This tutorial provides simple pen and ink drawing tips and techniques on how to create the illusion of depth in your drawings. Very well explained. Wish any drawing teacher had put it this clearly. Like you say its all stuff you kinda know but when you always put it in practice your works reflect it and it frees you up to imagine greater..

I wanted to say thanks for your clear demonstration. I drew the initial image, and now I am adding to it. I have an other cliff on the right side of the image, with a valley below full of rectangular rocks that have fallen off these cliffs. Thanks again.
Wow! I just applied these concepts to a drawing of one of my houseplants and realized a misconception I've had for years. I thought if something was in the background it should be darker than the foreground but I was just creating contrast in the background that was flattening everything out. Not sure where I got that idea but now I see the difference. Thanks! you rock...

1-3 and 6 were pretty obvious, but 4 and 5 kind of blew my mind. I mean I knew all of them subconsciously, but I never really stopped and really thought about it. Thank you for this!
I loved this because I learned that you don't always have to go for the most detailed drawings, because I saw you take scribbles and put some more of those tips into it and you mad the artwork look so good!

I'm an artist as well and Pen and Ink is my favorite medium to do and your videos are just great,, because you actually break it down very thorough,, which is refreshing...because half the tutorials on here are Timelaspe and no voice or sound which to me is stupid because if anyone wants to learn anything you have to pause at the precise moment,, I've learned some great little tidbits and also have brushed up on some of my skills

We did have art lessons in school and also did drawings and watercolour paintings in class. But I can not remember our teacher having explained things so clearly and simple as you do. I think with those few simple observations/tricks taught in school many more people would keep doing art as grown-ups. Many people stop to do art very early because they are convinced the results are not good enough. And in many schools art is not taken as seriously as math or languages. Shame, really. I do love science and especially physics, but this is only half of me. The other half is nature, art, philosophy, animals... Art is what makes us human, isn't it?
Although I knew most of the hints you gave here I really enjoyed the clearly structured, understandable and "optical" lesson.
Very helpful and impressive. Rushing hatching and cross hatching -- Oh, yes, I definitely have that problem! So impressive the way you turned a few lines into rocks -- and made me believe they were rocks. Of the many excellent skills you have there is one that feel compelled to comment on -- how carefully you choose your words and how precisely you speak and convey your ideas. I appreciate that so much.

Wow sir.....Even after all of these tutorials, I still can't get over how well you make your rocks/boulders look OFFICIAL. It's as if you can feel the jagged sharpness of the edges, and the weight of the rock itself.
You should turn your tutorials into a sitcom; you're like a Mystical Drawing GOD.
