’s words to Joseph Smith, the prophet.
50:4,5,9 the Lord GOD. Then in 10 fear the LORD, trust in LORD and stay upon his God. There seems to be two persons here.
Then there are those versus that use both spellings
3:17 the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of ion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts.
    37:18 LORD,
    37:24 Lord
52:3 LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought, and ye shall be redeemed without money., 4, thus saith the Lord GOD
    61:1 Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings to the meek;
Then, finally, there is the use of LORD
29:10 For the LORD hath poured….
I don’t Isaiah made a willy nilly mistake in the use of the name of the Lord/LORD. I think each use of the name of God, the Lord or even his own father that it meant something or someone. It appears to me that the use of Lord GOD is meant to be the Father, that LORD is meant to be the Savior, Jesus Christ. I’m not sure that the use of LORD should mean or the direction of use.
Therefore, I’m asking while were studying Isaiah that you shed some light or at least some ideas on the various uses of the different spelling and use
