    Hi, a great way to remove air from Ziploc bags (we called it this name in France haha) it's great to put them in water, with food inside, this removes the air with water pressure :) then you can close them

      SUPER TIP, thank you for posting. We can surely use the idea here in the Philippines.

    5:47 Thank you. This makes total sense. Make the kits and keep rotating out the food every 2 years to keep them fresh.
    I was looking to buy the prepackaged MRE's but the cost seemed so high. *You gave me some great ideas on how to make my own kits*

    Now this is a useful idea! The only think that bothers me is the expiration time. I’d like to think they would last at least 10 years, with the exception of the apple sauce. That’s the only issue I have with this. Other than that, I will be doing this, vacuum sealing it, then putting it into a Mylar bag!! The puppy at the end is precious!!!!!

    • @AlaskaGranny
      @AlaskaGranny  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it would be nice if they lasted many years, but sealing them should help a lot!

    My sister in law was in the military in Germany. They got rations from the government once a year. The mres were from w,w,2. They were still good.

    • @AlaskaGranny
      @AlaskaGranny  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, military MRE's can last for years, but are designed to last maybe 7 if stored cool and dry.

      If they were from WWII they were canned. That is different than retort and it is very unlikely they were from WWII. Maybe the cold war.

      Nope. MREs were NOT around in WW2. Had not been developed yet. C Rat, K Rats etc.

    Well, Sammy got the "last word" on this video, for sure. Here in the Philippines, we have to build our kits with the limited selection available. Filipinos do not usually reach for convince items. Spam from the USA is a top favorite here. One time, several years ago, our local supermarket had single slice packs of spam. When they went out of stock in a few days, we never saw then again. We do have a great selection of instant noodles both in flat packs and in plastic single serve cups that you just add hot water to. A small can of white chicken meat or a single serve can of tuna adds some protein. We splurge with small jars of natural peanut butter(NO hydrogenated oils) and a ten pack (or larger) of good quality crackers for snacks. We must stay on top of things for rotation. You have to work with what you can get, not always what you wish for

    • @AlaskaGranny
      @AlaskaGranny  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your food choices are great. Always choose foods you can find, and are willing to eat. I have seen single serve packages of meats, and the selection is becoming limited.

    Freeze drying is different than dehydrating.. Some mre companies advertise 25 yr shelf life, hope so coz I have mre's from Food 4 Patriots since 2008

    • @AlaskaGranny
      @AlaskaGranny  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you are making your own, decide how much food you want to eat in a day. Add up to be sure you have enough calories. You can then use your homemade MRE as you choose, to eat by yourself or share if you need to.

    I wanna know how they cook the stuff in the factory for MREs. How do you learn the science for that? I see people throwing stuff in a bag to make an MRE, but I wanna know how to actually make the meals that go in an MRE.

    • @AlaskaGranny
      @AlaskaGranny  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The top MRE suppliers are
      Aviation Marine, Pipersville, PA
      Major Surplus & Survival, Gardena, CA
      Perhaps you can contact them. It might be fun if you live near one of them to get a job there for a few weeks, and learn all about it.

    I want to reiterate what she said about not wasting your mres. It gets expensive to make mres every year or two so u might as well eat the ones going bad and make new ones from the saved money.
