Pakistans economy was doing really well in the 80s despite the war in Afghanistan and the one between Iran and Iraq but the regional instability specially Afghanistan eventually got to us and the result is in front of you. As they say the fire in your backyard will eventually get to your house.

I'm from India and i will tell you this. Finland Sweden and Norway's combined Population = Just 1 City, Karachi's Population. So they have So Much Land Resources, Trees, Water for their people which is why they are able to sustain that welfare model.
Pakistan's population is 50 times mores than these countries. So your expectations are unreal Mr. Hamid Mir.
Interesting podcast. Wish it was longer than 40 minutes.
Hamid Mir is wrong in his assessment. China is rich, Philippines, Cambodia and Laos are in the same region are not. So also Mongolia. US is rich but Mexico is not. Botswana is rich but Zimbabwe is not. I can give you innumerable examples of neighboring countries being rich or poor simultaneously. Maybe Hamidji is unable to digest the fact that Indian economy is growing and has overtaken Britain but Pakistan is in shambles economically. So he is looking for irrational reasons to justify it however his contention is not borne by facts on the ground.

Scandinavian countries have lot of fossil fuel , they have benefitted largely from things which are not possible for the Indian Subcontinent.
They are now moral and great but weren't always so , read thier History and even present and you'll see it's not all as it seems.

Region will only thrives if we understands the dynamics of South Asia we have to study the potential of Indus Valley being in strategic location is a market / Retail economy for the trader from historically fro Bharat Persia and Chinese. Pakistan have to develop infrastructure to facilitate trading activities to strive the glory

Mirsahab jo logic laga rahe hai at 6:30 - that works when you have normal relations with your neighbors - not when your relationship oscillates between adversarial conflict and war. Pakistan must clean up its own house because it has nothing to offer its neighbors that the neighbors desperately need or haven't found an alternative for.
Scandinavian countries in terms of equal rights have totally collapsed due to the societal gap between women and men and there are tons of research, for more ease you can see Dr. Jorden Peterson's Arguments on this issue.

If it costs 5k, then atleast 40k comission for different people. Then, only 01 manhole cover in the street of Pakistan will be placed. In government offices ACs are repaired and replaced all the time ghostly, ghost stationary bought for some lakhs for each govt. Office, ghost workers in hundreds are working nobody knows where their paycheck is going, I can go on and on. These are only small level corruption. Pakistan has a lot of agriculture, a lot of minerals, materials, landmass to work on. But, we pakistani/indian people (not all) do small corruption all the time.. So how can we expect someone to do something for us?

He was no one at that time. It was Ambedkar who said that Muslims should not be part of India. Savarkar didnt force subcontinent Muslims to vote for partition.
Even now many Indian Muslims call themselves Turks, Arabs, Mughals etc. Savarkar did have any power at that time. Very good way of throwing responsibilities on someone.

I always like Hamid Mir and his conversation. But it's dishonesty when you only talk positivity and positive attitude. It's equally important to talk about negative things and negativity and how does that impact on positive growth and positive attitude.

I don’t buy his regional growth argument.
Look at the comparisons among Central America north and South America.
Well India middle class growth is outstanding.
Our country will not flourish until and unless army personnel stays back at their barracks and deals only with security problems.
