This reminds me of something I did before retiring ... I would put all shelf-stable ingredients including spices for week night dinners in baskets marked with labels Dinner #1, 2, 3 etc. and lined them up on the pantry shelves. I would just have to grab the basket, head to the fridge to grab the protein and head to the prep area/stove and start cooking. It's amazing how much time it saved after working all day! Kimmy, thx for all your great ideas!

Week by prepping meals/snacks & picnics. We brew coffee and tea's at home. We filter our own well water. and reUse our glass bottles. We paid our home off in 1/2 the time.

I just started doing this. I look at my recipe and put any dry or canned ingredients in a brown paper bag with the meal name on the outside. Then I measure out the spices into baggies - any spices that go in the recipe at the same time go in the same baggie. Any noodles or rice get measured out into baggies as well. It's amazing how much time (and energy) pre-measuring items and gathering them up can save. I'll frequently make two of the same meal kit at the same time, since the ingredients are already out. We eat much better when I have some of these on hand for low energy days.

Brooke from Southern Frugal Momma did a similar video about a month ago if anyone needs even more ideas. She also added the tip of putting the expiration date of whichever item will expire first on the outside of the bag as a sort of guide to what to use first in your rotation. Thanks for this video! So many good ideas.

My dad always ate random stuff. He was a single guy most of his life after 20 yrs married to my mom. He had a few girlfriends but towards the end he just settled for being by himself was easier. I am married but he had me as he put it. He turned 82 on the 2nd of Aug. And a day does not go by that I think of him. He passed shortly after he turned 75. Anyway, the point is these kits would be great for an elderly widow etc. My mom would enjoy these kits but she is in a nursing home with dementia. 😔😢

What I love most about this post, (aside from your calming, endearing vibe), is that when the power goes out, or sudden weather events, etc. make a family need to scramble out of the house for safety, you can just grab that tote, throw it in the trunk and go (plus a suitcase and toiletries). It would take significant time to think of, and pull out of the pantry, all the various ingredients for several meals during a chaotic, stressful rush to get out, and with no lights to flip on to see what you're doing..

Another good one is a cake mix and a can of soda. You don't need any egg, oil or water for the mix. You literally just mix the can of soda into the mix and bake. And the cool thing is, you can mix all sorts of flavors of sodas and cake to create a new flavor.

I tried that with our daughter a few years ago. That cake was very sweet and had a weird texture. It was ok for a quick cake but you would really need a cake craving to eat it. We tried it a few times with different cake mies and sodas. It was still a bit rough to consume. Great concept though

I've also made a fruit cobbler with canned apples or peaches in baking dish topped with packets of instant cinnamon oatmeal mixed with butter & brown sugar then baked. These both are good.

WOW! I am going to go back and watch again with a pen and paper! So many good ideas. I have made up some spaghetti kits. Sauce (either bought or home canned), home canned Italian sausage or ground beef (optional), small can of mushrooms (optional), spaghetti. I also included a couple of bottles of water to cook the pasta. The second kit is a pizza kit. It has a packet of pizza dough, bottle of water, jar of pizza sauce, small can of mushrooms, jar of home canned Italian sausage/ground beef, shelf stable pepperoni, jar of cheese dip. If I had any dehydrated onions, bell peppers and tomatoes, I would add those. I'm working on a chicken noodle soup kit.

Here in Missouri, they government is paying you to go solar by giving you a stipend to cover the cost of the loan of the solar panels. And then the rest of the loan you pay for solar is less than a monthly electric bill. Not trying to sell you anything, but it's definitely something to check out!

I love this idea. I am working on making a menu of meals we really eat and making sure I have those items. We are well stocked, however, I am noticing that I don't have what I need for all our favorite meals. I make "meal kits" with leftovers in the freezer. I just did that last night. I save everything so one cooked hamburger and a little bit of green beans is now in a ziplock marked as "lunch" and what's in it. "Lunch" means one person, dinner is two or three. It's only my husband and I so that works for us. I love the meals you came up with! Thank you.

This is a great idea! Clearly I need to catch up on my Kimmy!
Rather than waste all those expensive ziplock bags,I’m going to reuse some of the single use plastic bags I keep getting from the store when I constantly forget my reusable bags.
Thanks Kimmy! You’re the best ❤️❤️

Kimmy!!!!! This video of recession food kits or emergency kits were AMAZING!!!!! I am saving as well as going to try them so I know what my family likes and doesn't like before I pack away for that time. We bought some 25 year meal kits and some look good but I'm on the fence about flavor. I know all these won't have that long of shelf life but it would work in a pinch. Awesome girl!! Can't wait for you to cook them for us so we see them done. Thank you Kim!!

You did such a good job for this. My family is a family of 8 who goes cross country camping in a tent. Next summer we are going for 6 weeks. I use just a camping stove and 2 pots or a car crockpot for lunches. I had about ten meals, but you gave me so many more.

I run a karma box pantry and maybe if I put some of these ideas in bags ready to go, some of the items I have will move faster so they don't expire. You truly are amazing. Thank you.
Plus it's just great to have these ideas for dinner when you don't know what to have

When I open dehydrated/freeze dried long time storage containers, I immediately put the contents in a ziplock storage bag and try to remove as much air as possible. I also add food grade, reusable desiccants to the ziplock bag. It helps extend the shelf life.

Great idea for family is need, like someone else said. I canned homemade sloppy Joe sauce today, you could do that as well with some canned or dehydrated beef, and make your bread or even use the muffin mix. And a Mexican corn bread, with beef, corn and cheese and your Mexican seasoned. So many wonderful ideas. You are fantastic Kim. God bless

The chicken casserole is just tuna casserole made with chicken. I make it all the time. We call it slop. Mac and cheese with mushroom soup. Add in meat of choice hamburger chicken tuna are most common. Sometimes mushrooms and/or tomatoes and veggies with spices to round it out. I grew up eating like that.

Add tuna to the green bean casserole and it's a complete meal. I make a double batch of green bean casserole and add 2 cans of tuna (and cheese). My husband and 4 teenage sons love it! We also do a lot of mac and cheese based dinners (Mac and cheese, meat, veggie). Ramon noodles and powdered cheese with give you a alfredo variation. Our favorite was to add summer squashes to it
