VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
In part 2 of this pen and ink drawing tutorial we will apply the 3 tips we learned before on drawing the fur of a cat. This is a challenging topic for many so I want to take my time working through it. In this video I focus on applying the 3 concepts to an common subject. These are things to look and think about based on your observation that will help to give you the confidence, foundation, and guidance you need. These tips can be applied to a wide variety of subjects and media, so its all a matter of how you choose to apply them.

I really appreciate your philosophy of drawing! Specifically your comment about not using a grid and filling it in "why cheat yourself on learning observation" (roughly paraphrased) . Since watching your tutorials I'm finding that my observation skills are not only improving, but becoming a part of my daily routine; while driving yesterday I noticed a particularly beautiful tree and imagined how I would draw it.
This is really huge for me!
Thanks 🙏
i agree with you hes great artist
I draw my friend's cats all the time ☺ After you do it enough times, what was once and incoherent mess of fur becomes easier to interpret and see and you start to find the kinds of strokes that work for black cats vs orange or white, fluffy vs short. It can be frustrating at first, anatomy really helps to demystify the bizarre shapes cats can make.
Yup
I FINALLY ordered your books. Thank you, Alphonso for sharing your skills in such an easy to follow way. I have learned so much and am looking forward to getting your books.
Thanks so much
Teaching key skills in observation... You're top class, mate
Thanks much 🙏
Some times, i think you know what you're doing its for life. Not just a sketch or a tutorial. Mean: your concepts are amazing.
I love my books. I have improved already after finishing just one chapter!
The cluster lines made a nice piece of art by themselves
That was sooo helpful, can't wait to see the next video of the series.
Thanks, Alphonso 👍👍👍
🙂
Hell yeah. Addicted to these videos.
You are truly a master
Got your books today.So happy!
Yayyyyy I hope you will find it super helpful
This channel still rocks!!
🙂🙏
thats true
Beautiful cat..✌️
🙂
This is a great vid! I love the idea of clusters. Shapes and Clusters - I am going to practice these! Thanks, A.
Very welcome : )
Hi Alphonso,
I love your videos so much that I am overwhelmed by their sheer numbers. I use your and Proko’s videos to study art myself.
I just found your channel. I thought that would be just another art channel but the way you understand art and explain it is so clear and insightful. Subbed indeed. Keep the good work.
Thank you so much!
I just found your videos today.
Love your style of teaching and will continue to watch!👍
Thank you 🙂
Thank you . Much love and Respect
Very welcome
Hey I am stuying this book to scientic illustration. Great Work Man
I am a thirteen year old artist . You helped :)
Yayyy
thank for posting i learned a lot dunn
🙂
Your videos are so incredibly informative ! I am learning so much , thankyou
Glad they help
This was really needed lol, thanks
🙂
gracias por compartir excelente esplicacion
Thank you
Will there be a part 3 for the shading and how to vary the strokes for the fur? I absolutely love this series!
This video was a great help, thanks. Just before this video I was honestly about to go "cheat" and just wing it because fur looked too intricate and difficult to learn. Nope, it clicked right away. Nice point at the end too, I haven't really been using my observation skills very much, I'll try that.
Good video, shows well how to actually apply the stuff you showed in the last. Been playing around with sketching our animals a bit (live on a farm, several kinds of models to choose from). Do like to take reference photo's; not all of them sit still long enough for life drawing 😁
Lol so true
Another excellent instructional video!
You are a master at reducing challenging concepts to manageable and logical steps that are easy to grasp and practice! I've been working on drawing animals for some time, including my cat, unfortunately, I have yet to achieve a level I feel good about. Your tuition makes progress achievable, with practice, that is!
I bet your kids love the way you explain things when teaching! A teacher every kid will remember for the rest of their lives.
Thanks so much 🙏
Great video and explanation. Next time I attempt to draw a cat or other furry critter I will bear your tips in mind. Have to work through your book.
🙂🙏
That was extremely helpful. .-.
I was in the middle of watching one of your videos about perspective, when this came out XD
edit: rephrased
Lol
Cool
well done, i'am watching this video with my 10 years old niece and she is truly fascinated , say something to her mr. dunn please that will encourage her in the future she's very talented thanks
Awww thats amazing! Dont give up! Keep practicing and draw what you love and what makes you happy! And if you ever need help or have a question just ask! 🙂
thanks a lot, me and my niece really apreciate it and she just told me she likes your drawings , good luck Mr.Dunn with your channel
thanks , cool like usual . so we are waiting shadows :)
Yup
great viddy as always
Thanks
Very very interesting... we can learn easy this way.
I hope so
Thanks for all you do.... I would deeply appreciate it if you can do a tutorial on perspective using the box form (without the use of vanishing points). Thanks
👍 you got it
Inspiration
🙂
Your tutorials are great, and Ive been following you for a long time now. But I do think that keeping a reference image in the corner during the whole process would be better, so we can follow along the whole thing.
👍
Hi Alphonso! I love your videos, saw this video in my notifications while practicing in your workbook.
Could you do a video on negative space? I find myself overshading when I render something or draw from imagination, and have to constantly deepen my shadows, but I’m not sure how to convey light or areas of highlight while maintaining texture or showing different areas of the form. I will look at a drawing of someone better than me and see that they used a few spare lines and it tricks the eye into “okay this is just an area of light” but I’m not sure how to pull that off myself. Any tips are welcome!
Thanks again for your guidance
Love your tutorials, I find this to be a very tricky subject I still have trouble as I love drawing animals. I find fur and feathers a bit of a pain, so thanks for the videos
Glad it helps if even a little
wow, you're awesome, thanks! 🐱
🙂🙏
I love ur videos ❤❤❤❤
Thanks
I luv ur vids
🙂 thanks so much
Amazing video
🙂🙏
Hi Alphonso, would you have the time to critique and give me quick pointers on any of my drawing video? I know you are very busy but never hurts to ask. Thanks!!!
Sure send me a message in FB. Once I have time I will
@@alphonsodunn Got it, thanks Alphonso.
Hello, Mr. Dunn,
I was wondering how you would go about drawing more complex creatures like octopus and other cephalopods or various multitudes of legs on insects such as a centipede.
Thanks!
I think that you are better than master Kim Jung GI even he can draws without any reference I think you are the best because you know what you draw 👍👍👍👍👍
Nice 😊👌
🙂
Hello, big fan of the channel. I even bought the books and by the way, do you think you can link some exercises or add them later to the book? Like, here are the lines t practice and then a drawing where you apply those kinds of lines. Just an idea. Often I find myself wanting to draw but I never know what to draw.
Hmmm not sure I understand
@@alphonsodunn sorry, english is not my native language.
I meant, do you have any advice for when someone doesn't know what to draw? I do come up with some ideas from time to time but they are all way above my level so I don't know what I can draw to practice.
Will there be a part 3 coming up soon? I really like the first 2 parts.
Yes
@@alphonsodunn waiting for a part 3 :)
2:04 was poetry 😍
🙂
Thank you so much for share your knowledge!!! I'm your big fan! Please, I can't found the next video 3/3. Are you already published?
Will there be a part 3?
But how do you add the whiskers?
Can you use mechanical pencil for the majority of your drawings
Is there a part three?
Can you do black jaugars
Hmmm🤔
could you show us how you completed the drawing?
Of course
Ok where is part 3 pls.
Learn to see is soooo difficult! Can you see the flow? Can you see the rhythm? Can you see the clusters?... I'm trying!, I'm trying.... 10 sketchbooks later. I'm still trying ....
Don’t stop. One day the lights will come one
🙂
I just draw a grass like shape
😮
CATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Yayyy
