    Another great guide, Affinity Designer is a great piece of software. Not only is it cheaper, but Adobe has changed their policies concerning designs uploaded their cloud that is not very friendly to designers. It is good to see some competitors and guides on these softwares. Cheers!

      I completely agree with you! I used to rely on Adobe Illustrator for creating patterns, but the monthly subscription costs were adding up quickly-especially since making patterns really only requires the most basic features of such a powerful program.
      When I saw Affinity Designer on sale, I decided to give it a try, and I’ve been so impressed! The one-time fee is such a relief, and I actually prefer it over Illustrator for pattern design.
      That said, one feature Affinity currently lacks is the ability to trace an image and convert it into a vector. For that, I’ve started using Inkscape, which is a free program. While it’s not as advanced as Illustrator’s image trace tool, it gets the job done for my needs.
      I’m hopeful that Affinity will eventually add this functionality-it would make the software even better!

    This is exactly I was looking for. Adobe needed a plug in to individualize the stitch holes which the owner of the laser cutter didn’t have. Affinity is my go to software personally. I didn’t even consider the holes needing to be balanced! Next time I get access to the laser cutter I can have my files premade in software I own. Thank you so much! Subscribed!

    I understand you balanced the spacing of the holes, but it is manipluating hole spacing to create the balance. The only way to have precise spacing is to have a stiching path in length that is a multiple of the hole spacing. How close or far off has it been to the desired stitch spacing? For cutting holes with a laser, long as it looks good, not a problem, with stiching irons close may not work. I have been using Fusion360 and doing everything mathmatically, pain to do. This software and the price looks intriguing, thanks

    • @baronleathercraft
      @baronleathercraft  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, absolutely. As you said, it works because it is subtle. It does get tricky when you have to create holes on a bag and then match the holes to a gusset. When I do this, I use a different but similar technique without using the balance option. I cut the stitch line into parts and then mirror them to the other side. Your concept of using mathematics is definitely the most precise option. I’ve done this using multiples of 4mm because I prefer that type of stitching iron. I started using the method in this video based on similar findings. It is easier and saves time. I often find myself spending hours behind the computer because I’m too lazy to cut and thong on my own. The laser is so precise as well. :)

    Is there a way to have french pricking holes? i.e slanted slits instead of circle stitching holes. Thanks really appreciate the tutorial.

    • @baronleathercraft
      @baronleathercraft  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Creating French pricking holes (slanted slits instead of circular stitching holes) is a bit challenging in Affinity Designer. Unfortunately, Affinity doesn’t have a robust ‘shape to path’ feature that allows you to seamlessly transform a stitch line into custom-shaped objects like slanted slits.
      If this is a critical part of your design process, tools like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape offer much better functionality for aligning shapes along a path. Another great option is LightBurn. While LightBurn is primarily designed for laser work, it has a ‘shape to path’ feature that works surprisingly well. You can create the pricking hole shape in LightBurn, set it to a path, and it will even rotate the shapes correctly around corners.
      I haven’t specifically tested it with French pricking slits, but LightBurn should handle it effectively. Give it a try and let me know how it works for you!

    Is there a way to create a stitch line on a straight edge that matches with a stitch line of a circle? Like the bottom of a cup. I am finding so many patterns online where they line up perfectly but I don't know what math is necessary to make the spacing line up correctly in my designs. I currently use punches with 5mm spacing, if that helps.

    • @baronleathercraft
      @baronleathercraft  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have only created one circle bag and I understand the trouble you are running into. I do not have enough experience in your issue but I did run into a chart at one point that did share the math for your situation but I am not able to find it again. With that said, I did ask Chat GPT but when I copy and paste the answer in this comment section it is not able to copy the math symbols to make it readable. I asked " what would the formula be to create a stitch line on a straight edge that matches with a stitch line of a circle? " It gave a very complete answer. It could not hurt to try ChatGPT. I use it all the time. Very helpful. I wish I was more helpful in this situation. Sorry. :)

    your stroke width is in mm, i can't seem to convert into mm even when i go to document set-up , also as soon as i type in (.35mm )like you did it convert to 1pt... instead of .35mm

    • @baronleathercraft
      @baronleathercraft  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      when you type in mm it will convert to pt but it will put the pt that represent the amount of mm you type in. It converts it but the measurements is what you typed in. But what will help you I think is, if you have rulers on, look at where the rulers intersect on the top corner the tool bar. It will show what measurement type you are set to. Right click on that and you will be able to choose what measurements you want to use. Let me know if that works for you.

    how can we print pattern?

    • @baronleathercraft
      @baronleathercraft  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I assume you mean to print it out on paper since I mostly use a laser engraver. To print it out on paper it is best to create the pattern on a 8 1/2 x 11 canvas so it will fit on a single sheet of paper. Make sure you print a full size, in other words don't scale your image to fit on the paper. If the pattern is larger then a 8 1/2 x 11 I save it as a .PDF file and then there is a way to create multiple pages that can be stitched together. Here is a great video that can help guide you. Plus you can find other videos on the same topic. I hope this helps! th-cam.com/video/qf_UVm4NdIU/w-d-xo.html

    I'm not using lightburn. How can I manipulate the pockets so the stitching holes stay with the pockets when duplicated and moved ? When trying to select just the pocket and holes in Affinity, it won't allow me to just grab the stitching holes like you do in Lightburn - it only allows me to grab the entire line across the whole wallet

    • @baronleathercraft
      @baronleathercraft  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lets assume that you have everything selected, pockets and holes. If they are not grouped. If everything selected hold down shift and then click on the object that you do not want to be selected. It should release that object. So if you have all the holes and the pockets selected, hold shift down and click on the pocket to release it and then drag, it should not drag the pocket with it. Let me know how it goes.

    • @Shoresupply
      @Shoresupply หลายเดือนก่อน

      the stitch lines won't separate no matter what I try...so I can easily drag the pocket by itself once duplicated, but I have to select the entire stitch line around the wallet or the pocket is just duplicated without the stitching holes. I even tried converting the stitching holes to curves hoping it would allow. It's super easy in Light burn to ungroup and select whatever stitch holes you want. I'm not sure that's possible in Affinity

    • @Shoresupply
      @Shoresupply หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@baronleathercraft 27.44 in this video - you've got each pocket separated including the stitching holes, which all you needed to do was select the section, duplicate and it's done. That's what I am trying to do in Affinity and not sure how to do it since the holes won't allow to be separated

    • @baronleathercraft
      @baronleathercraft  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Shoresupply when you say the stitch line won't separate, do you mean they won't become individual holes or it will not separate from the pocket. I just trying to understand so I can help. what happens if you go to Layer, Geometry. divide with the stitching hole layer after converting to curves on the stitching line. can you manipulate it better at that point?

    • @baronleathercraft
      @baronleathercraft  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Shoresupply ah, yes you can separate them in affinity. take the stitching layer and go to layer and then to "convert to curves" then return to the layer section and go to geometry and then divide, and they will become separate holes. let me know if this helps.
