  • We got on our bikes and decided to look for a place in Vienna where we can swim for free. After about an hour of pedaling, we arrived in a newly built part of Vienna called Seestadt.
This neighborhood is connected to metro line number 2, which can be quickly reached from the city. An artificial lake has been built near the metro station where you can refresh yourself on hot summer days. A real small town is built around the lake, which will have 25,000 inhabitants when finished.
The whole project is really well thought out and half of it is already finished. There you can find several very good restaurants, shops, several schools, many dormitories, a bank... You have everything you need for life.
There is a large park next to the lake itself, which is used for sunbathing, and several pebble beaches have been built. We visited it on Sunday at the end of the seventh month and the lake was quite full.
However, we found a small entrance to the lake that was not so crowded and where we could swim in peace.
After the beach in Seestadt, we set off along the Danube. The Danube is of course the biggest swimming spot in Vienna. When you pedal along the Donau Insel, every few steps you can see people swimming and sunbathing. We decided to stop at the New Donau beach, where we bought ice cream and decided to release the drone. After that, we headed by bike along the Danube, first on the north side until Pirates Cove, where we found a real sandy beach... in the middle of Vienna. That was really cool.
The next beach we visited was Romawiese. Free city beach located on the Alte Donau. Although it was quite full, we managed to find a small space for ourselves and bathe in peace. The water was warm and relatively clean. Right next to this beach there is also a large city beach with many facilities, but unfortunately the entrance is charged.
We ran into this beach quite by chance on the way to Seestadt. We saw a lot of people who came to refresh themselves there and decided to see what it looks like from the air. In the end, we didn't decide to swim there.
